Did you show driver data for the avx in that video ? Not sure... It's very nice to be able to test your game and equipment in so much detail, and share your results 👍

I have been playing the AVX for about a month now (played TP5 and Pro V previously) and i absolutely love the ball. The feeling, the look, it just gives me confidence standing over it and my golf game has agreed.

First off, great video. One of your best. Seemed more genuine? I don’t know but I liked it. My final thought was that when you had to play for score you went back to the Taylormade. That says a lot. Play what you have faith in. For us higher handy cappers we play what makes us feel confident. I love Taylormade balls. I don’t seem to hit the ProV as well. All in my head I am sure but if I have a choice a pick the one I am comfortable with. Again, great job Pete.

Pete, I have been playing the AVX for about a month now over Pro V1. I have notice much less spin with my driver over all. I am making the full switch to AVX now.

I had a ball fitting at American golf this week Pete. Tried the TP5, AVX and the new Wilson staff balls. I’m no ball snob, and currently play off 10. I based my results on feel off the face and control. The best outcome for me was the super soft Wilson DX2. As Hugo says below, the outer cover looks and feels almost identical between the AVX and the DX2, but a big difference in price.

I’ve tried the AVX . Love the feel and low spin off the driver. Works good in my shortgame aswell. It’s a pity they are so Darn expensive...

I recently bought a sleeve of the AVX balls to try out, and have played 2 rounds so far. I had been playing the Callaway Chromesofts for a few months. My first round i shot an 83 (about average for me) 2nd round I shot a 73(8 shots lower than my previous best of 81). Now thats probably not all due to the ball, but I did notice that my misses werent as wild to the right and left. I'll definitely be sticking with the AVX.

Hit the ball high, got recommended AVX and instantly noticed that I hit the ball longer and with less spin. The ball cuts through the wind better also which is à huge plus for me. The only negative was that I had three three-putts on the day in the local competition but I think it had more to do with me than the ball... 😅

played with both AVX and TP5x, high club speed and spin especially with my driver, I found that the AVX really helps with distance and keeping spin lower whilst I actually found fantastic ball flight with short Irons, It doesnt spin much from around the Green, the TP5x spins marginally more and with mid Irons the AVX has more distance but the tp5x has a more consistent ball flight.

The AVX ISN'T for everyone.........but it is for me. I absolutely love this ball. I play in in Texas, which means I play in a lot of wind. The AVX holds its line better than anything I've come across to date. And for sure, the added distance is a bonus too..... What little spin I sacrifice around the green I'll take given the added benefits that come with this ball.

I will be honest I never really liked the Titleist balls in the past, I always thought there were much better balls on the market. like the prior generation chrome soft and TP5X, and even the Volvix S4's. I have been using the new AVX for the past few weeks and just like you my problem is a spin my driver more than I like, with this ball it brings my spin down which is making me go longer and hit more fairways. So this is the first time ever I will be using a Titleist ball from now on

Its a great ball. I play the bright yellow ones. I hardly ever lose a ball but the bright yellow really shows up well on the course. I love the way they feel off my putter and clubs overall. Extremely nice touch and feel and they go long. Spider Dubiel

Having got a little bonus from work I decided to try a sleeve. Now I do understand as a high handicapper that this ball isn't aimed at me that said I found that I could play it fairly well and got some decent distance my only concern was on shots which I didn't get the best strike I was coming up short as it seems to fall out of the sky whereas I may not get the best out of a pro v1 or a tp5 but at least I can game them

Tried both and although both performed well, I just can't justify the cost. How about a comparison test Peter with the Callaway Chrome soft balls. The prior gen vs the current one. I ask, as the prior gen which is still available is only $31 and change, whereas the current version is upwards of $47. Great vids as always!!

I've triet TP5, Chromesoft, prov and avx and there is minimal difference between them. I just have a "feeling" of preference towards the TP5/Chromesoft. Another quality bit of info Pete 👍

AVX not for sale in Australia yet (latter this month they reckon) but managed to get a hold of one off the pro at the club and, like you, I noticed lower spin off the driver without loss of control around the green. I'll be switching to the AVX when the become available.

Hi Pete, I tried the AVX last Sunday & loved it. Will definitely continue with them through the summer. They definitely have a flatter more penetrating ball flight for me with the driver, which combined with the firm fairways on our course makes me feel like a big hitter! The only real difference apart from the ball flight I found was a touch more roll out on the green when using 6 or 7 irons. Be interesting to see how they perform in the damper Autumn & Winter. I guess any spin/control difference then may be minimal?

Hi Pete. Like yourself, I spin my driver a little high (average around 2800-3000). I normally use pro v1’s and had some competition winnings, heard about these so bought some, thought I’d give them a try. Just need to get out there and give them a go now. I’ll let you know how I get on 👍

Interesting review. I played the AVX for a few rounds in the Northeast when I was given a sleeve at a course where the Titleist reps were doing a promotion. I thought the action vs. TP5x and Pro V were similar, but I really liked the feel of the ball off the club and the putter. I just can't justify the extra couple of $$ over the TM or even the Pro V for a bit of feel. I hear Titleist kept the ball, adn I am glad they did, becuase of the posititive feedback, but I think they will suffer becuase of the extra couple of $$ they are priced at over the Pro V and similar balls.

