It's the whole point of motorcycles tho, isn't it? It doesn't have to be the quickest, loudest or slickest, it strikes something in your heart and soul and that's it, you're done for
Most definitely. Plus, the amount of people who fail to read the "To me" part at the beginning of the title is quite astonishing. (added this second bit of info with the edit)
I thought it sounded a little more focused on volumetric efficiency than I was expecting. Although that's not entirely Porsche's doing, being based on the VR1000. The very deep, hard edged induction note implies some aggressive valve timing and large valve area. Also it revs so cleanly! Absolutely no comparison to a pushrod engine. When I first read about it, I wanted one for my dream garage. Having now heard it, I think it might even become reality. Shame about the Nova engines too, but Harley chose well for their own survival.
@@identiticrisis The VRod was very interesting when it came out, then I saw one in a dealership. The long low drag bike frame and huge rear tire didn’t appeal to me. I don’t know for sure, but I would bet my Dyna Wide Glide handles better.
As some of you already know this here is how I usually get my test rides: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-A_lVU5NGIUY.html Which means that almost all bikes that appear on my channel are owned by the manufacturers, they're completely new, and usually in perfect condition. This RAW is different because you're watching a used bike which is owned by a big German dealership. I was on the job for my employer 1000PS.at and together with a colleague I was filming and reviewing used motorcycles in Germany. I was under severe time pressure to make those Onboard sound recordings which meant I didn't have any time to get used to the motorcycle before filming the RAW. Please keep that in mind when judging my riding style. More important though is the fact that to my liking the twisty stretch of road I filmed was too short. That's why I had to improvise a bit and include those boring straight bits to give you a better impression of what the bike sounds like. I prefer to do all my filming on twisty road sections but it was almost impossible to find stretches long enough to do so. Especially since the best roads were closed due to severe floodings in the area. I hope you're still able to enjoy this RAW. I certainly do since it is such a nice change for once to ride bikes that are a bit older and therefore have quite a lot more character attached to them!!
Another great video, your creations always put a smile on my face. My hemisphere of the world must be a lower rpm environment. Here in the land of V8s and V Twins the sweetest sound to my ears is a big air cooled V twin. A good rumbling exhaust makes a good thing even better. But, straight pipes ruin everything for me. My ears protest when subjected to the supersonic crack when an exhaust valves opens opens without attenuation between it and me. Internal combustion has provided many enjoyable sounds, the HD Big Twin is my favorite.
That description is spot on. Its why i somehow love my CBF600 more than my tracer 900. Sure tracer is an amazing bike but... almost anyone can buy it and almost everyone would have it above the CBF but it lacks the soul of that old bike. A bike that will never ever be made because of eu emissions, thats why older bikes are so special. Also that speedometer is amazing, never seen something that unique, new bikes can have their TFTs and shit, i'd always take analog over an iphone.
You always provide us with beautiful scenery for these rides…and my Porsche luv actually brought me to Harley V-rod when I lived in Las Vegas…their 1st Water Cooled engine…and that Naked Body…and F1’s Ayrton Senna brought me to Ducati…Awesome Bike…and it’s always interesting hopping on and the forward controls… 😊
Sounds awesome! Great video and awesome to see a V-Rod getting some attention. But may I recommend trying the Yamaha MT-01.... I wish I had bought it when I had the chance,,, that kind of a bike will maybe come back in the form of the BMW R20... but until then, MT-01 for the win IMO
Can't beat the sound of a good V-twin in my opinion! That's why I got myself an SV650 with a MIVV slipon exhaust as my first bike, it sounds awesome and also has a nice deep burble in the low RPMs that makes a lot of people turn their heads lol. Sound isn't the only important thing for me when buying a bike, but when there are two bikes that both ride equally well and one sounds better, that's the one I'll buy.
Schaaf, you inspired me to get a GoPro, a Zoom mic and to start experimenting with video production. I recently uploaded a quick video of my 20-year-old bike whose sound makes me happy! You can find in on my channel, it’s called: “Pure Engine Sound - Honda Valkyrie Straight Pipes”. I’d be honored to hear your opinion of the exhaust sound. It would be cool to see you ride a Valkyrie in a future video, as I know you'd love it. If I lived in Europe, I’d bring it to you. Keep up the awesome work!!
It really is a personal thing. I can think of many V2 engines with a better sound: a 916, a TL1000, a RSV... maintaining the HD style, the MT-01 sounds (much) better to my ears. Even the recent guzzi V100 V2 has a better soundtrack.
wunderbar! Welchen Teil von "to me" hast du nicht verstanden? "To me" bedeutet in diesem Zusammenhang FÜR MICH.
