@Lostcause1974
@Lostcause1974 5 лет назад
DMVs aren't creating a culture of safety. If they want to focus on safety, unlimited GOALs. They should allow as many pull ups in a ratio to trailer size. 53 ft trailer / half or more. 1 GOAL and 1 Pull Up just add unnecessary stress and are not realistic. I spent the last 4 weeks doing backing manuevers from 8AM until 6PM, an extra pull up or two prevents stress, increased accuracy/confidence and decreased cones hit. Better to measure 10 times and cut once...

A lot of those real drivers knows exactly what he’s going through, nobody’s born a super trucker in this industry and know everything there is to know about backing a truck. We’ve all been there before and whenever I see a rookie I’m not going to rush him, just pull out my brakes, and let them do their thing if they’re with a trainer, if they’re solo I’ll hop out and help. Axel, if you put a mountain dew bottle 10 feet in front of the tarp, he wouldn't end up too far to the left side. All you have to do is back around with the front trailer axle. I would do that myself sometimes , just so I would know for sure where the trailer is in relationship to the hole. He did a great job, and number of backs don't count anymore, but the number of hits do! So many people worry about how long/how many backs, hey backs are free, hitting someone is what costs.

Bill 777 I’m a new driver. I try to take my time backing and do my get out and looks, but these older drivers be about ready to fight if they think I’m taking too long 🤷🏽‍♂️ Backing a split axel in a tight truck stop spot can be stressful!! 😂

@@justmyperspective7430 they can either run up and get done up, or they can wait. Either way, i aint gonna worry with them. For real, number of pull ups and goals don't count against you in the real world, number of hits do. Gotta protect yourself, driving record, and not some impatient asshat who can't understand everybody isn't a pro right out of the gate.

Meanwhile while he's getting in and out of the truck he's got about eight other trucks backed up waiting for him to back it in

that's the downside to him getting in and out all those times... HOWEVER... at least he won't be one of those dudes on those "trucker parking fail" vids ripping off the front bumper of his neighbors truck

You're a good instructor. Most instructors care less if you can park at my company.

what is the reason for dumping the air while backing up ?
@DRTY3RD
@DRTY3RD 4 года назад
Sharper turning radius--or backing radius, lol. Spread axle trailers don't turn or corner near as true as closed tandems due to the friction on that front axle; the pivot point is actually on the rear axle. Dumping the air on the rear axle puts the pivot point on the front axle to help shorten the radius--but if you're not careful you can cut a corner too sharp. I ran with TMC for four years; haven't had a dump axle valve since, but when I did have one it did save my behind a few times.

I was wondering the same thing I’ve never had a dump valve for the trailer

Making my eyes bleed. 11 years ago I worked for TMC for over a year. Learned a couple of things about them. Pay sucks, 65mph is in human and I never wanted to see another tarp in my life. Also spend hours and hours waiting to load steel. I switched to reffers. No touch, good pay and very little waiting. Also, TMC like Swift, Warner, Cr England and a few others is mostly new drivers. Ya gotta earn your stripes somewhere though. But I would recommend a dry van or refer company. Tarping in high winds or the dead of winter is a killer.

Same here.I did flatbed for 20 yrs.Moved to Tanker.Its more intimidating to drive because of the surge,but I make way more money,and don't work as hard.
