This is an impressive scene between Doctor and Ebal. and I thought that this Ebal's words reminds me Kurt Vonnegut's "Mother Night ". In this novel's beginning there is a phrase : " I simply happen to know what it is: We are what we pretend to be, so we must be careful about what we pretend to be". I guess Noah Hawley used it for homage.
Ebal is certainly right about one thing, he can pretend to be something he's not. These scenes between him and the good Doctor make him seem like one of the more level-headed and sympathetic of the Fadda syndicate. By the end, however, he is something of a snake in the grass, totally backstabbing Loy and taking over.
I wouldnt really say Ebal was a snake. He just got tired of all the shit he had to put up with, because of the Fadda's. He realized that families are no longer sufficient to serve as a basis for the model by which a syndicate should operate. Sibling rivalries, gaining power through inheritance and not competency only brought chaos and destruction. He was also appointed by New York.
Ebal doesn't make decisions. The Cosa Nostra does. He answers to them and only them. The Italian Mobs just simply got sick of dealing with Loy and simply told Ebal to take over Loy's business and make them working for the Italians. Kind of like how the black syndicates operated in Harlem from the 50s to 70s.
A true Italian would never put his hat on the table - it's very unlucky. "Chiama il morto". And of course, very unhygienic in the old days when everybody had lice.
The woman in the background is wearing a period costume at the start of the scene. After a closeup of the daygo she is wearing a Chewbacca Mom shirt . Poor editing clumsy directing
And do you have proof it was not done deliberately? Or do you just have a habit of finding evidence for your conclusions instead of the honorable and intelligent way?