Not sure a low spin ball will help me as I spend a lot of time in the rough and get little enough spin as it is, so going with a low spinning ball just isn't worth it for me. Great review though Pete, thanks for taking the time to show us this ball. Dimples on that ball look more hexagonal to my eye.

Pete, great content as always, and very good timing as these balls seem to be showing up in shops and on the course. I found one (a "yeller" one) and played it a few holes and liked it. I bought a sleeve and played the same ball for 18 holes, and I've chipped around a practice green a few times. For the short game I thought it felt like a harder cover and make a distinct clicking sound off a milled putter (Piretti). Definitely a different feel and sound off my putter. Probably less off an insert putter. I am a ProV, ProVx player and can also see a little less check and stop on chips and pitches. The classic Titleist "stop and drop" you get from ProV1 is more like stop and run out an extra couple of yards on full wedge thru about 8 iron. Off the driver the difference is most noticeable. As a high-spin driver player I have forever been trying to lower my peak height and spin to get more run. With the AVX that occurred every time. In fact, on some holes where I was used to trying to go over trees off the tee I was not able to manufacture that shot that came so easily with the ProV balls. It is something I think I will get used to and adapt. I like the lower, boring trajectory and roll. I'm going to stick with this ball for the summer. Have some hot weather CA golf ahead and really look forward to the change. Sorry for the novel, but I enjoy your site and wanted to let you know.

So I've been playing the tp5x for 3 years now and the prior generation also I am a huge fan of tp5x until I tried the avx. Now I haven't taken it it on the course just putting with it and I definitely can say it feels softer than the tp5x. That's a big deal for me feel that is I thought tp5x was softer than prov1x which is why I switched to tp5x now avx feels softer. Regardless you cant go wrong with either or.

Never seen them as yet hence never tried them. Probably wont either at the rate I lose golf balls! More seriously I would have to get my swing and hitting checked out to see if I actually needed a lower spinning ball before i committed to them - I think it would help me but would rather get data on my striking first Great vlog as always ; love golf tech on a Tuesday! Golf is a strange thing, every one has different experience with the same equipment. I am a 18 Handicap with only one good arm golfer. Avg. club head speed is around 72 mph. I have tested this AVX ball too. Here is my own experience with it. Driver - the ball roll more than Pro-VI and x, I normally generated a lot of spin on my driver, therefore the descend angle is much steeper than most of my golf mates. As a result my ball normally does not roll a lot after landing. But this AVX ball create a less APEX (less height) as a result the ball roll a bit more after landing. Simply it reduces the back spin of the strike from my driver. Good-for distance, bad-less control on distance (at least until I am used to the total distance travelled). I lost three of them :( :( due to roll out of fairway into the real rough, which I don't normally get that kind of distance. Irons mainly approach shot, on Par 5, it gives me a little more distance on my second shot, onto the green it roll too long , it does not stop as quickly as ProV1 and x under my swing. Putting, the ball feel soft compare to both ProV1 and x, but it is a little bit hotter than I would like, it shoot off from my putter a little bit more aggressively than I have expected. It took me three holes to get use to it. Don't forget, I was testing it in a hot and dry condition (very unusual in UK). It will be nice for me to test it when the ground is soft and soggy, which would be our normal playing ground condition. Thanks.

Received the AVX as a gift. They don’t work for me at all. They are simply much to low flying. I don’t know my normal spin rate. I’m 54, 5 hdcp, moderate ball flight. I recommend a sleeve before jumping into a dozen. Normal ball for me NikeBlack, TP5 or PV1X. FYI- they do feel nice just poor results for me.

AVX actually does go longer by a few yard for me on avg... it also goes a bit straighter.. I’m guessing cause of the low spin... I don’t know if it’s me but the tp5 sounds clickier... AVX sounds feels softer .. I seem to control the AVX just a bit better... I tend to come over the top on driver... I’m 95-100mph on driver.. I prefer AVX ..hope that helps someone ..I’m a 10-12 handicap most days...

Honestly Pete, I appreciate your thoughts on this ball, but my game (and pocketbook) are not at premium ball level. I play the Callaway Supersofts. In its price category the Supersoft is a really nice ball. Its a great fit for some.

9 Handicap Review of the AVX after about two weeks of testing: I liked how the ball felt when hitting irons and it flew well in the wind. However, I didn't like how it felt around the green and off the tee. It feels like it comes off "dead" and with a low ball flight. The ball has some "rock-like" tendencies around firm Bermuda greens. I'm switching back to the regular ProV1 because I feel I can control it better around the greens compared to the AVX. But, I may give this ball another shot at another time. For now, this ball is too low spinning for my game.

