I remember as a kid I had the toy of Wingnut and for a long time I didn't know he was actually a character in the 1987 TMNT cartoon 😅😂 the plot of that episode was probably copied from an old horror or sci-fi B-movie anyway, just in order to introduce Wingnut & Screwloose as characters and sell their toys to kids
Man...I love the cartoon, but they so murdered the Hell out of most of the characters created by Ryan Brown. They are all WAAY better in the Archie TMNT comics.
As a kid I never realized what a toy making machine TMNT was.... all my favorite action figures I see now were just in a single episode and were only in the show for that reason! Amazing that this business model worked for so long!!!

Much as I love the original series, some of the mutants I REALLY hate how they were handled. Meanwhile, the Archie comics had the perfect origin for the characters, lone survivors of a planet that was attacked by Krang, displaced from time and space by Cudley the Cowlick. Wingnut driven mad with grief, vandalizing every building's skylight believing Krang to be hiding in one of them. I don't know about the original toy, but the 2023 reproduction figure actually uses that origin on the collectible info card. Also kinda like the 2012 version being 60's Batman and Robin, manifesting out of a comic book. This one seemed generic. I also really didn't much care for Ray Fillet's cartoon origin.
