Making Better Charcloth. Does it Really Matter What Type of Material Used in Your Firestarter Kit or do you need to use a special tin to make it.
Results: Cotton or thicker denim is best, and any tin will work, you don't need to wait for a special tin to start charring material.
Real GWG or LEVI vs. FAUX Denim, test your source, I should have tested my focus button:)
This is what I learned today, I am no expert, I did prepare the material under the same conditions as many others but I discovered what really matters before you plan on building a kit.

Thanks Steve, I didn't have the fancy can with the metal lid to try it in but the foil in homemade can worked great to try this out, lessons learned

@@NatureInspiredSnipsnSnaps , I like just about everything you do except for The boating and Skiing . Unless we are fishing from the boat or hunting using Ski to get there , I started 2 for Tuesday where I make 2 Fires , one with Flint and Steel , then one with Fat Wood and a Nathan4071 Ferro Rod ,

Thank you my friend, good idea, many a fire in the ole days back in eastern provinces were started with a piece of tire, with the strips it would definitely work well in damp weather for sure.

That's good information, char cloth is something I've been planing to make , I was looking for a particular type tin can with a lid .... you just made me realize I can use any tin can not just a little flat one with a lid lol ....ill use the little pocket size candy tin to store it lol.

Yes it worked well I did not have a lid or fancy tin. I also stored the char in old plastic copenhagen containers once cooled works well. If waited for real tins I would never have tried lol plus smoke was more visible this way too.

@@NatureInspiredSnipsnSnaps yeah it makes total sense .... I felt a "little not smart" when I saw what you did lol. I said omg why didn't I think of that , it's a tin can the shape doesn't matter lol. THANKS for hitting me over the head and see the light lol. Have a great weekend my friend.

I have charred so many different clothes, denim, corduroy, terry cloth, canvas and tee shirts. Out of all of them, the tee shirts work the best and is the most consistent!

I thought I would try this denim that was given to me but never thought about what it was made of, so definitely need to choose something more like cotton tshirts, it ended up packing in my container like chew it wasn't moist just appeared the same look
