I absolutely love Brigham Young! He was a very good man! A man of God who accomplished so much! I have many pioneer ancestors who practiced polygamy. I am SO grateful for their obedience, their faithfulness and their sacrifice! One ancestor was 19 when she married a widowed man who had 7 children. She mothered those 7 children while she had 11 of her own children. Her husband then took a plural wife and had three more children. When the plural wife died, leaving 3 young children, my ancestor mothered those young children. The sacrifice of these stalwart people is incredible.

My fourth great grandmother married Archibald Gardner after they got to the Salt Lake Valley. She did so because he provided financial support for an otherwise single mother going at life on her own. I don't know many details of their marriage or their relationship but I do know that without Archibald Gardner, Abigail Sprague Bradford would have been entirely alone, with very little support. Being a single parent these days is difficult and i can't imagine how much more difficult it was back then. My ancestors are not, and never were, evil people. Certainly not perfect people but definitely not evil in heart.

I worked for a man, long time ago, who was he second youngest child of the third wife of Ammon Tenney who was an extraordinary man and missionary who had the gift of tongues and started serving missions to the Lamanites as a teenager. He served alongside the ‘Buckskin Apostle” . He was descended from polygamy as it was practiced under convenant and sanctioned by authority. He and his wife Sylvia were salt of the earth and they nurtured me as a new member as surrogate grandparents and I will always be grateful. Mesh (Meshach Adam’s ) Tenney said that he remembers his family as a very loving one and that he could go to any of the mothers and be treated the same as if he was their son. He was born in Colonia Dublin in Mexico after polygamy was abolished in the U.S. they had to leave when he was 4 years old because of the revolution. I feel very privileged as a convert to have that connection to such history and the influence of such amazing people. He was a racehorse trainer and i galloped horses for him. Singular experience!

I just have to say, I’m with you David - and that means I’m with every Prophet in LDS Church!

I absolutely believe what they teach is true, not only because it is in-line with the scriptures, but also because I can, and have received, personal revelation through the Holy Ghost that Russel M. Nelson is a true prophet and the things they teach are true. Anyone can receive that witness if they are prepared and ask.

The reasons why MBS is so successful is because members are not doctrinally knowledgeable. Even bishops and stake presidents are falling for her historical documents angle because they don’t understand the scriptures. The scriptures are our standard, and doctrine cannot be proven or disproven through historical documents. Even words of the prophets, in various instances, do not qualify as proof or disproof of doctrine. So glad, David, that you are proving the truth of our theology in the only verifiable method available.

You're completely right!! You are speaking Truth and unfortunately she ( Michelle ) is Wrong, and she doesn't know what she's talking about!! Another comment….. I hope everyone knows who Don Bradley is. He is the scholar who became an anti- Mormon atheist while doing scholarly research on Joseph Smith. He came back to the church, was rebaptized and is a staunch defender of the faith. He wrote the book The Lost 116 Pages of the Book of Mormon. He knows more about Joseph Smith’s practice of polygamy than anyone. Michelle Stone needs to have a chat with him.

Jehovah [Jesus Christ] sustained The Father's plan (he did not devise it). Lucifer [Saitain] devised to amend The Father's plan.

Another righteous man spoken of in the old testament (married to two women) is Elkanah, husband to Hannah. The two of them were the parents of the Prophet Samuel. Eli the Prophet blessed Elkanah and Hannah when they took their child Samuel to Eli. Later they had more children together. 1 Samuel 2:20 Elkanah was also married to Peninnah, with whom he had several children. It mentions "all her sons and her daughters". 1 Samuel chapters 1 and 2. If Elkanah had been evil by having more than one wife, Eli would not have blessed him.

In many cultures, emperors, and rulers were to ensure their royal line by having many wives and concubines. Gentiles, as far as I know, have not practiced it. Gentiles were also the last to recieve the gospel in the first dispensation, and the first to recieve it in this the last dispensation. I believe emperors and rulers, like King David and King Solomon, practiced it unrighteously. It was to be used solely to raise up righteous seed unto the Lord, as shown by the early Saints led by Joseph Smith and Brigham Young when the church was young and struggling. I still believe many err in their understanding of and talking about it, in the church. The scriptures read that it is a command by God for God's purpose of raising up righteous seed to Him. When practiced under the command of God it is a righteous thing. WHEN God commands it, it is right.

