This is the 10th time I watched this- I still cry- especially with Justin's and Pablo's part. I can relate with them. In fact right after watching/ listening to Bazinga and Hanggang sa Huli, I watched this video by The Juans, and my heart went out to them. This video changed me from being a casual admirer to a true, devoted fan. Maybe part of the reason was that I could relate to their journey. When I was four I was mute. Even when I could speak at 5 years old, I was different from other kids. I was bullied, I was scolded often by teachers thinking I was "special" and couldn't follow like other kids. My older sister was the opposite- she was smart, her teachers all admire her, she's always ahead of everyone in class. I was inspired by her. I studied like books were the only source of joy in the world. By the time I finished 6th grade, I was a consistent honor student. In high school, I received academic awards for being an essayist and an outstanding student. But my dad had a financial crisis by the time I was in college- so I had to help my mom earn money to help my dad. If I didn't have a scholarship on my side which I managed by passing a national exam and a university entrance exam that has a quota (highest 10% passers in the region), I wouldn't be able to attend college because the school fees for any other school was far from affordable. I couldn't afford living in the dormitory so I commute every day. I go to class with only transportation fees in my pocket- no breakfast or lunch money- and no "baon" so I would buy candies and eat them in secret during class so I could stave off hunger. I graduated with latin honors in college. I tried to overturn all those expectations that defined me as a dumb, inferior wanna-be with no future in sight. SB 19's story is every Juan's story. It's my story- a story of defeat, of depression and nightmares- as well as of impossible dreams. But I will tell everyone- impossible dreams do come true. I'm speaking from experience- just like Pablo, Stell, Josh, Ken, and Justin. Until now I'm hated when I comment in youtube- they think I'm a confident know-it-all jerk who defends people because I see myself as a hero. Far from it- I defend people who are being "pushed down" because I know what it feels to be pushed down by people who don't know a thing about you. Maybe I still cry no matter how many times I've listened to the stories and trials of these 5 MAHALIMA because I know I was one of them. But the journey is far from over. Life goes on no matter what we feel about it. I want to be like Pablo, Stell, Josh, Ken, and Justin. I want to live for my own impossible dream. Sorry for the long reply- but I just want to let you know- we can cry together whenever we listen to this. ^_^
