For me, one of the strengths of Martin’s reviews is his silky smooth tempo. Some online reviewers have lightning fast swings that are difficult to relate to. Another quality golf club. Many thanks.
Hi Martin, I’ve currently got the Ping Gmax, which I love but I do lose distance against the wind but wow downwind different story, I’ve just this minute come back from a fitting of the TS2 I’ve gained 2mph and 12 yards extra distance and a tighter dispersion front to back and side to side. Definitely off miss hits you don’t get punished as much as you would expect. My TS2 is set at 8.75 degrees same setting as yours D4 more upright it’s reduced spin to 2200 and it’s a lower ball flight. I should receive it on Ryder cup day but I’m on holiday until 7th October so it’s something to look forward to when I return, also mine is in the 55g Tensi shaft very happy I’ve made the purchase but I look forward to testing it on my home course. Enjoyable review by yourself just about the right information not to much to take in and well explained.
I have the 917D2 & it’s accurate; looking at the TS heads, the TS3 looks better at set-up to my eye. After all the greed passes over, you’ll be able to find one a lot cheaper than $500... Very nice, informative review...
I just bought the TS3 in an 8.5 loft set at B-1, with a KuraKage 50g S shaft. It's the best feeling driver I can ever recall, and the shaft is so stable and consistent! Having said that, I was surprised at your numbers with a club head speed of 103 mph. I averaged 99-100 mph, and had 240+ yards carry and total distance around 270. When I demoed the club on course I hit several drives over 280 (according to the cart shot link gps). I averaged around 5 degrees angle up at impact, and around 2,100 spin rate. My smash factor average was 1.49. I'd love to have your 103 mph club head speed! I bet you could get some really nice distance if you could get a better angle of attack!
So half an inch on the shaft length means greater clubhead speed means greater distance. Eureka! I like your reviews Martin but you really have to stop being Mr Nice Guy sometime otherwise they become worthless
Interesting comment about the SFW in the shaft. Is that unique to the TS driver stock shaft options? It seems like it made a big difference in correcting your ball flight.
At present it is unique to Titleist stock shafts. It won’t correct every fault as so many other things contribute to the ball going straight, but it can hurt!
Golfalot so of the four main shafts offered do they all have that SFW? Sounds like the new “Made for Titleist” shaft. Bring on the real deal arguments.
Funnily, with an extra 10 yards from this setup, I will wait another 3 generations, get 30 yards and then drop the driver and carry only a 3 wood. Seriously though, where will the "distance war" end?
45 and a half inch driver is Way Way too long.. Seem like every few years they get longer and longer... Crazy. I do like the look of these drivers buy in my opinion a guy average height shouldn't be hitting a driver over 44.5 or 45 at the most. Longer drivers make you stand further from the ball and flattens out your back swing.
correct me if im wrong, but when you said if you put the heavier end of the weight on the heel, it creates a draw, and heavier on the toe, it creates at fade........isn't it the opposite???? I thought more weight in the toe creates the draw.
no weight in the heel as per draw drivers creates the draw we crave, hitting out of the toe uses the gear effect which can also impart draw spin hope thats correct but thats my understanding
I finally tried this last Thursday and I loved the TS3. I gained 5 MPH Ball speed and about 10-15 MPH. Just have to narrow down the shaft. I will get fitted properly for it.
Just got fitted for a TS3 driver and fairway wood. Can't wait. Loved the sound of the driver. Now have to learn how to consistently hit the ball. Ball speed and distance went up and spin went down... Compared to my 917 D3... Happy with my choice!!!!
