Mullings on target for a great year. Reminds me of Hassan Haskins. HARD runner, dependable, go-to RB. I'm so happy for him and the whole team. Props to the offense and that final drive...Go Blue
I still don't know how we won this game, but the boys gutted it out. So proud of this team. It seems the O-line might be starting to put things together and the D did a GREAT job keeping everything close. GO BLUE!!
They "gutted" it out - that's how we won... A game of two halves... Oline definitely made strides... Kalel is showing he's currently RB1... Def did enough... QB is still a ?... I jus hope injuries aren't serious... Go BLUE 〽️
📢 LISTEN UP 〽️! 4th & goal w/seconds left & they run up the gut. This was exactly the way 〽️🏈 needed to win a big game. They beat #11 who was favored to win.
Yeah 32 yd passing is not sustainable for victories going forward. Obviously second half USC made their adjustments and shut Michigan down for the most part except for one big run at the end. We need a quarterback who can actually throw the ball! Duh
This win was due to running butt. O be the Ohio state, other teams. You'd better get a quarterback and we need one in a hurry. This guy can't throw the ball. It hasn't shown it and they stacked a line to stop the run. We gotta have a Passing game of some sort.
It’s still unbelievable that a program as big as Michigan can’t have just an average NCAA QB. Mind blowing. Can’t be that hard with near endless resources and a gigantic brand.
JJ was a unicorn. Most kids these days are just too selfish. They don’t want to go to a school where they hand the ball off to the RB. They all think they’re going to the NFL, so they want to sling it all over the yard. It takes a special type of player/person who’s selfless and team first. That was JJ and appears to be Jadyn Davis.
He will be there feature back from here on out but dont think 295 rush yards is gonna happen every week they havr to figure out a passing game real quick that was a middle of the road defense and michigan has to clean up turn overs or your defense wont keep you in games they dont have depth like last year
@@donaldcoulter6315I would. Haskins had a more mature and superior O-line. Imagine if Mullins had that! He is making something out of nothing on some of these plays.
Imagine being Donovan. He sat behind Corum last year and thought he was gonna be RB1 this year and nope. Mullings is clearly the better RB. We still need The Don to break some big runs and be a receiving threat out of the backfield.
I seriously hate how they take one off the field for the other to come on. Edwards and Mullings should be on the field at the same time at all times. Both are home run threats and it spreads the defense out.
Everyone keeps saying what did Orji do well. What he did was create a diversion or distraction from the defense of USC to create a little bit bigger holes or create enough time for our RBs to get thru the holes. Play wise Orji didn't do anything but he kept USC defense off balance enough to get big runs. Now if the coaches give Mullins 20 plus carries a game and split Dono out then it will also open up more but coaches need to figure that out
@richardfrench2863 okay but you have to look at the bs plays that were being called. No real RPO plays mostly Pro style hand-off plays. You need RPO and a lot of it. Make the defense make decisions. That's how the Big runs happened in the first half. OC abandoned it and got real vanilla
@@25thatguythank you somebody that pays attention and on a lot of those plays orji could’ve pressed it trying to do too much he tucked it and lived another day ..def good work he can throw slants screens and crossers just gotta get separation
Can't wait to see Al B. Sure breakdown this offensive film. That 3rd and 3 when Orji got sacked the WR routes were doomed to fail. 1 player could've guarded those 3 bunch formation receivers all crossing at 5 yrds.
I think we're gonna look back and say this was a good game for Orji's first start. The O-line is still figuring things out, and the USC defense is a good one to build experience with being a pretty average D. If Michigan can keep the pace of running plays up, the experience will eventually pay off.
@@michaelc.sobczyk9100he had no turnovers so what he litterally managed the game and can only get better passing with more time this is his first career Start
Put Donavan in the slot , mullings in the backfield. I like bredeson but when he’s in he tips it to run. It would help if they passed it to him to make it more unpredictable to run/pass.
@@michaelc.sobczyk9100you’re making my point. Teams are gonna look at film and gameplan and Because orji passing game is so immature he needs every player possible as a receiving threat that can be. No harm in passing to bredeson every once in a while to give teams something to think about.
Bredeson is the best blocking TE/FB - when he goes in motion or is set, that strongly suggest there the point of attack will be - totaly agree. Edwards need to used more as a receiver - it isn't as if this wasn't done in the past - two years against Maryland he was very effective.
Yes Yes Yes Yes Yes!!!! I keep on saying this. Donovan in the slot would give us so much more in offense. He needs to receive the ball as well. He is fast in the open field once he gets open. If he causes a man to miss then it would be to the house.
It's not as simple as moving a guy to WR. Just because he's an athlete doesn't mean he can run routes. With that being said, Edwards should definitely be used as a Percy Harvin/Braxton Miller/Deebo Samuel type
The thing that happened is what I have been saying. Orji CANNOT throw the ball. Everyone was wondering why Orji didn't get the start, well he cannot throw and they thought Warren could throw and they could still run without Orji. I wondered how bad could Orji be at throwing the ball? Well we got the answer.
