I really like how well you put the concept of philosophy and meaning of life. Not only did you have a concept, you researched it, explained it, gave context historically and presently and gave it perspective for people to think about. I'm surprised that this video hasn't been brought to more people's attentions but this is also a video and topic that few want to branch into. As everyone has their own journey and few break out of the mental "mold" that society gives them. I'm glad to see younger people, especially new adults like us, branching into more serious topics of life with a thirst for knowledge and meaning. I hope more people start to wake up in regards to what life has to offer instead of continuing to dream in the depressive exhaustive sleep many live and pass in.

Yes! You really captured the essence of what this video is about - I appreciate you leaving this comment :) My goal with my content is to not only explain philosophical concepts but, as you said, provide the context of why the ideas exist and how they can be applied in our every day lives. I want to help inspire the next generation of Great Thinkers and create a world that doesn’t shy away from uncomfortable ideas, but embraces them with an open mind 🧠

Thank you the video was helpful. I have been feeling down and helpless a lot lately and I have been questioning my purpose and existence. The feeling that life and everything around me is meaningless is haunting me in every waking second and it's really hard for me to focus on things I 'should' focus on like health, relationships and school. I don't yet know the best course of action right now and what my vision of the future is, but I would continue to seek meaning and embrace what I find.

I’m glad you enjoyed the video - dealing with a lack of meaning and purpose is one of life’s most difficult tasks. It’s difficult because if we aren’t careful, it’s easy to be consumed by dread and come to the conclusion that nothing is worth it anymore. I also struggle with this pretty much daily, so I’m not going to sit here and say that it’s easy to overcome like many influencers like to argue these days. A big trigger i realized for me is that I need to stop generalizing everything - when we are stuck in routines (whether that be from school or work or relationships, etc.) i often found myself “predicting” my entire life and saying things like “is this really what my life will be like until I die?” And that’s how I would begin to slip into depression. We have to stop thinking like this bc in reality we have no idea what the future will bring us. At the same time, generalizing life like this creates so many assumptions while also downplaying all of the joy and wonder that happens in small moments throughout our life (they are overshadowed by routine). So I really do believe in what I said at the end of video, the key is to focus on the present - start by asking “how can I make the most out of the next hour, out of the day?” Slowly build your way up to become The Overman like Nietzsche wrote about in his books. Life is beautiful once we *decide* that it is. It’s easier said than done but still possible, and I know you will reach a point where you are able to make that decision for yourself, until then keep going, step by step and day by day - we will both get there eventually i promise!

Seeing the Overman key characteristics suddenly reminded me of Casteneda's Don Juan explaining what it's like to be an "impeccable" warrior or sorcerer.

Do you think that determinism can lead to nihilism as everything already is determined and nothing matters anymore ?
@Burciology
@Burciology 2 месяца назад
Determinism is the idea that claims everything has a cause, which implies that even our thoughts and actions can be determined by previous events. This can definitely lead some to nihilism as people begin to think things like “well if everything I do I already going to happen what’s the point of living”. But I think that conclusion is an exaggeration, it stems from not completely understanding determinism. If we take a closer look at what is the “root cause” that determines everything we arrive at fundamental particles in physics - and yes there are many deterministic properties that exist, but there are also some indeterministic properties as well (quantum stuff). So technically there is *some*, although very very small, level of randomness in the universe. Either way, combing an extremely large amount of small components leads to emergent properties, things that exist only as a result of a complex interaction of many smaller parts (a chair emerges from a bunch of atoms). And so even though at small levels everything is determined, as far as humans are able to comprehend, these deterministic events are masked by emergence, which gives us the illusion of free will which can give us all some hope that we have some control in shaping our lives and the world around us. The key is just to not overthink it lol. Quite literally like looking at illusions, no matter what you do - no matter how much you “KNOW” it’s an illusion - you can’t change what you’re seeing, so just enjoy it for what it is. But what do you think? (Great question btw)

I can’t just tell myself this is significant though if I don’t feel it in my soul that it is, there’s too much choice indeed in modern society it’s overwhelming, great vid

I feel you, I was also stuck in a similar contradiction - like I know I *what* I need to do but I can’t bring myself to do it bc I don’t *feel* like it really matters, at the same time i will *never* feel anything if I don’t just *start*. I forget where I got this from but it goes like this: “nothing will change if you change nothing” as in, sometimes we just have to start caring and give ourselves some purpose to latch on to even if we don’t feel like it’s doing anything in the moment. Our brains are powerful, but more importantly they are malleable. Force your brain to rewire itself to see whatever purpose you want to see. Life is about a battle with your own mind, it’ll constantly try to challenge ur will, but what makes us human is our ability to face this challenge head on - we cannot give into it and let ourselves be overwhelmed. On more real level, what helped me was just to stop thinking about life through the arial view - life seems more meaningless when we summarize it with “well it seems like life is just a collection of ups and downs, why subject myself to such a bleak existence” - this a gross simplification i often found myself thinking. My solution rn that’s working for me is to really just live day by day. The past doesn’t exist anymore, the future is yet to be decided, literally the only thing we can do therefore is live in the moment. Idk if this makes any sense but thanks for commenting and sharing your thoughts lol. Choice anxiety is real, but we gotta make a choice and stick with and realize that we are free to change our minds whenever - just don’t worry about the sunk costs fallacy

RU-vid coper claims to have answers. He doesn't. He quotes psychology 101 to no effect. Worse than the traditional psychologists. Doesn't understand the very basics of self-will. While speaking of will.
