To answer your initial question; yes, the footage was real. James Cameron and his team did multiples dives to capture the footage. Between having the ship blueprints and the footage, they were able to make the ship as authentic as possible.

You are right to an extent. The images in the mall tv screens you see are real footage from the wreck, however the actual wreck scenes were done in a model, they couldn’t get cameras down to the wreck site to film footage this good so a model was used instead. But the images you see on the small tv screens are real footage from Cameron’s dive.

I watched a documentary about the Titanic. The director of the movie Titanic says, if you see only 1 submarine it's real footage. If you see 2 submarine they used a model. I also love the fact that he went on a dive to the real wreck, and he did the movie to help fund going to the Titanic wreck again; he's so brave to go.

The shots in which you only see one submarine are the actual wreck filmed from the other sub. If you are seeing both subs in the frame, those are miniatures. Also, the sunken piano, shoe, eyeglass frame and doll's face were filmed in a tank in Escondido down here by San Diego. One more: when you're shown Ireland receding from the stern as Titanic starts across the Atlantic, you're really looking at Catalina Island.

Shout out to Kathy Bates as Molly Brown because she always makes me smile no matter how many times I watch this movie. I saw this in the theater as a teenager with my boyfriend and when we walked home afterwards it was raining.. a couple blocks from my house we stopped and kissed and apparently my friend Zack saw it from his house and he still tells me to this day it was the most romantic thing he's ever seen in real life 😂 that bf turned out to be a dbag but it's the moment that counts and always pops up in my head when I hear the Celine Dion song. Yes that's real footage of the Titanic at the beginning of the movie that James totally got himself. He went down several times for different shots and they paid meticulous attention to detail when recreating the ship.

FUN FACTS: James Cameron, Leonardo DiCaprio, Kate Winslet & Celine Dion contributed a combined amount of $30,000 to help with the financial support fund to the youngest Titanic survivor Millvina Dean. Millvina Dean was 2 months old when she was on the Titanic with her family. Millvina died in 2009 at the age of 97. The movie characters Margaret "Molly" Brown, Thomas Andrews, Capt. Edward J. Smith, Bruce Ismay, John Jacob Astor & many more are based on the real-life victims & survivors, by the same name, of the Titanic James Cameron received official certification & license to take a team to the bottom of the Atlantic Ocean to record footage of the Titanic multiple times. So the footage at the beginning of the movie is real.

My grandma used to own the vhs tapes of this movie, she loved it so much. I would watch it with her all the time but i always somehow felt so cold everytime we did, she said rose and jack reminded her of her and my grandfather cause he also saved her from an abusive relatiionship. I didnt watch it for a while after i turned into a teenager cause i had other interests and had school stuff to worry about, and my brain kind of pushed the movie to the back of my mind. When my grandma passed in 2016, i wanted to watch it again but couldnt bring myself to actually do so. A couple years ago, i was browsing netflix, i seen it on there and hit play, i couldnt stop crying through the whole tragedy part of the movie, i felt so cold, i started shivering uncontrollably, i disassociated and felt extremely cold water around me paralyising me. My husband believes in reincarnation, he thinks in a past life, i was also on the ship and passed in the water and its the reason i have that reaction each time ive watched the movie alone and had headphones on crying uncontrollably. Its easier to not disassociate during the tragedy scenes if my husband is there cause hell notice i start shivering and hold my hand and it brings me back. I can listen to the movie and be fine, ill know whats happening but when i physically see it in full by myself i have such a crazy body reaction. This is my favorite movie despite what it does to me. Its so well done and the accuracy of how the ship looks is perfect. James cameron and all the actors and extra behind the scene workers did so wonderful on this movie.