That win was pure grit. The D and Kalel won that game. Kalel is RB1, no way around it, and we CAN NOT win going 4ward with 32 yds passing. Can not. GO BLUE! GREAT TEAM WIN!
Also if big old Kenneth Grant would have just fallen on the ball instead of trying to pick it up and run with it The game pretty much would have been over also
How many of you were losing your minds on that 2nd and goal pass play? Why man. We were RUNNING ALL OVER THEM. It didn't need to be a 4th down prayer. All you had to do is avg 1 YPC and we were in easily. Instead we give Orji the opportunity to have hero syndrome and throw a near-pick to the corner of the endzone? Why, why, why.
That ball was essentially thrown away. There was no chance of an interception. The play call sucked, but I thought a passing play made sense in that situation.
It’s because they are so confident in Mullings / run game that afforded them 1 pass attempt. If it was successful it would of quited some of the no pass game criticism / given Orji confidence. If it failed they knew they could still run it in next play which is what they did-good call.
Orji is not perfect by no means, but this is the team we thought we'd have this year. I am praying for our QB to keep getting better and stay healthy. 🙏. No turnovers from our QB, I'll take that.
Who is JD? They were talking about best corner since woodson and the guy said he gives JD his props and I'm trying to think who the heck is JD. I still put Ty law up there in my top 5 all time and maybe I'm taking his pro career into account but I remember going to his games and Ty was that dude. Gosh Michigan has had some darn good DB'S
Orji is a great kid but we need a QB who can pass period. . this teams faith is what won this game I pray we figure out this QB problem soon hope Jack Tuttle is ready to go soon.
This is a great win for Michigan, it’s a game they won in spite of their coordinators. Especially Kirk Campbell. They had Alex Orji in shotgun way too much, and with only one back. That makes it very easy for any opponent to diagnose what play is coming. Michigan should be using two backs all game, rotating in 3 to 4 backs to keep guys fresh. And I’d have Orji under center virtually all the time, doing RPO and play action much more frequently. But it’s a great win, the coordinators have a long way to go when it comes to in game adjustments.
But for the defense balling out today USC wins going away; this is NOT complementary football and not sustainable; playing Orji without a heavy RPO offense is incompetent offensive playcalling.
lol coming into Saturday USC was giving up half the rushing yards per game that Illinois was 😅😅😅 what are you saying ? Just like the run game got better the pass game will improve it’s not like we threw the ball alot. We need a win this game more than to work on our passing game
Sam is right. This was a very positive step for the offense, but if they don't develop some sort of competent passing game they won't win the B1G, beat Oregon or Ohio State. It was a great game and I'm thrilled they won, but they were very fortunate and a formula where you only throw 12 times is not sustainable. Also, the defense played great yesterday, but I am still not convinced Wink Martindale is the right guy. During the broadcast Jon Jansen and Jason Avant were clearly frustrated with the personnel packages he used at critical points of the game, like pulling the entire starting DL on 3rd down deep in Michigan territory with the lead on the line which resulted in an easy TD for USC. This happened several times. I get giving guys a rest, but there is a time for that but plays which could determine the outcome of the game is not one of them. One last thought. I hope Sherone Moore learned from his "Pete Carroll Moment" on 2nd and goal. Jeez....
I have to say the reason Mich win was USC defense had a tough time with Mullings. I have to give USC credit they made great adjustments and they were a different team in the 2nd half. Mich has a lot of work to do in the passing game but Loveland I believe was a huge reason for the passing game being the way it was. Moore was wide open on a play CBS showed on replay he was HOT. He cooked his man on a stop and go rout bad on 3rd down play 2nd to last possession in the 4th Q. LOL
Being balanced means having a variety of ways of getting the ball to a variety of playmakers. Short toss plays, check-downs, wheel routes, slants, end arounds, screen passes, reverses, etc., etc. all create a balanced attack. You don’t absolutely need a mid and long range pass game to be balanced. Orji is the right man for Michigan now. The crybabies who don’t like him, who think Michigan should have gone into the portal, don’t understand Michigan’s SMASH philosophy. USC stacked the box and couldn’t stop the run game. Go Blue! Go Alex!
Name one wide receiver that would want to come to Michigan if there are any good? Answer, none. Why would a wide receiver want to come to Michigan if we can't throw the ball because we don't have a quarterback or a head coach or an offensive coordinator who doesn't call passing plays
Glad for the victory. I do not understand the play calling on either side of the ball. I'll chalk the offensive play calling up to the fact that throwing the ball just isn't an option but the defensive play calling is just bad. And wasn't the LB transfer from Maryland supposed to be a game changer? He looks lost on every play.