She sees polygamy through the lens of lust thats why it offends her to equate it with God. Some of these ‘members’ claim to have revelation that polygamy is evil. There are two types of ‘polygamy’. The worldly and unauthorised kind performed for lust and selfish fulfilment, and the one sanctioned by God for His glory. The Holy Ghost testifies against worldly polygamy. Truly in heaven the sons of Jacob are sealed to him through different women, much to MS disgust because she doesn’t have an eye single to the glory of God.

I honestly don't understand why she hasn't had her membership withdrawn.

David. When I was listening to this video, I had a thought about how often we use our current reality to judge the past. This is unfair to them and certainly unwise of us. We know that the life expectancy for so many was very short. Many did live long lives, but when you are faced with loosing a parent, brother, child and neighbor consistently at a young age, your perspective on life changes. Life truly is short! It would make sense to me that if you were in a position to care for multiple wives, and you wanted a large family, you would go forward with that idea. We are taught now that our children are given to us from God and that they need to come to earth to experience life here. Do we think we are the only generation that was taught this from God? I have never had a friend loose their life in childbirth. I have had friends come close to death but only because they had state-of-the-art medical care, they survived. We look back at the past and forget that many women and children died and we think that the men they were married to just went on without needing children. We all know that families sacrifice for each other in almost a covenantal way. Having a large family would lift all in creating a higher standard of life where the survival of the family would be better guaranteed. We want to believe that sex shouldn’t be transactional, but it is very transactional even today. I try to remain humble enough to look at Abraham and not judge him for what I cannot understand. I do the same with Joseph Smith and others. I do know the abundance that I have and it’s only because of the restored gospel. Thank you for your faith, it is contagious in the best way!!

I just want to add that D&C 28 was given long before any teaching on plural marriage and God specifically states how revelation will come to the church: 2 But, behold, verily, verily, I say unto thee, no one shall be appointed to receive commandments and revelations in this church excepting my servant Joseph Smith, Jun., for he receiveth them even as Moses. And: 6 And thou shalt not command him who is at thy head, and at the head of the church; 7 For I have given him the keys of the mysteries, and the revelations which are sealed, until I shall appoint unto them another in his stead. Teaching wouldn’t come from a member of the church with an agenda.

Very good David. I wish I was articulate as you are. The only thing I would add is to point out is that these people were in Joseph’s ( Jesus’ earthly father’s) patriarchal line. Jesus would never have suffered himself to be borne into a lineage of evil people. These people were his progenitors. And therefore righteous people. God bless you.

For those who are now aware, Michelle Stone isn’t just fighting against polygamy, she has come out in open opposition to our Temples and Temple covenants. She calls the Salt Lake Temple, a Golden Calf and then calls members of the Church to repentant for believing in the “false traditions” of temples. She was so bold as to even declare that NOT a single modern temple is approved by or commanded by God.

Plural marriage is still a higher law in Heaven. How many men and women on earth are sealed to more than one spouse??

Jacob's "wrestling" with an angel and then receiving a new name and then seeing the face of God is interestingly similar to the pattern of the endowment ordinance in the House of the Lord.

Joseph was commanded to institute plural marriage. Does she deny the angel and the drawn sword? Plural marriage was Joseph’s Abrahamic test.

He ignores the fact that we believe the Bible as far as it is translated correctly and that we believe the BOM to be the most correct book. That the Bible doesn't call polygamy an abomination when the BOM clearly does is a strange point for an LDS person to make. And once again he twist the scriptures. God never once sent Nathan with a woman to hand over to David, he never commanded David to take more than one wife. He didn't personally give David Saul's houses or animals. David received those by virtue of the fact that God anointed him to be King. Technically all that we have comes from God, that doesn't mean if we have beer in our fridge that God literally gave it to us. Nathan was saying everything you have David is a result of God anointing you King, that technically, not literally, all you have came from God.

I believe the prophecy of 7 women being free of their reproach did indeed already come to pass. It was fulfilled and now 100 years + later… we should be mature enough to press forward in Christ!

When God commands a difficult task, He sometimes sends additional messengers to encourage His people to obey. Consistent with this pattern, Joseph told associates that an angel appeared to him three times between 1834 and 1842 and commanded him to proceed with plural marriage when he hesitated to move forward.

