Titanic History/The Children of the Titanic 

Lorraine was the only 1st Class child who did not survive the sinking. And because she was from a rich family, she got a lot of press. But how about all the children from 3rd Class who didn't survive. Their stories are just as heart-breaking. But because they were poor, the press hardly wrote about them; and to this day, we only know bits & pieces about them.

The story of Frank Goldsmith is an interesting one. He was 9 years old when the Titanic sank, and afterwards he lived in Detroit near where the MLB team, Detroit Tigers would play. Every time the crowd cheered because someone hit a home run it reminded him of the people on the Titanic thrashing in the water after it sank. Thus, he never took his children to baseball games. Eerie

About 8 years ago I read a book called "Shadows of the Titanic." The book detailed that half of the Titanic survivors died within 10 years of the sinking due to suicides (due to PTSD) or from freak accidents. One actually had a piano dropped on them from the window of a 3 story building. Another actually died in history's first fatality car accident. When you consider the top speed of a car back then was 20 mph, this is eye opening.

The story of Lorraine Allison is so heartbreaking. I have a little girl two years old. The thought of her terrified in freezing cold water makes me sick to my stomach. I have an infant son as well. I cant imagine what those parents felt as they searched for their son. Those poor, poor people. Horrible

Trevor Allison, the boy who escaped with the nanny, died at age 18. He is said to have died of food poisoning.

This was a hard one to watch, the thought of those poor babies perishing on that ship hurt my heart. There was scene in the 1980s Titanic movie that shows people rushing to abandon ship and there is this scene of an infant left sitting in the passenger way forgotten and abandoned, crying in fear and despair. It kills me to think that those poor children died alone and terrified.

To me, the saddest story of child deaths on Titanic is that of Sidney Goodwin. He was the Unknown Child for nearly a century until he was finally identified about 15 years ago. The crew of the Mackay-Bennett was was heartbroken finding his body.

The death of all the Paulson/Pålsson-children is one that hits me hard. There were 4 of them, travelling with their mother Alma on the Titanic to emigrate from Sweden to the US. Apparently, Alma got all of the children dressed when the sinking occurred, but they didn't reach the lifeboats in time. What hurts extra hard for me is that the father already had emigrated and was waiting for them to join him in America.

It's so sad to think that Of the 109 children traveling on the Titanic, almost half were killed when the ship sank - 53 children in total. And 52 - the number of children from steerage, 3rd class who perished!

One thing I think people need to always keep in mind anytime they scrutinize the decisions of a person on titanic (such as the Allisons) is that almost no one thought the ship was going to sink until the very end.

Eva's mom's intuition saved their lives. If deep inside you feel something is wrong, it is and you should listen to it, every time (speaking from my own experience). It reminded me of a story I once read (I don't know how accurate it is, so if it's fake please let me know) about a man who ALMOST got on Titanic. Apparently he was in the line, but he kept hearing ''don't do this'' in his head. The closer he was to board the ship, the louder the voice got and finally he gave in and left the line. His intuition saved his life, too.

It is so sad however his dad did not make it with her but I'm so glad that her mom and ever survived I think Eva's mom is a hero

Like you, I don't put much stock in predictions, although I DID have an unexplainable experience back in the early 1980s. At the time my wife and I were living in Toronto and my parents lived 500 miles away. I was at work and at around 10 a.m. a very strong feeling came over me that something was wrong. I immediately called my wife and she reassured me all was fine. I asked her to check to make sure the door to our apartment was double locked. All through the day the feeling inside me grew. By 3 p.m. I started getting paranoid. I was SURE something was wrong or something was about to go wrong. I was starting to fear someone would push me onto the subway tracks on my way home. I can assure you I hugged those subway walls to remain safe. I was especially careful crossing streets making sure I wouldn't be hit while walking between the subway station and my apartment. Once I closed the apartment door and double locked it, I felt relief! But I still knew something was wrong and felt that way until I went to bed that evening. The following day I had completely forgotten about the horrible feeling I had had the previous day. On the following weekend my aunt from my home town was visiting Toronto so she came to visit my four brothers, my wife and me at my apartment. That is when she announced that my mother was in intensive care following a massive heart attack. My mom did not want to worry us, so she asked our dad not to tell us. At that time I did not remember the bad feeling I had earlier in the week. Then when everyone was gone my wife reminded me of the feeling I had earlier in the week. It turns out I started having that bad feeling the very same days and AT THE VERY SAME TIME as my mother was having her massive heart attack! I knew then that my horrible feeling was justified because something horribly wrong had been going on that day! So yes, premonitions, for lack of a better word, do exist. I don't believe that just anyone can have them though.

I felt bad for Lorraine---she didn't live, but her brother did. I watched Eva Hart's interview on here---very interesting lady. So sad the kids who died---those innocent lives cut short in such a horrible tragedy. All kiddos should have been saved in my opinion. Great video once again. (Jan Griffiths).

Only 3 of the children's bodies were recovered. They were: Walter John van Billiard, age 9, body number 1. Sidney Leslie Goodwin, age 19 months, body number 4. Anthony William Sage, age 12, body number 67.

