This is incredible. I think this is how everyone remembers the original in their mind. It remains true to the original while improving the visual presentation massively in several places. For example, during the initial fight with the diesels, in the original, the F unit just kinda speeds in frontif the Mohawk in a very weird way. Here, this is changed so that the 2 diesels that grabbed 3124's friend actually drag them into 3124's way, basically using him as a human shield to stop the Mohawk. This not onlh flows much better, but also greatly helps characterise both 3124 as someone who cares about his friends, and the diesels as cold and heartless. The scene between that and the scrapyard sequence is notably improved. Where before it was a weird filtered slow framerate b&w game footage of a few diesels pulling a freight trains, this combiantion of impressive archive foorage of real Mohawks, with the blacked out shadown of 3124 being towed to the scrapyard in a freight consists (which is also properly depicted, with a gondola on either side acting to reduce the effective weight on track of the train for transport over lighter rails). It massively improves the flow of the episode. Theres very few things I'd change, perhaps adding back in a shot during the scrapyard sequence where the coaches are clealry focused on, like in the original, redo the scene where the Mohawk passes the diesel on the bridge to be more similar to the original (the camera is a bit too low here, and doesnt portray the sense of speed), maybe show the engines whistling as 3124 passes the station instead of just closeups of their whistles. Beyond that, theres nothing here to complain about. This is pretty much perfect. If you ever make a remake of the rest of the series, I'll be on that shit like... i dont even know.

For anyone who may be curious: The actual name of the story and book by author David P. Morgan is “The Mohawk That Refused to Abdicate”. The story is actually one of 33 in the book that was compiled from articles from Trains magazine and this one in particular was about L-3a Mohawk #3005 and her crew on a freight run. The book/story was actually dedicated to all railroad members who aided their search for steam in the 50’s and a special mention and dedication to the engineer of the 3005. The book contains a multitude of other stories and I HIGHLY highly recommend that if a library or friend has it to borrow it or if you see one for sale to buy it and read the book and let others borrow it and read it. Morgan’s writing style is captivating and although I cheated and read “The Mohawk That Refused to Abdicate” story first I highly recommend reading the other stories that lead up to it first. Nevertheless this series was an iconic staple as a kid and this is a wonderful remaster with the newer assets

Alright, this hit. I've got a model of 3124 because of the original, and this brought back some nostalgia.

A remake well-deserved, I was hoping somebody would do this someday and I'm glad to say this exceeded my expectations, hope the other five episodes are intended to be made, but if not then this is enough
