The 35mm version manages something a lot of watch designs forget about these days, that they can be masculine AND elegant at the same time. Elegance in this industry seems to be something that is falling by the wayside, and it's good to see a watch that shows us it can still be done!
Well, if everyone "screams", can you do much except for screaming to be heard? Feels like everything is going this way, big logos and extreme colors. I appreciate elegant watches too, but they soon might be history :/ Just look at G-shocks and all the watches that celebrities own.
Tissot are releasing a blingy gold bezel version with diamonds towards the end of this year. 2023 will see the remaining dial colours on their way to an A.D. near you. Check out Teddy Baldessare's most recent video where he visits the head office of Tissot and speaks with the CEO about some of their soon to be released offerings.
I got the gold tone 35mm and it’s the perfect size for my wrist, along with a rad, ostentatious, retro vibe that I can’t get enough of 😁 I wear it non-stop. The 40 was a bit too big for my smaller wrist. Something about the way the case kind of extends beyond the lug to lug because of the integrated bracelet design, I’d guess. Felt like a dinner plate on the wrist for me. The 35 is perfection.
Yes, I’m waiting to get that as well. My wrist size is 16cm and I reckon the 35 will look similar to what the 40 looks on Jody’s wrist, which is on the sportier side of the spectrum that I prefer
In high school, I had a Swatch Albatros GX700. I recently bought a new old stock replacement for nostalgia's sake. The 34mm case felt SO SMALL at first! I struggled to remind myself it didn't feel unusually small back in 1988. Once it's on for a few hours, it feels fine, and it's opened me up to smaller watches. VERY tempted by this 35mm PRX; I think I'd buy it before the 40.
I think 34mm, 38mm and 40 for the Chrono would have been perfect. The forty has lug to lug of 51mm which is pretty big for an average wrist. I own the 40 with a 6.8 in wrist and its a bit big
This is a really good review and comparison. Both the 40 and 35 looks great on wrist. Keep in mind that we have been getting accustomed to wear bigger watches for many years now. Watches were smaller back in the days, and in my opinion the 35mm is of correct size.
I bought the 35mm with green dial just on a month ago Jody. Stunning watch & like yourself I have plenty of smaller (30+mm) sized watches & this just sits right on my 17.5cm wrist. 👍🏻
I purchased both the 35 and 40mm (in green) and the 40 was a bit clumsy on my 175mm wrist so I returned it. Happy after a month with the retro-vibing quartz 35mm and love the way it tucks under my cuff. No interest in the automatic. 37.5mm with a waffle dial would be tempting though and I wouldnt mind slightly fatter indices.
The 35mm is so much better looking it's not even a fair competition. Major props to Tissot for this 35mm, finally someone is listening to true watch enthusiasts.
I have the 35mm with the green dial. I absolutely love it. I had the 40mm and just found it touch to big. It fits a dream and I feel it wears a little bigger than 35mm 😊
@@bambambaby5289 Hi I find it adapts to the light really well. In the sunshine it isn’t to bright. I would certainly try and get to see one in the flesh and you will understand what it mean 😊
I thought out of the gate I would strongly prefer the 35mm, but it looks jarringly small on your wrist in the video. Based on your comparison, I'm favoring the 40mm at this point, although I'd love a slightly smaller 38 or 37.5mm too. Definitely need to try them on in person.
I think the smaller watch looked better in his shots. The 40 covers the entire top of his wrist but the 35 is a hair small. I'd rather have a smaller retro styled watch than a large one - it's more retro. My 40mm PRX fits my 7.25 inch wrist but only just. If my wrist were to shrink anymore I would downsize to the 35.
Great video, as per usual Jody! Personally, i think the 40mm suits you better. Also, might I suggest doing more of these size comparison vids? For example, with the Cartier Santos Models - Medium vs Large vs ADLC (the ADLC is the same size as the large, but because it's dark, it wears significantly smaller). Thanks!!
The 35mm looks bang on on your wrist. I would wait for the Powermatic version of the 35, but having already placed an order on the Maen Manhattan 37, I don't think that a prx would fill another spot in my collection.
