Unbelievable that he played for as long as he did. Could have been a special player, killed by injuries. Feel extremely bad for him but proud of him for fighting through the injuries for so long
You want to walk off the court. When you know it's probably your last chance. He's from Texas. Same thing happen to Caron Butler in 2011. Not same injury. Just the reaction to the wheel chair.
TheHuskyK9 lol ppl like you drive me crazy never be able to understand the lvl of sheepness it takes to be like that. Bro cry about your own slave mentality not some rich guy living cozy with a tummy full of pampered cow lol maybe cry about slave camps or ppl dying of hunger not a eating and pooping person you see as an IDOL that takes away from your own existence wtf wake ☝ boy. You play you pay, he payed. Bro thats how life works cry about the ppl that will never have the opportunity to play and pay on what they love because they are born with limitations. I understand appreciation and respect towards another person but i dont get IDOLIZING or being a fan of anyone seeing that in this world makes me kinda sick.
Gun Channel Your so w👀ke my guy, I can't believe how w👀ke you are. No one will ever be as w👀ke as you. I hope you suffer a back injury as severe as this to stay even more w👀ke. Stay w👀ke my friend.
For those you wondering why TJ wasn't on a wheelchair or a stretcher, it is becuase he refused to use a wheelchair or a stretcher, becuase he didn't want a stretcher to be the last image when fans think of him.
Remember when Derrick rose was asked “ who is the only one that can defend you ? This was back in 2010-11 in his mvp year . His response was TJ Ford and at the time drose was one of most unguardable players due to his finishing at the rim . This was also the time when the indiana pacers would always give the bulls trouble those years . Tj was the guy who knew how to stop drose’s drives and unstoppable finishing to the rim . Very good defender tj ford was as well and to be able to stop a young drose and know what his moves and what he was gunna do next and keep up with a guy like drose who was one of the fastest players in the league at that time just shows and makes TJ ford special , TJ could of been a great player as well if it wasn’t for the injuries
TJ was one of the most highly skilled players I’ve ever seen. His speed and vision were incredible. It’s terrible how many injuries he had to deal with, but it’s a blessing he got to showcase his skills in the league.
I almost destroyed my back in a car accident. Im lucky too be alive I couldnt walk for a month i know how this feels. Couldnt help but tear up after seeing this
This is so unfortunate. The risk they put there bodies through every night. And I’m talking about any sport for that matter. Hate to see this. Get better bro!!!
Jared Lewis risks lol. Pay any average Joe millions to bounce a ball. Risk is being a police officers making 50k putting your life on the line daily against thugs
You cant be serious. Its sad and all from his injury standpoint. It will affect the rest of his life. All for the love of basketball. Much respect for that. But never was he ever at any point pre injury the best PG in his age group. Not even in college.
no the story is he played a pickup game like a week before his draft pick and it was with a bunch of football players and to no surprise they were being physically aggresive and one of them hit him on his head and he fell hard and then hit his head on the floor. that paralyzed him for like an hour and fucked up his spine. then it kept happening every time he hit his head. fuckin football players...
I was watching this game on tv when i was 10 and i didnt know how serious this injury was, and i watch it now like dam what a tragic way for a career to end
i’m a lifeguard and have lots of spinal training. they could have just looked at the replay to see the mechanism of injury, then realize that he has trouble walking and follow spinal protocol (collar, backboard immobilization). could’ve saved some damage down the road
This has happened to him 3 times before. He had Congenital Spinal Stenosis. Each time they followed precautions and he went off on a stretcher with c-spine precautions. He refused all precautions this time because he knew he would retire after this one and he wanted to walk off the court for the last time. He took a bit of a risk but you can understand the sentiment.