I was intent to buy a vrsc street rod but the one I went to look at was a mechanical mess, very bad owner. I've owned a lot of bikes and my sportster 1200 with the right set of mufflers was just so great sonically it still makes me happy remembering what it used to be like. It was the ww2 engine noise like you mentioned, I was in full attack mode every time I let it rip through the gears and then the sound of the engine braking from high rpm was just pure awesome.
As an OG 2002 (2001 purchase) v rod owner I can tell you that in the US it was the first it’s kind! A liquid cooled, overhead cam engine was unheard of in the born in America Harley. It was not received well and was not marketed well. With that said, it’s a great bike that can be purchased cheap for what you get. 8:28
tis different for me, i love how the merlins and their german counterparts sound but i only like that sound on planes. Put it in a car it fails to impress me, more so for bikes, but this is just a matter of preference. I think the intakes are universally agreed upon as good sounding. And it smells, couldnt ask for more.
Thanks for this vid, sure it sounds GREAT. But do you remember the Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 sound with ZARD exhaust you did 4 years ago ? This one has truly nailed it for me. Amazing sound, and the gearbox ratio between shift is flawless, where this one has a huge gap at some point (the 2-3 i think). Still a killer bike but i'd go for the royal ;) Cheers lml
How about Ducati 916 sound with termignoni full exhaust? I have and rsv mille v60 full akrapovic that sounds really good but the old Ducati bikes sound is quite unbeatable.
I had a Street Rod back when they first came out. I don't know whatever possessed me to buy such a heavy expensive bike. Plus, I never really liked the sound of it. This is the first time I've ever seen anyone point to the V-Rod as a great sounding motor.
I have a small complaint schaff. hear me out.. I know that your put your mic in foam inside a bag,but the volume of your videos is kinda low when the audio is from the bag mic. Your videos are generally watched at full volume of headset and the experience of watching them is like this: the ad is deafeningly loud so we gotta lower the volume. then the ad ends and the video plays and volume is cranked up to full again, but it never feels loud enough and I just keep on checking again and again if the volume is indeed maxxed out. listen how loud the harley is in the last few clips and then on your onboard. feels somewhat of an injustice to the bike that the audio isnt loud enough, and to the other bikes in general as well. I absolutely love your videos but they just arent loud enough😝😝
thanks for the feedback although my Onboard recording is properly leveled in post production. It's compressed and its top peaks are at the absolute limit. The ads simply overdo compressing which I don't want to do with my sound files.
Now I'm wondering what bike is your second favorite in terms of sound! That V rod does sound great, but it looks horrible! Truly a time capsule of the 00's chopper craze.
The rarest V-Rod variant, basically a naked bike built around the V-Rod motor, these are also the most expensive V-Rod variants on the used market save for the handful of Destroyers that were sold. These sound even better with a good aftermarket exhaust on them.
there's plenty of great twisties in Germany but there's way too many villages in between them. The population density is the actual issue. Some of your roads are absolutely magnificent!!! But it's rare to find long stretches of twisties where you can ride hard without annoying anyone.
@@Schaaf very true. I remember when I drove to other countries, how relaxing it felt to just drive 15+km of twisty country road without interruption. Can't have that here.
As someone who is both, It's a huge "depends". I'm the weirdo American who does not like the sound of a cross plane V8, but give me a V12 all day. Yamaha's CP series engines sound great, I also like the sound of small displacement 4 cylinders like teh CB400. American V-Twins can sound good but most people ruin them with excessively loud pipes.
Why this reminds me of my cheap chinese dirtbije with open pipe? No I'm not throwing shade on this bike, it's just as cumbersome as it is I'm impressed by this piece of junks sound that I have. I want to throw it out but I can't bring myself in to it
The Street Rods actually have decent cornering clearance. Not sport bike level, but much better than any cruiser. Part of the slower riding is the bike is 20 years old and they are VERY expensive on the used market, usually selling for more than the bike sold for new.
Had one from new, kept it for 16 years... Best bike Harley ever built, yet it was a sales disaster for them unfortunately. Too fast and handled too good (came standard with Showa suspension and Brembo brakes) for the regular Harley folk. (Was my only Harley, im not a Harley guy)
@@Schaaf i understood it 100%, which was the nucleus of the comment... as it specifically indicates the lack of broader experience by anyone who makes a statement like that.
When you say WW planes sound, first bike that come to my mind is this one: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-1_QbYOcoALM.htmlsi=m_D43s-dISWHkEOx
best sound ? 🤐 i dontthink so 😉👌🏻it sound totally originally 💩 but some h-d sounds nice with more stroke lower rpm more dispalcement more torq 😎👍🏻also pepsi taste much better than cola 😎👍🏻☕️