That "bump" scared the soul out of me

Hey i never knew that story of the 9 year old boy and that hat. Also Ava Hart remembered the sinking and never had her head down and saw it sink and break in two. It was dreadful and she could now see that ship sink. Then the screams and then nothing but dead bodies around a dark night. She also met Captain Smith on the deck and said he was a nice man. So sorry about Lorraine!

I just came back from Las Vegas. I went to The Titanic Exhibit at The Luxor Hotel. Was very nice. They had a big piece of the ship wreck on display there.

The story of lookout Frederick Fleet is an interesting but sad one. He survived the sinking, and both WW1 and WW2. In 1964 his wife passed away, and her brother evicted him from the house. He returned in the January of 65 and hung himself. He was buried in a Paupers grave, and never received a headstone until 1993 due to funding. The Titanic is engraved on said stone. Very sad.

If you must cover a specific person, I can think of few better and more interesting than Father Francis Browne, who took the only known surviving photos of life on Titanic. His departure at Queenstown (now Cobb) Ireland after about a day on board is the only reason we have these remarkable photos.

My youngest child just turned 2, still a literal baby. It's so sad especially since she should've been in the best position to survive. But you can't blame her poor frightened parents either who wouldn't have been able to live with themselves knowing the didn't at least search for their son. So incredibly tragic for all involved. Leaving your husband and older sons on a doomed ship just must've been a gutting feeling.

I just go through and like all his videos. I don't care, he's a nice enough guy. Kinda the sort of person you want to see succeed

For my semester project I am doing my research on Titanic with a focus on her people. Your videos are incredible. I only found your channel maybe two weeks ago and I'm very impressed. I thought I was a Titanic expert turns out I am not, far from it in fact, though my professor seems to love her story from what I've told him so far. You're the expert though, and I mean that most sincerely. One of the things I have come across is that out all the survivor accounts I have read, they all said the same thing- they saw a ship's lights in the distance and we both know which ship that was. My twenty-five years of research have barely scratched the surface, your videos and information are a huge help to me. Thank you!

It would be interesting to see a video on what if Titanic hadn’t sunk. Whilst it’s an absolute tragedy, it also drove a marked improvement in safety and technology for ships to try to ensure this never happened again. How much farther back could we be if the ship hadn’t sunk and shocked the board of international trade and others into updating their safety standards and shocked the builders and shipping lines into looking for new safety features?

I was waiting the story about the head of doll, which was found by Robert Ballard 1986. I think that I once read speculation, that it could have belonged to Lorraine Allison, the only child victim from first class. Did the doll sink together with Lorraine to bottom of ocean, and thats why the head of doll was found on debris field near the wreck?

Great video on these children! It’s absolutely heartbreaking. My mother has always wondered something about the Titanic, that being the bodies left in the water after the sinking, what happened to them and how the cleanup went. Do you suppose you can put together a video going over them?

Orepainium is always telling people not to spam during live streams! I know why he's doing it but people are just trying to get their question acknowledged and if a question is being repeated people are just really enthusiastic for the stream. And sometimes he can be a little aggressive with his replies and don't need to be told repeatedly

Must be so tragic for the children that survived to have to live with the trauma of that night's experience. Great video as always on a subject I can never get enough of. Want to leave a video suggestion of trying to look at the history of how various films have portrayed the Titanic over the years. I even wrote a college essay on how Nazi Germany even tried to put together a blockbuster film about the Titanic sinking in order to vilify British aristocratic. The story behind the nightmare production of that film, it's eventual failure, and what happened to the vessel that was used to portray the Titanic in that film is a really interesting tale.

Couple children died not long after the sinking. Mary Nakid a 3rd class passenger emigrated from Lebanon *some sources say it was Austria* was 18 months old when Titanic sank and when she survived. She sadly perished from meningitis couple months later at age 2. Robert Spedden 1st class and known in the famous photo of a boy spinning a top on the deck-died three years after Titanic sank on August 1915 from being struck by an automobile at age 9. Crazy thing is both him and Ebba Andersson were 6 years old during the Titanic sinking, and their birthdays was in November 1905.

I enjoy your videos and you obviously put in a lot of work on researching the subject matter you cover. Also the wood paneling on the wall behind you reminds me of my own abusive childhood.

i have heard a few radio interviews with eva hart. she was also friends with phil brady on radio station 3aw in melbourne australia and they talked on air a lot. i believe she said a few times her mother slept in a deck chair. she felt very strongly about her premonition and it might haver saved the two of them.

Hi Sam - Here's a suggestion for a video - what happened to the hikers at the Dyatlov Pass in 1959. I would love to know what you think about it.

I wonder how many would have been saved had the lifeboat drill not been cancelled. Maybe the planned drill would have cleared up some of the confusion around the "women and children first/ only" debate. Maybe the crew could have had the boats loaded and launched more efficiently.

I have an idea for you. What if the SS New York collided with Titanic? Would it have been enough to put the ship out of commission before her maiden voyage even begun, and how would White Star deal with the fallout from passengers having to refund all that booked passage on Titanic? How long would it have taken to patch her up and restart the postponed maiden voyage at a later date, and might it have been possible that Olympic may also have risked colliding with an iceberg in the same area Titanic would, if she had to cover for her sister till she was repaired? or the ship that Titanic replaced on the transatlantic schedule, either Majestic or Teutonic?
