Have you ever seen someone using a berry chute like this one? Is that someone even You? Please tell!
I fell for this berry chute because I really liked the blue color together with the patinated clean wood handle. In the end my chute didn't get painted, but I'm very pleased with that decision!
I'm so drawn to everyday objects from before. They can often be somewhat or almost completely forgotten about, but not because they're not as good as what we're using today. No, simply because they're not á la mode.
The chute I copied:

I am saddened that you havent found the correct way to use this very beautifully made useful item. I love your method of making, and it is very artistically shot. I am a new subscriber, and thanks to "The Handtoolworks" I found you. He is an exceptional worker with handtools himself. Thank you for putting english subtitles in and I will be watching all your videos over time. LG - ps: I too have many tools from Sheffield England, including gouges, chisels, planes etc. I am on the west coast of Canada.

I love this video Tak! I like that the spokeshave blade is good old Carbon Sheffield Steel! I have an old Swedish berry picker well two in fact, one metal and the other wooden but with metal 'teeth' to pull the Bla Bla from the heath plants ! I also had a berry chute when I lived in Sweden in Varmland but I didn't actually know until now what it was. I imagined it was a variation of those bread dough kneaders / holders! SO thanks for the explanation and the skilled way you showed how to make this chute !

Well done noticing that! Did your chute come with like a house or something like that? That's so nice, thank you! I wish you could try that old chute of yours.

@@OLORS Yes I moved into a house in a place called ÖSTERVALLSKOG in Varmland, it used to be some smaller apartments and a leather house I believe. It was next to water and a weir so several people lived there. I found lots of interesting things in the sheds and attic ! I love the Swedish way to use Birch and loved your little pot to collect the shavings too !

Nice video and nice project. It would be nice to try to make one myself. How efficient do you find it compared to modern ones? Looks like on lingonberry it could at least as fast. Except from the fact that it's nice to work with beautiful tools like this. Also have you tried it with blueberry?

Do it! I want to use mine more to be sure, but i really like this type of cleaner and im looking forward to using it again next summer. Like you said, lingonberries are a well fitted berry for this type of cleaner. Historically they also cleaned peas and juniper in these. And they all have in common that they are quite dry and therefore rolls pretty easy. Haven't tried blueberries, could work if they're dry!
