This is so fascinating. I am so glad to have come across these videos... FINALLY some great RAW footage of the wreck. I have been searching for this kind of thing for years!!!!
Pause at 4:19 if youre confused where you are. Right infront of the screen is the base of the staircase at D deck that leads to the reception room. Right bellow is the base of the staircase at E deck that leads to the scotland road. Hope this helps 😊
yes, that there at 2:01 shows what was the bottom of the Grand Staircase at F deck. What is left are steel girders that would have supported the stairway structure, which was made up largely of oak. It is presumed that as the ship sank, the staircase, which was only held by weight/gravity! actually popped out of the skylight....the theory came from, ironically, while filming Titanic by James Cameron. The wooden set of the staircase did just that, as set was flooded, the entire wooden stage structure, built from old blueprints, actually came off its seating and started to float....it was lucky nobody was seriously hurt. But, it seems very plausible that's how it also happened in real life. Portions of the grand staircase have been located in the debris field, but very little inside the ship.