A clear back spinal injury wen he couldnt walk. Should have been put in a neck brack and back support. What the fuck were those doctors doing???? They should be ashamed
I broke my back in 6 places a decade ago in a car crash. Scariest thing ever not being able to feel your legs. luckily I got feeling back but once you mess your back up it’s over. Life is a little different after that
He told the people bringing out the stretchers to not put him on it, he told them that he didnt want this to be his final image when people bring his name up.
He wanted to walk out. He had so many injures. After that one. He immediately said he wanted to retire. And he didn’t want his last picture in the nba in a scroller
He went with his pride, rather than safety. Pretty dumb really. People actually agreeing with him in the comments with no idea of how to treat injured people. Worried more about the image of him acting like it doesn't affect him, when it clearly is. Either way the last moment of his career would be of him being injured to me. Proving that you can walk off the court means little to me. Would rather them be healthy than have to worry about what other people think of them for it. And being so concerned with how people perceive me that I ignored my own health.
LucidDream Means little to you but who are you? Are you TJ Ford? At the end of the day it's about what it meant to TJ Ford not you or some other people that are not TJ Ford.
some people just type things, than get so worked up and self-involved that they forget what they were typing about in the first place. and that concludes my theory on gravitational waves.
For people who don’t know about his history, he was paralyzed 3 separate times. The first was a pickup game while with Texas when a Longhorns football player was playing the wrong sport and the other two were during a game.
He told the doctors to let him walk becuase he didnt want his kids and brother see him go on a stretcher after his final game, he wanted to show his pride and strength. Just saying
lowkey lies read a story about this. It was actually TJ's desire to walk off the court. He had gone through this same situation many times, but this time he knew he was done playing the game because what it was costing him, so the last image he wanted his sons and brother to see is him walking off the court.
@@cris-oh4pn It doesn't matter what he wanted. They should follow correct medical procedure. He should have been stretchered off. Walking with a potentially serious back injury could lead to paralysis.
Wow! He got hit directly on that spinal bone with an elbow by Baron Davis! What a freak accident! The muscles in that spinal vertebral area had to be extremely weak!
Omar Pasha yes they were very weak. Ford had been suffering from back related problems his whole career and I guess this unfortunately was the last straw
This is why i hate nba, when you’re injured there’s no medical staff helping you unlike in soccer and all they do was asking him to walk when he’s clearly injured what a stupid staff wtf are they doing in there
Bro, he was paralyzed... many people in the crowd and the teams didn’t know because they were too focused on the game... :( A few years before this incident, T.J. was playing with some football players a week before the 2003 NBA draft and got pounded by one of the defenders, he got pounded into the thigh of a player. He laid there motionless for like 20 mins. He got temporarily paralyzed, From that day on the doctors told him that if he got hurt like that again, he could be permanently paralyzed...
AA Sharp Ok, but in a medical situation like this the injured doesn't get to make demands because usually they aren't thinking fully about what has happened to them. Or over estimating their abilities. For instance, I was in a car wreck once and I was asking the person to open my door so I could get out after it all settled. She told me no and it's best that she didn't listen to me because I was completely unaware of the damage to my body. I had a broken foot and I would have just collapsed most likely. Just because he believed he could, doesn't mean it was a good choice. I could have declined the neck brace they put on me, but it's kinda protocol to do some things in treating someone...just to be the safest and limit additional injury. If it really was about his pride, well...pride gets plenty of people killed...it's foolish. You're one to call someone an idiot.
TF is wrong with the NBA? Why are there no stretchers TILL DATE! Only in a few situations do they get stretchers. Otherwise players, coaches and staff help em out!
He suffered a real nasty back injury in Milwaukee early in his career. He spent years coming back just for a chance to play. I dont know how long his comeback was. All it took though was a little rough play by davis trying to get in position for a rebound to cause that. Its real sad concerning fords history. He his going to have a rough life full of sporadic back pain and injuries.
@War Machine "it was JUST a push from the back" then that shouldn't be a foul if that is not something to be done on the court, but it is. If a player is good enough then he doesn't need to push someone just to get hold of a position
