As if Stockton had enough money to buy a Congressman. More empty promises, to make himself look important and to threaten detractors with his imaginarly influence.
It's pretty much a private club for distinguished families of privilege... and it goes way back to the American Revolution. Possibly before then in the days of the American Colonists.
His family? The bohemian club and the annual bohemian grove event are sticky all-male organizations. If your going to make claims like this, at least have a sliver of an idea what your talking about. I’m embarrassed for you.
@@NalaRichenbach It's in Sonoma County, California, which wasn't settled by white rich people until long after the American Revolution. Strictly Republican and strictly male.
Stockton Rush fancied OceanGate to be the SpaceX of the marine world. He wanted things done quickly, resented any regulations and supervision, saying those things stifled innovation. What he failed to notice was that SpaceX did iterate through their experiments quickly, and had many spectacular failures, but those spectacular failures happened BEFORE they launched human beings. The fatal dive of the Titan was essentially just another experiment, but Stockton just had too much hubris to see it that way.
I don’t think there is any business out there that feels the governmental regulatory processes are efficient and streamlined and do not impede on innovation. The exception to this may be large incumbent companies and industries who find the excessive regulations beneficial because it creates barriers to entry for new smaller competitors.
@@TheGranicd They also had a viable business plan. Launching cargo to space has real value. There's very little value in sending an empty sub to the bottom of the ocean.
@@TheGranicd The car launch wasn’t entirely pointless PR; it was precisely part of the testing I pointed out. Not only did they test before launching people, but also before launching cargo. By that time, previous test launches had given them a reliable engine, and they then needed to test it under loads similar to what it would encounter launching satellites or cargo. The using of Musk’s old roadster, plus a mannequin to boot, was the PR part. The launch itself had a point.
@@Michael-oy3pz as I posted elsewhere, She is the "Macy's Department Store" Billionairess !!! Grandmah & Grandad drowned on the Titanic, see the connection now ? You don't expect the "Elite" to be held accountable , do you ?
So it's cheaper to buy a sitting member of congress than it is to adhere to safety standards. There is a message in there about capitalism and safety standards but it will take someone more eloquent than me to make it.
If you were to make a list of the anti-regulation statements made by Stockton Rush and compare them to the anti-regulation statements made by Elon Musk you would probably need to go through them carefully to figure out who said what as both though they knew better and both do NOT know better.
They are not comparable. Musk is sensible. Rush was NOT! Rush was delusional. Musk is not. Musk is SAFELY moving things ahead. Rush did not. THERE IS NO COMPARISON......PERIOD!
@@AWriterWanderingAs if the head of any space organization in history has actually gone into space. And if he did, people like you would scoff that it is ego and that he shouldn’t take a spot from a real astronaut. Those rockets were tested for YEARS before a human life was risked. Not comparable to Oceangate in any way.
You're right. The parallels are there and Elons recent hissy fit at the FAA has only pitched the fanboys at an agency that actually keeps people alive. Yes, the FAA isnt flawless, Yes, its politicised, Yes they keep people alive
Buying a congressman works for many. Just look at the multi billion dollar supplements industry in the US - totally unregulated and you can make whatever claim you want. A few decades ago the FDA announced it wanted to start looking into and regulating this industry as it does in pharmaceuticals. The supplement industry immediately hired lobbyists and bought congressional members and most famously the late Senator Orrin Hatch (R-Utah) who was known as Senator Down the Hatch for his ability to be bought. He became the champion of zero regulation of supplements.
The thing that I dont understand is how the port authority allowed this uncertified submersible to leave the port. Would think that as long as the vessel is at port all the laws of that country apply to that vessel.
He is right-some of these congressmen think they can say anything in that room-how arrogant! It’s time we had people who can stand up to their arrogance.
Yes the sub was poorly engineered but could methane from someone taking a wicked dump in the “very popular” toilet as Stockton quoted caused the carbon fiber to expand at that depth and then implode just saying and I have no idea what I’m talking about.
Trump is literally the most corrupt president that has ever held office are you serious. Multi felon multiple impeachments multiple charges that shows his disgusting true nature and character.
