'Day old chicks' contain a ball of fat known as the 'yolk sack'. The yolk sac (YS) consists of the yolk, which supplies nutrients, and the YS tissue, which surrounds the yolk and provides essential metabolic functions for the developing embryo.
Some falconers remove the yolk sack before feeding it to their bird of prey, whilst others leave it in. What should you do with the yolk sack and why?

Great video as always! I've always wanted to work with/have a raptor, but working 4 days a week I just dont have the time and work opportunities are few and far between! Watching videos will have to do

Hi Chris, we moved on our Peregrine a short time ago - just not enough time to fly it (and not everyone in the team is trained yet on lure swinging). We have plans to get more falcons in the future.

Thankyou for this. There is so much conflicting information on feeding out there...can you comment on mixing what is fed to chicks? I was taught only to ever feed chicks, yet rats and mice are apparently more nutritional in other sources. I have a 3 week old AEO and have stuck to chick insides with a bit of yolk once a week so far.

Hi, I always recommend around half chicks and half rodent based but more rodents and extras like prime quail when growing up - especially for a larger species like an Eagle owl.
