What a lot of people don’t know is that the sub that imploded wasn’t the same one that was tested in the Bahamas in 2018 and 2019. A lot of the concerns David brought up were fixed in Titan 2…. Titan hull one did 6 dives to its crush depth and the acoustic monitoring system gave them a warning it was beginning to delaminate in the Bahamas at Titanic depths. It gave them enough warning to bring the sub back up. This validated an accustic monitoring system. As much as we talk about Stockton not classing the sub or testing it enough, him bringing Titan hull one to destruction was in a way part of the development of the sub. They tore apart this hull, found what was wrong with it and fixed a lot of the bugs on Titan version 2. Moving forward they had some reason to believe that the acoustic monitoring system worked. They knew the carbon fiber hull had a shelf life. They must of not thought they were approaching that number on that fateful day. Whatever happened that day, it appears the acoustic monitoring system didn’t work that day. Also the acrylic viewport not being tested below 1,300 meters doesn’t mean it can’t go below that, also stating that it can go below that isn’t right either. This was one of the concerns with Titan hull one that David mentioned. It’s not clear if the view port was changed in hull 2, but there was definitely changes in the lay up of the carbon fiber. Titan hull 2 made 13 dives to the Titanic, it made an additional 12 dives to what would be considered deep sea diving. All this information I found on RU-vid shared by advisors of Ocean gate you just need to do some research. One particular video that is the most useful is titled, “ Ocean Gate adviser shares untold stories about the Titan submersible.” Here’s the RU-vid link to that video if you’re interested. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-nfWDuB8p4kA.htmlsi=dStKP1yiVrYhv4rl

Did you read the Wired piece ? Yes there was a 2nd hull made, but there was no where near enough testing done/ the testing they did do did not indicate that it was safe for those depths. The fact he had full size hulls in a test chamber and choose to stop the tests at 4000m is criminal

the earlier hull failed. and was replaced - yes. The new hull, made in multiple layers individually cured, was not properly tested. they assumed it would work. also they reused the titanium rings that were bonded to the original hull. They could have sustained damage in that process. Oceangate should have done alot more testing. they assumed things would be fine, but they should have known.
