I bought this same welder two weeks ago, I was in a bind and needed something on site 600 miles from my usual setup. If you're wanting to get 1/4 inch to stick on 120v use the "evil straw" flux core. It's not pretty, it's not ideal but I have had pretty good luck with welding 5/8 with 035 wire on 120v.

I do a mobile tire shop and right now I can stretch and paint wheels. Can this welder can weld hairline cracks in aluminum wheels with the spool gun? Provided I heat the rim first and run it on 240.

Thanks for the video. I have access to someone else's mig 170 titanium welder and wanted to see how to use it. I am used to a large miller welder.

Thanks for such a great review of this machine. I am looking into buying this to help with some of the work on my 1990 Ultra Blue GT. Yours looks great.

Looks good works good. Can't beat that. I was just telling my son that he is going to learn how to weld this summer. I have a little Lincoln wire feed mig. Works awesome. Great tool for the automotive stuff you are planning 👍😎🖖

Go grab an old piece a car and practice on that. The thin stuff is a little tricky.

Thanks for the good video. I can't find any specs on stinger and grnd lengths. Even in store there is no access to cables. Is stinger connection proprietary or will lincoln etc also connect properly? thanks

I think you will be better off with 0.30 wire, plus get wire that is not from harbor freight. get lincon wire or hobart wire. plus use 25/75 gas it will make your welding 10 fold welding.

Thanks, Ive got this thing dialed in so good on the 025 co2 I love it. We use co2 at the fabrication shop I work at also so its what Im used to. :)

@DaveCaresForYou I have not with this machine, but thats a technique to learn, not the welding machines fault.

What's the difference between hobart wire ?

FYI in the future there is a faster cold wire feed for new wire. You may know this already by now.

I just bought this model. It tripped me out that it stats to run slow when u pull the teigger...after a few seconds...it picks up the speed....is this what u mean? Any additional info on this please?!

LOL your using 120v outlet. If you can try 220 on the 1/4 inch. Nice video thx

Seeing that you’re familiar with cars. With basic welding knowledge. Could I use this to weld on sub frame connectors?

Does it work with 15amp, or 20amp
@johnhubbard6262
@johnhubbard6262 Год назад
The manual specs are 120V @ 24A which would indicate a 25 or 30A breaker, but shows a 20A outlet and plug. A dedicated 20amp circuit might do the trick, but thinking I will use a 30A breaker and run #10

So my mig 170 does the same slow wire feed initially and speeds up after 3-4 seconds like yours does. I bavent noticed a difference in my welds and dont even know if it does it when im actually welding. I was wondering if this is normal but now i see yours does it too. Any more info on that?
@JohnVHLife
@JohnVHLife 4 месяца назад
Its normal. Not positive why though
@josesupra
@josesupra 4 месяца назад
@JohnVHLife so did some more research on it this morning. It's a feature to feed the wire. Once you actually have gas running and strike and arc it acts normal. Supposedly anyway. I guess it's common on most newer welders, but they don't list it in the manual as a feature or say anytning at all about it from what I know.

I think mine had a silonoid failure and it worked like twice and stopped so I returned it the next day it's getting gas to hoses and whip is clear if u look on owner manual it shows the solenoid being only thing inline that give the gas when the gun triggers it u should hear gas when u hit the gun

Nothing professional about this welder, or anything from HF, but it does seem like a good cheap package if you need to do aluminum on spool. I got an ac tig and a 350p with a push pull, but need something cheap and portable for migging steel and alum.

Why does your wire speed stop at 275 ?? The mig 140 goes from 80-275 wire speed. Mig 170 supposed to be 80-400 wire speed hmmm ❓️❓️
@jesusandrade874
@jesusandrade874 Год назад
I think plugged into 120 it only goes up to 275, plugged into 240 it goes to 400, I just bought one yesterday and haven't found a 240outlet to plug it into yet to verify

you should use 75/25 gas mix you will have better welds and less spatter. 100% co2 is not really for welding.