My situation exactly. Heading away for Christmas and no sign of the Maen Manhattan after many months, so dipped into the gold 35mm prx this week when offered a discount. Worn it for one day and absolutely love it! Maen will have to be impressive when it eventually comes to not be returned.
Damn, no refund for me then! 😅 Heading to australia for Christmas/my wedding and was hoping it would arrive in time, but at least I have the prx to (loosely) cover that 70s inspired design blueprint.
Always loved these. Sounds a bit like Goldilocks, a 38 would have been just right (like the Seiko 5). Ps tried on the 40mm but wasn't happy with the fit on 6.5/"
35 mm is very clean looking. And the 40mm seems slightly too large in comparison. The 35mm fit does remind me of the Casio A159 which I own and love. Clean and elegant are perfect words.
Just not my wheelhouse, in any dimension. I used to have a thing for the Oris Aquis, but the integrated put me right off over time. I'm glad it makes others happy, though!
I think these quartz model make a great his/hers set. Very few watches anymore have a mens/womens in the some color scheme and design. I may just do this for my wife and I to celebrate our first child due this fall!
I bought the 40mm version almost as soon as it was released. It seemed too big for me. Having worn it for a year however, the 35mm now feels comically small to me.
As Jody mentioned, you always gotta give yourself a bit of time to settle into the smaller case. After wearing a 42mm dive watch I felt like my 36mm Rolex was tiny. After a couple weeks my opinion flipped. The 36mm looked better on wrist and the 42mm felt comically large. Jump forward 3 years and now I wear each watch and think little of case diameter. Thickness is still where I get hung up on watches. Not a fan of metal cases exceeding 13mm thickness.
I'd understand if you played catch and released with both. I feel the integrated design needs the dial to not dominate too much or as much of the space on the wrist as we're used too with say our divers etc. The 35 is a fraction on the small side but I can see how the sub 6.5in wrist club are making it work well. Bring on the 37.5mm!
Love that retro quartz crisis colour variant. In terms of wrist size this watch is meant for: isn't the 35 mm version even marketed as a lady's watch by Tissot? Doesn't mean I'd have reservations wearing this, I actually don't care.
Fab review, Jody. I have smallish wrists, so the 40 was always going to be touch-and-go. Yesterday I visited my local jeweller and tried both the 40 and 35 on. The clear winner was the emerald green 35mm. Stunning wee watch, but I will need to wait for a few more $$$ to find their way into my 'special' fund. The dial is a little smaller than I would like, but overall the 35 wears larger due to the integrated bracelet. For you the choice is not so clear cut, good luck deciding (my money's on the 35!)
Just bought an Alpha 36mm explorer and loving it!Also have a 7 in wrist and have some vintage dress watches at 33-34 mm,have also a Seiko Arnie and two Panerais at 47mm.It's a matter of personal taste.Always enjoy your videos
This helps me out so much!!! I have a 7.5 inch wrist but like smaller watches. Was debating between the 2 but knowing that the 35 wont even fit my wrist makes the decision even easier 😅. Thank you!!!!!
My vintage Hamilton Field watch is about the size of a Quarter .25 cent piece. I love it . Lots of vintage watches are small they fit nice under shirt cuff are are often gold.
Definitely keep that 35! Looks smart and slick on your wrist (and most people's wrists from what I've seen). I love the 35mm size, a real shame that they decided to abandon the brushed dial! I would have ABSOLUTELY picked up the silver/rose gold with brushed dial had they offered it... But either way, this is one of my favorite looking watches on market right now. I think watches trending towards offering 34-37mm sizes now is great, after trying out a lot of different sized watches, I've come to love that sweet spot, there's something comfy and elegant about that size range, I get to see the head and more of the bracelet, it just looks balanced.
Just bought the silver 40mm today. The 35mm fits my 6.5/6.75 wrist perfectly but the sunburst makes the watch not that legible at first glance, so I went with the 40mm because the silver brushing is really really nice. Not a fan of the size that much though hehe
@@cezzarmicu i absolutely HATE how Tissot didn't put the brush on the 35.. I don't understand that at all. The original watch from the 70s only had brushed dials, the blue was absolutely gorgeous!
