Tbh this topic was so difficult to talk about. Also I needed the courage to talk about my past as well. However, I believe that this video will help some people. Some people might agree with my opinion and some people might not. But that doesn't matter. What is important is that we have to live in a cruel world, and how to protect our mental health in that world. I think that your suffering is much more painful than I can imagine. So no matter what I say here, it will sound cheap. The answer lies within yourself, and as I said in this video, I believe that it's better to think about what you can do now to satisfy yourself in the future. Exactly when it's happening, we can't be in a mood to move on but once the timing comes, I hope you can move forward. P.S We'll have Italian and Portuguese subtitles soon

Hey Hitoki, thank you for this video. Truth is, I've been waiting to enter Japan for studies and work for 2+ years now. I even left a pretty good job in London because I was ready for my next step in life and since my goal is to become fluent in Japanese I thought this is the right decision for me. Now more than 2 years later, I am still in my country, living with my parents again and I am still waiting from the Japanese government to finally announce something. It's been really hard on my mental health, really hard on my personal life as well, since I can't really find a job or a place to live, as I don't know for how long I will continue to stay in my country... And generally feels like my life is put on pause for all this time. It's my dream to live in Japan and I don't wanna let it go. I continue studying every day but I just know I will never quite get there until I move there and start talking with the people. Sorry for the long post. I do have a lot more to say, on how the government has been treating us over the past 2 years... But... Anyway, Also wanted to thank you for your videos. I use them to practise my reading, speaking and listening abilities. And I deeply appreciate your work. 🙏🙏🙏

I empathise with this so much. Ive also been waiting patiently in the UK. I've hit a roadblock with Japanese and whilst I think I can't improve much until I finally move there, I'm finding other ways to prepare for my move there. Also I recently started using Italki with a teacher based in Japan which has been a great help. Hang in there and let's have fun learning whilst we wait 🙏🏼

As someone who had been planning to visit Japan this year ever since I was little, I really needed to hear this ^^ My current plan might be cancelled, but now I can just take even more time to get more comfortable speaking Japanese and have an even BETTER time in Japan when I visit sometime in the future. Thank you! I know how hard it must have been to talk about all those painful things that happened to you

As someone who don't know what to do in the future, somehow this cheer me up :"> i always thought that all of my activities (learning japanese, drawing, wanting to learn instruments) are hopeless in the future since its not something you will be successful with and my parents hope for a higher position. But yeah, as long as this will keep me happy in the future, I think that all it matters. Thank you!

Believe me: even though it might not help to find THE job at the end of the day, having different interests and persueing them makes it so much easier to talk to people or find new friends. Because of my interest in languages and also art and music I met people from many different countries that showed me the most wonderful places and made me reflect on my own life, thus let me change for the better So keep it up and don't be discouraged 👌

I think if its what you want to do then definately do it, even if it might not lead anywhere. Life is not like a constant path you are going which leads somewhere, so you gotta enjoy your life by doing the things you want and try out many things, taking detours. Of course you will have to choose a job but you can still be active in other areas like music, art and so on. :)

I think having a better position in the eyes of society or your parents rather than what you really enjoy doing is a lot worse. Do what you enjoy and eventually you'll land in the right spot where you want to be. The most important thing is to progress, learn and evolve at what you do.

And of course, spending time learning Japanese. Thank you for being a part of my preparations! [And apologies on behalf of England :')] *edit spelling

I am accepted in a volunteer work project in Japan and plan to leave in August, but with the current situation, the visa requirements for Japan change every month. My Organisation already told me to get a backup plan, which makes me very sad. I was dreaming about working abroad for so long, finally got accepted and then it all gets crushed to dust. Your words really cheered me up and I appreciate you talking about yourself and your struggles, it takes a lot of courage to do that! Thank you for opening up about it and trying to make us feel better

I am currently on my 3rd setback for school over the past 10 years due to health, money, and now corona lockdowns. It has been hard, but I wouldn't be who I am today without those moments to learn and grow as a person. I don't know what it is like in other countries, but where I am in the US, there always seemed to be this timeline where milestones were to be met - finish high school at 18, college at 22 (for bachelors degree), find a job right out of college, etc. I am way behind on this timeline now and it made me depressed as I saw my friends finish and move on to the next chapter of their lives while I was stuck in place. Being able to look back on it, these events that set me back also helped me understand more of what I want to do. I don't think I would have learned these things without those moments. The main thing I learned is to be patient and do what you can during those setbacks. Just because you feel stuck or lost doesn't mean you can't be useful. Thanks for sharing! We may feel boro boro now, but there are still things we can do that are meaningful. :)

I think its important to understand that when your studying abroad anywhere (example japan) its important that we should understand that everything is going to be a bit or alot different to what your used to and it will take time for you (or anyone) to adjust to it and go on with their daily life as it will first be exciting then get frustrating and it will take time to get away from that frustration and start settling in. (this example can be for studying abroad anywhere or moving to a place your not familiar with and only through online)

But now I'm planning on going in August, so hopefully that works out! Right now I'm taking other classes at my university and taking the time to learn more Japanese. It can get frustrating because there's so many unknowns, but I'm just trying to stay positive and hope that the country will be open to students in the fall.

