'Day old chicks' contain a ball of fat known as the 'yolk sack'. The yolk sac (YS) consists of the yolk, which supplies nutrients, and the YS tissue, which surrounds the yolk and provides essential metabolic functions for the developing embryo.
Some falconers remove the yolk sack before feeding it to their bird of prey, whilst others leave it in. What should you do with the yolk sack and why?