Pete, there has been confusion about the 2018 ProV1 and ProV1x spin. They haven't actually swapped round but the marketing is confusing as the website comparison for the balls would lead you to believe that the spin rates have flipped. However, the 2018 ball characteristics detailed on the website are not comparison against each other BUT compared to the 2017 ball. avx vs tp5x would be great to see! seeing as the tp5x should have higher ball speeds and lower spin than the tp5 and might be just about identical in performance to the avx. that would give the tp5x a win as its considerably cheaper than the avx. also keen to hear about performance in the wind. cheers.

Great stuff, Pete. I've been using the TP5 on and off over the last year, but it hasn't been able to kick the Cut Blue ball out of the bag. Honestly, I've never been a fan of ProV's, mostly due to the ridiculous price than the feel or performance, but the AVX has been intriguing me a bit.

I'm a 6 hcp..AVX is a great ball! Almost a club length longer with my irons , and most important low spinning with driver . Short game I like to bump and run my chips so it works for me and they still have some check on them.

I tested all Titleist balls during a Titleist ball fitting and found that the AVX for most amateurs spins too less on shorter shorts. Seeing as you only hit a maximum of 15 or so drives per round I find the Pro V1/x to be more beneficial.

Pete. Very interesting as to where Titleist are going with there balls. Seems like its all turned around. Haven't tried, probably won't. Our well known Golf Shops down under wont even put the price on their web site. That scares me.

Yeah Peter. AVX are great balls. I have found they go far, hold green. I am not much of an iron player. Use only wedges. My clubs consist of Woods and Hybrids. I love the feel of the AVX off of all my clubs. I like the Titleist balls in general. I have played with their Tour Soft which I like quite a bit, the True Soft which is great especially if you don't lose balls much as they are extremely durable and I mean big time durable. I must confess also that I do enjoy the Callaway Supersoft as well. They are fun to play with on occasion and I would rather lose one of those then an AVX. Lots of leaves here in New England now for balls to hide under. Love the videos of you, Carly Booth and Rick by the way. Keep those videos coming my friend. Greetings from Manchester, Ct East coast of United States. Spider Dubiel

Bought a sleeve last Wednesday, went for two rounds, lost all three by the end and went straight back to the pro shop the next day to buy a dozen because they were the best feeling golf ball I’ve ever played, super duper soft no matter what club, easier for me to hit with my swing speed than the Pro V’s and I get all the short game spin I can want!

I switched between ProV1x, TP5x and Chrome Soft x to try and find a similar pattern to yourself where my driver span less but my irons and wedges span equally and the best ball was TP5x by a mile. I have use the AVX for two rounds now and shot my lowest score 72 (off 5) around a very windy looks course, the AVX so far is the best ball i have used and it suits my game.

I currently game the TP5x since I tend to be a higher spin player, particularly off the tee. I would be interested in seeing the comparison between the TP5x and the AVX, especially since the TP5x is TaylorMade's lower spinning ball and is more of a direct competitor to the AVX.

Love the look of these but at the price point of Titleist balls it's just not worth a player of my ability throwing money at them. On a bad round i could lose 6 of these over 18 holes and that would get a bit expensive. Srixon AD333 suits me just fine and are half the price

Just so everybody knows premium golf balls do make a difference. I went and played 18 holes yesterday and the first 9 holes I played with the AVX and shot even-par then I played TaylorMade tp5 on the back nine and shot 4 over. Saw a bigger difference in ball flight, spin was down with AVX but the ball is more penetrating in the Wind.

Interesting test Pete. Not sure that the average golfer with a slower swing speed really needs this ball. It appears to have similar qualities to many of less expensive soft feel balls available, but with a premium price. It will be interesting to see which you use going forward. I have been using TP5 recently and prefer them to pro v1.

Love to see this kind of extended test -- wouldn't mind seeing even more data. Something like hit fifteen or twenty 7-irons with each ball and compare the numbers. With that sample size, your averages would be more representative. I shared this sentiment with Rick a long time ago but the idea didn't really have legs for him. I only mention it again because I think it would allow you to make more conclusive, data-backed statements about ball X being longer/lower spin/etc than ball Y. Btw, though you said it was slightly longer and lower spin, I didn't see the numbers for the AVX with the driver in the video. Could you share those?

Hi Pete I work in a golf store in Australia and was given a trial sleeve. I used one just to try and weather it was the ball or not I shot a 66 on the grange east course. Which is my lowest round to date. Launch monitor numbers I got compared to the srixon z star Xv which I use normally was very little differences. Yet it felt different on the course.

I’ve been playing Nike rzn platinums and just about out. Played an avx a few holes and loved it. Amazing off the tee and checked up great into the greens. Love the content Pete

Pete, what I read from Titleist & seen from other sources about the ProV1 & X is that the back of the packet is compared to last year, not that the balls have flipped roles.... wondering if you’d heard/read anything about that

Great analysis Pete. I've been toying around with the AVX for the past 4 rounds and honestly really like it. It is checking most of the boxes for me and it may stay in the bag for some further testing.