From my understanding from DVD commentary, the reason why James Cameron even made this film was that he could go down to the wreck himself and build a story out of it. Some of the footage is real. @jamesf.ryaniii7918
@jamesf.ryaniii7918 2 месяца назад
7:01 "....I've never been on a cruise ship...." Titanic was not a cruise ship....it was an ocean liner. The primary purpose of an ocean liner is transportation across seas or oceans. Ocean liners are faster and built to withstand the rough seas and adverse conditions encountered on long voyages across the open ocean. Ocean liners are often designed with thicker hull plating than is found on cruise ships, as well as a deeper draft for greater stability, and have large capacities for fuel, food, and other consumables on long voyages. The primary purpose of a cruise ship is the ship itself - the onboard amenities are a big part of the vacation. Cruise ships leave a port, visit several small ports for day excursions and eventually return to the starting port. Cruise ships tend to have less hull strength, speed, and agility compared to ocean liners.
@kaila279
@kaila279 2 месяца назад
Also, Titanic is tiny compared to the size of modern day cruise ships as well. Until I saw the pictures comparing them, I didn't realize the true giant size of our cruise ships now days lol
@jamesf.ryaniii7918
@jamesf.ryaniii7918 2 месяца назад
@@kaila279 Correct. Modern day cruise ship size has gotten out of control. Most are 2-3x larger than Titanic. But, they still wouldn't survive in the rough seas They are also very boxy and slab-sided which would not bode well in the strong winds encountered in the middle of the ocean. Even though they look top heavy, they are not because they are built with a lot of aluminum and other lightweight materials. Most cruise ships travel at 20mph. The only ocean liner the Queen Mary 2 (2004-present) and the Queen Elizabeth 2 (retired in 2008) both traveled at 30mph with a max speed of 35mph. The QM2 and QE2 could cross the Atlantic in 5-7 days (weather permitting). A cruise ship, if it could carry enough fuel and food and if the ship could withstand the high seas and high winds, would take 7-9 days or longer (weather permitting) to make the same crossing.

@thomasnieswandt8805
@thomasnieswandt8805 2 месяца назад
Actually not completly...the conversation was real and based on the witness E. Lesslei, HOWEVER... The US press, owned by Randoph Hurst tried to smear Ismay. Lesslei witnessed Ismay saying "Engines running fine, ship runs smooth, we might beat Olympic and reach New York on tuesday, not Wednesday". Hurst only took the last bit ot the last sentense "beat Olympic and reach New York on tuesday" Combned with the fact, that Ismay had sent a radio message to New York basically saying "Titanic sank, need quick passage back to England" was his doom. But same here, Ismays frst message was (meaning) "Titanic, sank, 1500 dead, do what we can do to help" But in the hectic in Carpatias wireless room, his first message wasnt send, so it doomed him further. ...So every Titanic movie, ever made, portaied him as the bad guy.

James Cameron has dove the Titanic over 30 times. The exterior footage of the ship is real. The interior shots are a flooded set. Anytime you see two submersibles in one shot it’s a set. If you only see one, it’s real footage. Both the ship and the submersibles used in the movie are the same that have gone on multiple Titanic Expeditions.

I like the time traveler theory for this movie. It makes sense of the anachronisms involving Jack - he has items and talks about places that don't exist at this time. Jack didn't die. He went back to his own time then tried to meet Rose at the place he shouldn't have known about, but she never figured out the hints he had dropped.

While your idea for the Bukater women to stay solvent is sound, the paintings would not be worth all that much in 1912. It takes time for them to become valuable. As for other possessions, Daddy probably had a lot of it mortgaged to the hilt to retain the illusion of his wealth. If you owe more than your stuff is worth, you're broke.

I wanted to say that you're 100% right. James Cameron, Michael Bay and Stanley Kubrick were and are notorious for their hyper-perfectionism and attention to the most microscopic detail. Here's a joke for you: Stanley Kubrick, who died in 1999, has often been featured in loony conspiracy theories about mankind never going to the moon. Except he was such an obsessive perfectionist he decided to fake the moon landing right there on the actual moon, complete with fully functional space suits, actual NASA astronauts and lunar module. And they had to redo it 128 times until they got it perfect.😅🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
