You start getting the boo birds from fans, Rudolph chants start, and the locker room becomes unsettled. If you bench Will now he's in a position where he can learn, grow, and not have everyone against him. You dont have to give up on him though. If Mason isn't good or the team is just mediocre and Will starts to show improvement in practice then you can send him back out there as the starter. Callahan is jumping the gun by making a statement about who the starter is right after the game. There's no need for a statement. Go talk to your other coaches and evaluate the situation thoroughly before saying anything to the media