I definitely think this should be a 3 RB offense. Kalel RB1a, Donovan RB1b and Ben Hall giving them a breather here and there. I have too much faith and respect for what Donovan has done over the years - on and off the field- to put him on the bench now. He has to be used as an offensive weapon with both him and Kalel on the field together because it will pay huge dividends when we need him most down stretch. Gutsy win. Go Blue!
If you get a chance look over the very limited pass plays called, we left 2 touchdowns on the field today. 1 play Morgan literally had 15 yards of open field all around him. No passing game = no playoff.
Haskins was a linebacker that became a dominant RB. Mullings was a linebacker turned dominant RB. Maybe every U-M running back should spend a year at LB. If Michigan continues only sending two receivers downfield there is no way Orji will ever complete many passes. No QB in the country can force the ball into triple coverage all day. The few times somebody was open he hit them. No matter what the Wolverines accomplish fans and media obsessively nit-pick every play and swear "they can never beat OSU that way" even though they have three seasons in a row. R-E-L-A-X and enjoy a great win for one week, folks.
Orji is still not enough. Teams will game plan for this now and I don’t know if it’s sustainable for the rest of the year. Not one pass completed beyond a 5 yard throw. Not hating on Orji by any means, I just think they need a better passer and still emphasizing the run game and using play action
Tuttle is the answer, Warren can’t get out of his way, Orji can’t throw period or the coaches don’t trust him 1% to throw a real pass. Tuttle is the guy
Put Tuttle in and the run game diminishes because he’s not a threat l. Also it’s clear the team plays better with Orji at qb, maybe put Warren/Tuttle in for 3 and longs but trying to do what we did first few games again is a mistake, we don’t have good WRs. Accept we’re 1985 team this season until Jadyn is ready to start next season
@@chimaHD1With that defensive performance today Michigan should have won by 21 but they are so one dimensional right now. I’m not a FB guru but I’ll add my arm chair opinion The advantage with Orji is that the defense has to account for his running ability….correct? What if you put Edward’s and Mullings in the back field at the same time with a QB that can throw. Now the defense will have to account for 2 runners and the pass along with the occasional QB scramble
Mullings is playing at Curom's level yet this bozo coaching staff treated him like he was just a guy. A guy to give DE a blow to rest up for his next 2 yard run. Edwards, tbh, is not even an average back the way they are using him. What other egregious roster errors are they making?
Him not throwing the football is not an impact of him not playing the first three games. Him not throwing the football is a product of what he can and cannot do. He's been there for 3 years and the coaches know what he can't do and it's obvious that they don't trust him to throw the ball. He almost threw a pic in the End zone if you recall
A lot of Orji’s misses were places only his guy could have gotten it. Those are acceptable incompletions imo compared to Davis Warren’s incompletions being a turnover
"Told us so"??? After USC took the lead it seemed like if there was less time on the clock we would have seen Warren for a two minute drive. Essentially, we have become the Army offense. We fall behind the chains and we're done. We literally passed for 30 yards a game. You cannot sustain that in the Big Ten.
Coaching staff needs to run the wish bone. They did their self, no favors being terrified to pass, and it makes no sense. A run extra heavy offense is not going to cut it. Sam, you know what I am saying is gold! Michigan is going to lose recruits in the wr room it's coming, so get ready. Scared play calling 😊gets the program no where simply horrible!
The OC is not giving orji even a shot to be a passer giving him 2 routes a pass play is diabolical hell if that’s what you gonna mustard up id rather go with the freshman and just take our lumps as they come to get him experience this is a disservice to AO and he’s such a good kid but Michigan is giving him a raw deal if almost willing to bet AO will absolutely not be at Michigan Next yr and it’s sad cause he has so much untapped potential
Why do you think the OC does that? My guess is that in practice he has shown his inaccuracy if you can’t throw in practice how can you do it in a game with 4 300lb+ dudes breathing down on you?
@michaelc.sobczyk9100 it's never always going to be that way for any team, ever. A win is a win, and if they know we are running the ball but can't stop it, then what are they gonna do?
Wink did an excellent job today. I’m gonna have to double check but I don’t think he made many mistakes or questionable calls on 3rd downs, it was more of player mistakes in the secondaries and a couple like backer missed tackles that hurt us.
Mullings avg ypc outside of his two longs runs - 2.87ypc; Edwards outside of his one long run - 2.54ypc; don’t try to convince me Orji just bring out there vastly improves our running game - BS. If you are going to play Orji then for God’s sake implement RPO
This can be said for so many great running backs. Just shut up. They won multiple time on 3rd and 4th and short. Some plays are designed to only pick up 1 to 2 yards. You are not a ball knower
Alex affected the run game and the way that was able to be shut down for the second half with 6 yards up until the last 2 minutes? Sam, your delusional if you think this is sustainable going forward for victories
Put… Donovan… at.. got.. damn.. wideout… at least SOME… I mean yeah we gotta let Alex throw it down the field. But they weren’t letting Davis either. The question is, who in the blue hell does Alex have to throw it TO down the field. Campbell better effin figure out somebody.
