I have heard these speakers as part of the Rega system one , and was really impressed by how good the whole kit sounded and a very good deal for just under a £1000 in the UK .

I think turntables, cd transports and amps are all strong from Rega, but these speakers were terrible as were many of their rs series speakers, when I heard them at a U.K. show and when I was trialing Rega speakers. The kyte with the 1000 turntable system. Buying a speaker or active system from a audiophile or pro audio brand missing the TT was the way to go and it stood out how average these kytes are. I thought the system lacked dynamics and detail and it was bland hifi.

I bought a pair of the new Rega Kytes based on Steve G's review and he was spot on! They sound spectacular with energy, clarity, speed, rhythm and dynamics that are just way too good for only $795 a pair.. Rega is onto something here with this new cabinet design of the Kyte as it gives the speaker life and a wide open soundstage that's very engaging... great job Rega!

@davidlima8194
@davidlima8194 2 года назад
@@13thnotehifireviews7 I owned a pair of the Emit 20's but sold them and got Dali Rubicon 2's, which were more $ and much better than the Emits. I also liked the comparatively priced Dali Opticon 2's better that the Emits. The original Emits are way overrated in my opinion; maybe the recently redesigned new Emits are better? The Kytes are on par with old Emits I had and to me the Kytes sound livelier with more energy and musicality. Plus, I only paid $599 for new open box Kytes and can tell you they are very enjoyable and well worth the money... thanks!

I am a Rega fan and the company should be lauded for making a full line of components (in the U.K. no less) of exceptional quality. They even make some of their own speaker drivers, which is something that many loudspeaker specialty companies cannot say. That being said, there is a lot of competition at the $800 price point. I have not heard this particular model but my experience with Rega speakers in the past is that their balance is a bit lean or thin in the midrange. I would agree with your assessment that they need to be partnered with warm electronics (such as their own) to sound good. The Kyte appears to be a decent loudspeaker (Rega does not make anything that is bad) but I would probably only consider the Kyte if I had limited space and wanted to have an all-Rega system.

Steve, I just want to say I LOVE this channel!!!! By the way, I just got my Elac Unify Reference speakers a few days ago and am really happy with them. I’m using an NAD integrated amp from 2005. 150w/ch. I use the pre out to feed an 8” Audio Engine sub to fill in the lowest bottom end. So far, I am truly enjoy these Elacs a lot!!! I got rid of my Focal Chora 806 speakers ($990). Loving the Elacs!!! Hard to believe such sound comes out of those small boxes. And they are a great price at $600.

For £50 extra, Rega also makes a pair of much more substantial metal feet for these. Ostensibly these are for better stand mounting, but I have found that they also improve the bass stability when the Kytes are used on a bookshelf.

Listening to my old Rega Naos this morning. Transmission lines. I notice the Kyte (not by Linn) continues their traditional paper cone driver eschewing dust cap. Had a pair of the original Mission 700’s back in the late 70’s/early 80’s which were fast and exciting with no bottom end but gave me listening fatigue so I changed them up for a pair of AR925 floor standing which weren’t as bright. I have since bought better speakers and other high end equipment and I would say I love my set up now but I have never encountered that speed again so I will have to give these a try. I now have the facility to use several pairs of speakers in my listening room that I didn’t have all those years ago so should that fatigue crop up again I could switch to a warmer pair. Perhaps I am searching for something that no longer exists though as I am aware as we get older our hearing does deteriorate and I am getting on a bit now!

@@keplermission4947 Yeah I figured you wouldn’t respond. I watched the video in its entirety, including some parts twice. When Rega uses an unorthodox manufacturing method like this it’s usually for a reason. And even if that reason is cost savings you would normally expect them to be quite articulate in explaining what, if any, trades off they see. They are not known as a budget brand, and while not the highest of high end, this kind of product is a bit odd for them. Steve says nothing about it. Hence my question. And what does shipping weight have to do with it? Here’s one simple example: Neodymium magnets weigh far less than conventional but are costlier and stronger. Shipping weight would be much lighter vs an inferior magnet. I see you didn’t really read my question, you just wrote an idiotic response.

