Here is a semi scattered review video of my thoughts on the 2021 Acura TLX Type S. I also got a bit of my girlfriend's thoughts on it as well! (My main passenger).
What do you guys think? What should I do to the car? Let me know in the comment section!

The driving experience is much more important than the cars actual performance. The Type-S looks great and if you love it, that's all that matters.

I got TLX Type S 3 weeks ago. For me, it is the best car I have driven. Is it the fastest, no. Is it most luxurious, no. It is probably the most perfect balance between luxury and performance. My respect of the car just grows. The best aspect of the car is going around curves. The AWD and how it handles is pretty amazing. The feel of the steering wheel and the vision over the hood is different from the average car. You can tell the engineers really thought this car out from top to bottom. My only complaint is the MPG. I am only getting 20. Right now only 2k cars being produced. From what I heard, 18% of the TLX inventory will be Type S in the long term. So people can hold off about a year and get a better price.
@forevertall
@forevertall 3 года назад
I'm glad the owners of the vehicle all feel the same. MPG = bad, not the most luxury, but man the balance between all of the worlds in one car is amazing. Only 2k models makes it nice and rare, such a great value.

I’m not an TLX owner but I’m curious what is your commute? Is it mostly highway or city driving?
@MrNodeee
@MrNodeee 3 года назад
@@B1ackAlloy1992 I do a mix, probably a little more city than highway (60/40). When I drove about 2 hours on highway, I did get about 25 mpg. But as a whole, it truly has been 19 mpg. A bit disappointing. Like Kergami says, based on the mpg and tank size, I am going to the gas station a little too much. The stick says 19-24 mpg, so I was expecting about 21 combined. Maybe after the engine is broken in, I may see a tiny bump up. Honestly, other than the mpg, the car truly is amazing.

The thing to remember about boosted cars is when you mash that gas pedal it will dump more fuel than non boosted cars. I promise you a naturally aspirated V8 is still worse. I have a 2020 Durango R/T that averages between 12-13 mixed driving yet on the highway I can get 20. I’m planning a trip to Vegas I will post my results coming back. I’m sure I won’t be conservative heading up there…lol

A stinger gt owner here. I mean, really, a lot of people been bashing this car say it's slow or some sort. To me it's just a V6 Turbo sports car that Acura makes that happens to make 355HP. People been looking at this thing in the wrong angle. Great car, very luxurious on the outside and the inside. There are cars making 200hp, the are cars making 400hp and there are cars making 1200hp. If you are just purely comparing the power figure it will never be ending. The most important thing is, as an owner, do you like the car? Is is really what you are looking for and what you need?

People are not looking at it wrong, they're looking at it the way Acura has been advertising it for the past 2 years. Even in the 90s when Acura/Honda were at their peak they seldom dominated their competition in acceleration, braking, etc. (at least on paper) but the overall driving experience and the way everything worked together in harmony provided an intangible driving enjoyment that few car manufacturers could match, especially at equivalent price points. I haven't yet test driven the 2021 Acura TLX but I imagine this is still the case.

Logged 4k miles on the Type S. Overall, love the car. Acura did the work from the bottom up. Shawd, quick-ratio steering, double wishbone suspension, and an aggressive alignment creates a really cool phenomenon when turning (like rear steer). Seating position, interior design excellent, and on the road, few cars look better. Solving the hp/torque problem is 600 bucks away. Jb4 transformed the car and slow will never enter your mind again (10 min install). Have my springs/spacers ordered to complete the car. 2 downsides to me is that you can't program sport+ in the individual mode and when the low fuel light comes on, you have 17 miles til empty.

The Type S’s value proposition is very slept on. To get a similarly equipped fully loaded German counterpart, you’re looking at the high $60s, low $70ks. Also the TLX will hold his resale value MUCH better than the German cars, and pretty much any other car other than a Lexus IS350 or is500. Also, the 2.0 accord can make 400hp with a tune and some bolt ons. I’m sure this 3.0 engine has some serious headroom. The 10AT can reliably hold 500hp, AccordingToJoel has over 100k on his 2.0 accord and has it modded throughout the whole thing.

I have about 2200 miles on mine. I agree with most of your assessments. The Type S was not made to be an absolutely burner. What it is is extremely well-balanced, mixing in impressive proportions of looks, power, handling, tech, safety, reliability and maintenance cost (when compared to German competitors). The looks are amazing and much better than any other car in the class albeit that there is nothing else more subjective than that. I test drove a BMW 340i and am happy I didn’t pay the extra 7k it costs to configure that car with the same tech.

These are cool. Test drove one back to back with a G70 3.3t and immediately, the Genesis impressed me more because it felt much lighter on its feet and the powertrain was more responsive. Also, the interior was more traditionally laid out and easier to use. But, the more I think about it- I like the Acura. For something I'd be driving every day, the Acura more than performs and the styling + stereo + comfort and the fact that I wouldn't be dealing with a Hyundai dealer are all huge wins for the Type S. Make mine tiger eye pearl with the orchid interior.

Easily the most fun, comfortable vehicle I've ever driven. The driving position, seats, and guages are excellent. Sound system quality is excellent. The exhaust note is perfection-a guy just started his M4 next to me and personally I think the tlx sounds way better. Plenty of power, all wheel drive for winter, and a very firm chassis with excellent suspension characteristics. While you could always have more power, this is enough to make everyday driving a blast, and in style.