The 35 looks a lot better on your wrist, Jody, which is essentially the same size as mine. We are not dockworkers, which comes with other drawbacks … but not when it involves elegant watches. And regarding quartz, it doesn’t bother me at all. This watch hearkens back to the Lord Quartz and Silver Wave from Seiko’s back catalog. (Okay the King Quartz too, but I don’t have one of those … yet.) Nice video.
If I had to choose between these two it would be the 35mm. What I would actually like is an auto without the horrible waffle dial in 36 or 38mm, probably not getting one though. Plenty other fish in the sea.
I have a very small wrist and I just bought the 40mm in green dial, doesn't really look so big on my wrist I think it depends on your style :) I am loving the watch every minute
Everybody seems to be saying that the 35mm version of the PRX is better. I can agree with that. But what about the gold metal strap version of the Tissot Everytime watch ? ? It is available in 34mm and in 40mm. My wrist is 6" even.
The coulourway and proportions of the 35mm remind me of my grandfather's 36mm Seiko from 1980. I love it but too dainty a size to wear for more than 12 hours. Plus legibility and the ability to read at a glance is more important as I get older and my eyes more 'tired'. 2 weeks ago I chose a blue Melbourne Burnley over a blue Tissot PRX and I can't be happier. The PRX design is solid but the Burnley has so many subtle design flourishes to seduce the eye upon inspection.
Really appreciate a size comparison video like this! Especially because I also have a 7in wrist. You’re the best. Think I might be bolder than usual and get the gold 40.
Interesting how they are the same…yet totally different watches. The 40mm looks like a Royal Oak-esque modern flashy watch, whereas the 35mm looks like a proper vintage watch. Completely different impression on-wrist, surprisingly hard to compare
I personally think the 40mm looks better on your wrist. The 35mm one is beautiful, but it just looks too small on your wrist. I myself wear smaller watches all the time on my 7 inches wrist (datejust 36mm)-- but I would rather go for a 38mm instead of the 35mm. Sad that 38mm PRX does not exist-- it would have been perfect.
I have the 40mm Powermatic blue dial, love it, love the size. I tried the 35mm today, it looks great but even on my not so big wrist (under 7inch) it's just too small. Still a great move to bring back the original size, as always it's a great value for money from Tissot.
I've only owned one cereal bowl watch and it went in the trash yesterday. If this is a "ladies"size I guess it's for those with hairy arms and dress hiking boots. Having several antique and vintage pocket /wrist watches, all small,I'm happy with 35mm. My grandmother's watch was a mechanical about 15mm.
Deffo buying the green 40 auto, but I already have a vintage Lorus thats almost identical to the 35ml Tissot right down to the hands and indicies. As a seven inch wrist 35 does wear small on me, I put up with vintage being small but I prefer the 40 for sure.
I have a 6.75 inch wrist, and the 35mm fits fantastic. I went for the pale blue dial. I agree, that it does look small to begin with, my other watches are around the 39-40 mm range, but as Jody said, after a few days wear to acclimatise you begin to appreciate it more. Also, I received a cracking deal from my A.D. £45 discount off a £295 retail price so walked out the door for £250! At that price it was too good to refuse 🙂.
Ohhh look a watch reviewer that actually buys watches that there interested in wearing 👍So many just review crap that they beg for free , thanks for being a watch guy Jody
Jody, by my eyes from this video, the 40 mm definitely looks better on your wrist. But you are the one that needs to wear it obviously! BTW, I just purchased the 40 mm Powermatic in the new Green color dial and love it ( I have a 7 1/4 inch wrist).
I already have the larger PRX automatic blue dial and have no issues on my 7" spindle. I do however like the idea of a smaller 36 being a tad more discreet and of course lighter. I have a couple of 36mm watches so this downscale (or original scale if you look to the original release) is one that I'll take a look at and yes it'll probably be the quartz version. I still want to try the chrono 42mm when I have the time. I guess I just love this style of watch.
I agree. The current 'Fad' for PRX incurs a premium price. I faced the choice of a blue Tissot PRX for $950 nz plus versus a blue Melbourne Burnley for $450 NZ 2 weeks ago. I bought the Burnley and was pleasantly surprised how superior in quality it was. Give it a year and the PRX prices will ease because Tissot produced so many.