@@edd2771 I think the reasoning behind the cabinet is basically to reduce the manufacturing costs, but without compromising sound quality. It’s impossible to make a conventional cabinet in the UK and compete at this price. Rega does like to innovate and I admire them for it. Personally they don’t appeal and I’d probably rather buy one of the many used / vintage British-made gems that are still available pretty cheaply here in the UK. In fact I have, since my main speakers are some lovely old Tannoy Eatons. But I guess that’s not really the point and the Kite gives them the opportunity to offer a complete new system at around £1000, UK manufactured and of pretty good quality.

Rega is about low mass, low energy storage right? Surprising the Altec Lansing brand hasn’t been revived with all the love for retro stuff. Of course they would have to be made in the Far East to not cost an arm and a leg. Or the drivers could be made overseas and then put together in Mexico. Not the most even comparison. $1,100 vs $700. VS the Klipsch HP600 ? So what do you really think? Translated you will be flying this kite out asap.

what pride does it carry to have something made in a first world country? seems audiophiles have an affinity with that idea.

Yes, but I’m assuming Chinese people take pride in the best Chinese designed and manufactured products. And likewise UK citizens take pride in UK designed.and manufactured products. Am I missing something?

So...$800 for a pair of these Regas that are scarcely larger than an encyclopedia, while Magnepan LRS go for $650 a pair. Am I missing something here? Nothing at all against Rega---I own a P6 turntable---but come on. Who would prefer these Regas over the LRS?

I understand what your saying and sorta agree but some folks can't accomadate Maggie's no matter how cheap they are. In small rooms where speakers need space ( Maggie's do need space all around them to sound best) Maggie's would not be a good choice. I nice high quality bookshelf or monitor and perhaps a small rel sub would be hard to beat. If you had the space and on a budget, yeah Maggie's and a sub would be my choice.

@@brandonburr4900 You are right of course, but my argument was not about convenience but about sound reproduction--- all of those things audiophiles look for in a speaker. I have owned Maggies for 40 years in all sorts of rooms. I have always been able to fit the room to the Maggie. Bookshelf speakers, no matter how gaudy, expensive or well built, cannot in any way compare in presence, soundstaging, imaging and so on to the LRS. An LRS in a tiny room would sound better than the Regas in a tiny room. My guess would be that a man who buys the Regas is being nagged by his wife. The old "wife acceptance factor" dodge. If you are an audiophile who is as well a henpecked husband, move into the garage.

@@mikeaustin3485 thanks for the reply. I have always bought a set of Maggie's on many occationtions. I love how you can move the smaller ones around when not in use but I had to keep bringing myself back down to reality with not having enough space behind them and to the side in my small room. Yeah those speakers are not to popular with the significant other for sure...but honestly what speakers really are? Lol. Perhaps the nicer looking wood trimmed Maggie's of the past would be better lol. Another thing with trying Maggie's is shipping them and worrying about damage. All Maggie' boxes are big. Perhaps someday I will have a pair!

@@brandonburr4900 I have been lucky in that my significant others have never complained about the Magnepans. (And it would not have mattered if they had.) My last girlfriend was herself an audiophile, owning a pair of 3.7s. I have bi-amped 3.3s pulled far from the back wall, which is covered with Japanese screens. My sidewalls are bookcases. Incidentally, I bought my Maggies when I lived in Argentina, shipped them to the US and stored them for a year, used them for two years here in Oklahoma, then shipped them to Magnepan to get refurbished, who then shipped them back. They should last until I die.

Rega should stop dipping their toes in the RU-vid review train waters with their entry level products. Want to see reviews of the Aethos etc.

@@SteveGuttenbergAudiophiliac Rega Aethos in the house.. Hands down the best amp I’ve ever had here. It’s just… wow! Engaging, open but smooth, powerful but with flow and delicacy. Sounds larger than life, full and engaging even at low volumes. Very class A like. Rega should send you one ;-)

@@JEG6919 Says someone who has never heard them and buys on the basis of spec sheets. Rega has been making speakers for many years and even makes some of the drive units which is something that cannot be said of many "speaker manufacturers".
