This is a rather pivotal event within the Red Iris timeline, as it sets up the handling of the Estonian-Russian War, the twin nuclear attacks on American soil during said war, Etruria, and the depressing decision to drop fuel air bombs on specific American centers of population to later control it at its height.
President Serenity Llewellyn, a social democrat representing the progressive wing of the Democratic Party, finds herself at a seat of power due to a tragic series of events. Originally meant as a vice presidential candidate meant to draw the attention of the 18-35 demographic and as a show of support to a rapidly growing progressive base by the actual candidate Phillip Brook in the '20 elections, all hell breaks loose when Washington D.C. is struck by a thermobaric terrorist attack, destroying much of the city but leaving the government intact.
However, the shock of seeing this causes Phillip Brook to suffer a fatal heart attack, and then Vice President Serenity Llewellyn ends up as the 47th President of the United States, and faced with a nation still undergoing a socioeconomic crisis.
This is also why I went with a dissonance by having funeral bells and rain in the background, despite having The Red Flag (a prominent social democratic anthem) playing in the background.
