Such an AMAZING talent. I LOVE THAT SOUND! That Magnatone reminds me of the Magnatone (2 of them) DaVinci Amps I had but got destroyed in a fire... Ugh! Mr. T. K. Smith... Perfection defied!
Hey Mark, funny how that works. Hope all's well! I first heard of him from those live recordings of Django playing with the Air Force band, they play a good version of Moten Swing.
Thanks Craig, both really. There's something I hear in the bass notes of thumb pickers that I wasn't hearing in my hybrid picking. Also, using the thumb pick is easier on my wrist.
Lovely playing! I know these pickups are so good for this style of picking, I was wondering if they take a bit of overdrive nicely? They look like high quality build and sound but is there some versatility of sound in there, too? Best wishes from England.
Thanks! Personally, I don't use distortion much. There are a few guys using them with distortion though. Check out JD Mcpherson latest CD, 'UNDIVIDED HEART & SOUL' He's using them on most of the CD, the song Lucky Penny is a good example.