You have an interesting point with this video! I was supposed to study in Japan from last October but when it turned out that it would not be possible for me to go at least in the beginning, I decided to do the semester abroad online. While I think that I made the right decision, the semester has been so hard, since the time difference is 8 hours to where I live, I almost never go out anymore and there are so many assignments every day. Regardless, I was able to complete the first semester and I think I can use the semester holidays to review what I learned and recharge for April.

I got sick AF in Jan 2020 so when March hit, I don't wan to trivialize "COUGH" but I wasn't concerned with it as I felt as long as I did what doctors said (keep hands clean, wear a mask, be mindful of distance) it would be a non issue. I was already in and out the hospital so if it was caught there I'd have to accept my fate. But in all that darkness I found Twitcas and it fulfilled all my needs of being able to speak Japanese everyday and not lose it and learn new Japanese (and shimoneta w). I really wanted to go to Japan in 2020 and I guess I was working my self to literal death by Jan 2020 (heart failure was on the table LMAOOO). I'm glad I've made it this far and I'm glad you have too! Keep making videos

If things go well I want to visit Japan at the end of next year together with my friend and his family. It's been a dream of mine for around 15 years now. That's why I picked up learning Japanese once more - I am generally a lazy person so it will probably take some time but I feel like this plan gives me some purpose and joy. // Watching your video I was impressed by how open you were about your own struggles - no way that your own problem sound cheap. How can they be when it was something that made you feel so down. I also went through a part in my life where I woke up everyday and had struggles that would cause me to constantly be nervous and afraid for my future. So going through your daily life while that nagging feeling is in the back of your mind, it's really horrible. I am glad that you were able to get through this since you seem to be such a sweet and fun person. I don't know how to express it better... watching your videos is entertaining but also comforting. So your words may really help some people who are in a dark place right now. :)

I'm waiting to go to Japan to study Japanese more deeply (I have n3 and want to reach n2). But the borders are still closed. My boyfriend is in there too waiting for me since more than 5 months now. I stopped working and can't find work again. Luckily I have a good relationship with my parents. However, I'm feeling really like a weight for them, and guilty, and useless. I planned on moving to teach English in Japan in 2021, but after realizing it wasn't possible, I decided to move to Chicago, Illinois instead and experience a new American city! It has been a wild year of exploring & self-discovery for me. Now, I've met a Korean man and we've fallen in love. I still want to live in Asia, so this time I'm applying to teach English in Korea and beginning my Korean studies! I think all of this has happened for a reason, and though I may not fully understand it, I am grateful.

I can't express how much i needed this video right now. I usually get into these depressing episodes and messages like what you have shared always remind me that the only thing constant in this world is change. (Im currently learning nihongo so I attempted to translate what I. Please critique if you have time)

Thanks, your video gave me hope. I recently dropped out of college because I didn't get proper help for deaf people (I am deaf). I wasted my time and nerves. This is a difficult situation for me. I have a plan to go to college somewhere else (e.g. there is help from a sign language interpreter. Let's hope this doesn't repeat a previous situation) Or something better will happen to me. Right now I am taking my time to grow. Take care of yourself and greetings sincerely. :)

Thank you for the video!! It really helped my mental health. I am from ukraine and studying japanese at university. My japanese level is close to N4, but I just can't prove it, since 日本語能力試験 was cancelled this and previous year, because of the pandemic. We also have an opportunity to study in Japan, but once again now it is impossible. We all are really sad and the worst thing is that we can do nothing. p.s. your japanese is really easy to understand !!! tysm

I think remembering to do things now for your future is a really refreshing thought. It's hard to do those things when even getting up is such a pain, but when I remember that it doesn't have to feel good now but it will in the future I feel much better ❤️ Also, I'm very sorry to hear about your experience in the past. It sounds beyond frustrating even just hearing about it. I'm glad you're able to begin moving past it though!

Thank you so much for this video, Hitokiさん! You have inspired me, and helped me feel a little better, even if only for a little while. My parents are refugees, and my home country is a dangerous and disastrous place I can't go back to. I'm an only child but can't help my family in their time of need because I am also struggling financially and emotionally. It's very difficult for me to be positive most of the time, but sometimes videos like this one help me realize that maybe, hopefully, things will get better someday, so I should not lose all hope and fall into despair as often. Thank you, Hitokiさん.