Thanks for the videos bro, I have a tiger-eye Type S and love it! I get lots of comments when I drive it and believe the car just looks good. YES, turn that collision avoidance off if you are driving in a spirited manner on the highway, I accelerated to merge coming out of the HOV lane and it just braked hard out of nowhere. I almost got rear-ended however I'm pleased to say the problem is resolved now. A forward-facing parking camera would have been great to protect the front lip and avoid parking blocks. I heard that Eibach is working on lowering springs and KTuner is working on a flash tune. The wait is killing me but I heard they are on the way. Regarding speed, it's fast enough to overtake most cars and has enough juice to piss off the Highway Patrol.

Hope you stick around and I plan to put more videos out.

I went down to Acura the other day to check it out. 1) It's not a trackday car, 2) The heaviness helps with the feel of the car- it's not a racecar- it's an TLX, not an NSX, 3) correct on the turbo, 4) hot looks, 5) some people wanted 400hp, but Honda/Acura brought it down for better reliability. My only concern is that it's a new engine- I'm thinking about waiting a year or two, because that's when crap happens in a new engine. Honda/Acura learns from it's mistakes and fixes them. The 2023 or 2024 is what I'm targeting for mine. Nice review, very honest. Good job!

I absolutely love the TLX Type S and am in a position to buy one. However, the one thing holding me back is the terrible fuel economy. I drive about 20k miles per year and even if I average on the high side of it's 19/24 rating, with premium fuel prices hovering around $5.00/gallon with potential to go higher, I would be spending a considerable amount of money on fuel each year. I have definitely reconsidered my purchase. I would love to have one but at the present time I cannot justify buying the Type S from a financial perspective. Maybe in the future things will improve and I will have a change of mind. It is one beautiful car though.

Well, if you have a budget for type s or a spec then you are considering m340i, audi s4, stinger, and coupld others. Yes type s has the worst gas mileage but the others are around 30. That 5mpg diff is really not much per year dollar wise.

@@Rip84LW ya I understand. It does hurt going from 2019 Accord Manuel trans with unleaded gas up to 40mpg during summer and around 36 during winter to now 24mpg premium gas peak during summer lol definitely more cost. And on top of that, SH-AWD adds about 150 bucks differential fluid change to the maintenance every 30k miles on normal usage. Other than that, the service cost is identical to honda cars. But if the gas and other costs is making you hesitant, then definitely not the right car. probs should go for Accord, hyundai sonata, kia K5, or Toyota camry. For car prices as high as they are now, I'd recommend you get Accord or camry cuz their resale values hold up really well. I absolutely loved my manual Accord but it was too good of a chance to trade in a 2yrs old vehicle with 47k miles that I bought for 24k back in 2019 for 26k now. Either way I will end up losing in depreciation Inc market cools down. At the end of the day, if a car just gets you from point A to B then no point in spending more on a luxury car. They are built for handling around corners, so the TLX is perfect to take on a back road or canyon. Gorgeous car, funny thing about the performance is how this vehicle was built with mountain carving in mind. Pit it against its competitors around a twisty road & the story would be different. But looking at the design of the engine & transmission (they’re extremely overbuilt), you could definitely see Acura left a lot of power on the table for reliability sake. Plus, against some of the others different Acura TLX Type-S examples do well or worse for some reason. But let the performance mods begin!
@EgguEd51

It handles great but if Acura wanted to design a canyon carver they should have shed some weight on it, 4200+ lbs is a lot to toss around
@MrSamPhoenix
@MrSamPhoenix 3 года назад
@@EgguEd51 understood, but the numbers don’t lie. It handles better in turns than in all out straight line 0-60mph. Most folks today only know how to point straight & jam the accelerator to floor. In all reviews or shows that the TLX Type-S does ok in a straight line. But in curved roads is where the car truly shines. But alas, folks complaining about the car only know how to race from red light to the next. People today don’t drive for skillful pleasure anymore, but for rollercoaster 🎢 acceleration every few seconds.
@EgguEd51
@EgguEd51 3 года назад
@@MrSamPhoenix yes it handles well, especially for a large heavy car, that seems to be the consensus. However let's not mistake it for a car that will shine at the track. It's a type S not a Type R. It's meant to be more of cruiser/touring type of vehicle
@MrSamPhoenix
@MrSamPhoenix 3 года назад
@@EgguEd51 nobody is confusing the TLX Type-S for a track car. Non of its peers are either to be honest, they’re luxury vehicles with some fun sprinkled in. The TLX Type-S simply shines at curves rather than all out red light acceleration jumps.

I’m in Canada, and we only had 240 shipped here, so even more rare in the North :) Dealer told me they are going to limit each years run to keep them somewhat exclusive, who knows. Acura owner here: Looks like the new Lexus IS500 will give be a better buy if you don't care about AWD handling. That IS500 is about 300lbs lighter and 120 more horsepower and a better powerband. Priced about the same. The Acura Type S handles superior, gets about 1-2mpg better, and turbos will keep this car's power feeling the same in high elevation. After looking at the two I'd go with the Lexus in addition to having a proven bullet proof engine & transmission. I've always owned honda and acura and so has my family, but I think I'd give the nod to the IS500 if were comparing rivals.

it’s good to know i was not the only person with connectivity issues. being an iPhone user, the Infotainment system in my 2021 TLX A Spec kept disconnecting, along with a weird audio issue that was piercing my ears. after 20,000 miles on the car, being only 11 months old, I had to replace the Infotainment system; the sunlight sensor was freaking irritating, because it kept coming loose and the rattling drove me nuts. This type of quality is unacceptable from Acura, and it was not worth the $52,000. I ended up trading it, because i got tired of taking it in every few weeks to fix things that shouldn’t of been breaking in a car that was only 11 months old 🙄.