Brought home the 40mm green Powermatic a few weeks ago. Wife said she wants one, so I guess the 35 may be the answer for her! Great vid and thanks for sharing!
I have 6 1/4 wrists and for dress/casual watches I won't go above 38mm, though my favorite watch is 36mm. Though for a work watch, where it's function over fashion, I'd be alright with a bigger watch. But for everyday wear? Heck no. Though I must add, my 38mm watch is 44mm lug to lug, and that's the measurement that matters marginally more than the case diameter. I'd still go with the more elegant 35mm, but I wouldn't be against this watch in 40mm.
I ordered mine on April 30th and received it today.(ice blue dial) I powered it up and waited 30 minutes put it on my timegrapher and was amazed to find that it was - 20 seconds with a beat error of 2.4 ms in multiple positions. And I noticed that it is not able to be regulated. Literature I have read tells me that it was supposed to be "laser" regulated at the factory... I don't know what kind of laser they use but somebody screwed up
THANK YOU for doing this comparison --I was wondering when someone would! Now, I am torn between the two sizes and agree that somewhere around 38mm would be the Goldilocks (perfect) size.
If 35mm is too small for you, and 40,5 too big... consider the Batavi Architect. It's beautiful, available in multiple colors and around the same price.
Tissot needs to release a 38mm version in gold with a white dial, I'd buy one instantly. The 40mm feels a little too large and the 35mm is too small on my 7.25" wrist.
My last 2 watches were 39mm and 38mm diameter. And, I like them. But, with a 7 7/8” wrist, I’m afraid this 35mm just wont work. I have always liked Tissot watched. But the PRX’s just aren’t for me. Enjoy the new watch. That 35mm looks good on your wrist. As always…nice video.
I'm fine with a 36 Datejust so this 35 may be good for me too. I just have to try it. But I already have the 40mm. As one gets older, wrists get smaller. So smaller watches are good. But eyes get blurrier so smaller watches are bad. :P
You want to wear it as a diver, I get it, but its not a diver. It's a dress watch and 35mm is perfect. With 40mm on your wrist, end links are just too wide and the case has it's square edges going out too much. Also, I would have picked up that blue one. Tissot have done it right with this. Great review, and please wear your watches below the bone, at least for the camera shots :)
Jody, personally I think with some shots, the 35 looks a tad too small on you, the 40 wears quite well on you, but I understand what you say with regards to wearing a heavier watch a bit loose...still it's not 150grams so not too bad. Perhaps a 38 mm would do you good
I actually think more watches should forgo lume and see if they can do something more unique with the dial/hands. Grand Seiko's Quartz GMT (no bezel) comes to mind. The dial and hands work is quite stunning because they haven't added areas to apply lume so you get this glossy steel indices and hands that truly pop in light and give it a stylistic unity that can be, sometimes, disturbed by the lumed areas.
I agree. If they don't do lume worthy of the name they should explore polish and geometry to work in low light situations like Grand Seiko does. My Melbourne Burnley has minimal and useless lume however the applied batons and the edges of the hands are high polish with facits. I was surprised how effective this improves legibility in low light situations e.g. driving at evening.
Excellent review Jody. I have passed by the 40mm several times in the jeweler's case but never tried it on. Don't know why I havent as it is an intriguing piece but there's something that just doesn't connect with me. Haven't seen the 35mm in person yet but curious to get a first hand look at it.
I love how it looks this watch, but there is a big problem for me. 35mm only quartz and maybe a bit small for my taste, and 40mm too big (I have 17 cm wrist). The perfect would be a 37,5mm PRX (and if upgraded with micro adjust would be the icing on the cake)
The 35 looks good on you Brother fantastic, woah I love it simple but elegant at the same time very impressive sporty...is winner for me I have..Loreir Falcon and remind of this particular piece...great choice 👊👍..
Guys if you can, definitely go see it in person. I decided I was going to get the 35mm, and was shocked at how much smaller it was than I thought. It is quite difficult to get an accurate idea of how they wear from videos.
Bit of a Tissot fan, so disappointing that They don’t think I should be wearing it ( 8 inch wrists), good that the bracelet doesn’t catch since no micro adjust to get a good fit. It’s a good looking watch