I am still not convinced in eternal polygamy based on too many variables and yes I understand there are those who are sealed to more than one spouse. I am also not concerned because it will work itself out and be revealed. I do know it has been commanded by God at times during this mortality and am grateful for living prophets.

It saddens me that you would judge another without knowing all the facts first. I found this to be an unchristlike approach. Name calling is unsavoury. If you feel as though someone is out of the way you should love them and seek to understand their position. You hit the ground running but still need to allow for grace. Attacking others is not the way. Thoughtful engagement is a better approach. I really don’t feel the spirit from you, but a spirit of contention.

We also have the story of Ruth the Moabitess, the ancestor of Jesus Christ, who was part of a package deal to inherit land. Not only that, it seems if the wife of the other brother had chosen to stay with Naomi, she would also be included as part of the packaged deal. So even if the near Kinsman or Boaz hadn't already been married, they would become instant polygamists. Which would have happened every time more than one brother married to different women both died childless.

Michelle If you had integrity, you would stop posing as a faithful Latter Day Saint who professes to still wear the garments of the Holy Priesthood. You bad mouth the Brethren; and you profess to be a prophetess sent by God to correct the church. You are not only leading people out of the Church with your heresy you are breaking up families and undermining your own with your apostacy. Michelle, I hope and pray you will have a change of heart for your sake and for the sake of others who have fallen for your rhetoric.

David, thanks for addressing this subject and denouncing deception. Just one thought. If MS is railing against plural marriage, she is actually railing against our Father in Heaven and she is actually sitting in judgment against the Most High God. The Most High God has more than one wife and one of them was upon the earth, who gave birth to His only begotten son in the flesh. Pure and simply, she is definitely listening to the wrong spirit.

Something that I try to keep in mind, is that when Abraham was born Noah was still alive. When Abraham left Haran, Shem was still alive. Shem was still alive when Jacob was born. The covenant with God to Abraham was not a restoration, but rather was Abraham receiving the covenants and promises given to the fathers - from the living patriarchs.

Thank you for this, I watched half of a podcast with her and it seemed off so ended up turning it off. This was a great explanation for what I felt.

What's scary is that because something is prophesied you are taking that to mean that it is of God or that he wants it to be that way. No he is just telling us that 7 women will hold to one man just as he told us an apostasy would happen. That doesn't mean he condones or commands either, it means he knows the beginning from the end and everything that will happen. If she twisted it she was wrong for doing so just as you are wrong for twisting it to be proof that God condones polygamy.

David, I believe Jacob’s “wrestle with God” is exactly the same kind of “wrestle” you had before God, when you decided to follow God. You knew He was speaking to you, and you decided to listen even if He would “make a Mormon” out of you. You and Jacob both Let God Prevail in your life.

It's so cute how he thinks that if something isn't from God or is forbidden by God that it has to expressly say so in the Bible and has to be punished by stoning. It isn't expressly forbidden in the bible and people weren't stoned for having slaves. In fact just like with polygamy there were instructions given regarding those who had slaves. So by his logic he is saying that God condones slavery which is in direct contradiction to the plan of salvation just as polygamy is in direct contradiction to God's design for marriage. He is also assuming that because they were commanded to take their brothers wife if he died and it doesn't specify only single men that that means God is commanding them to enter into polygamy. God does not need to specify only single men as that is a given since God already established his design for marriage being between one man and one woman

I remember learning in high school German the verb for masturbate is "onanieren" (cut me some slack, we were teens). Now here is the story of Onan, the one who "spilled his seed". I jad never connected the two before, or even thought a German word would be based on a 5000 year old Biblical name

This video raises a question for me: When do Latter-day Saints feel justified publicly pronouncing a member of their own church an apostate heretic - even a wolf in sheep's clothing - when LDS Church leadership itself has thus-far refrained from making such a judgment on the person?

David, we don’t even know if we will practice “polygamy” in Heaven. An area authority of the Church told me that we will practice plural sealings, no polygamy (plural marriages) as we practice today getting sealing to our own family and relatives, that’s why we have Family History to get sealed to our family members and ancestors. Back in the Pioneer era, they didn't have Family History, which is why they tried to get sealed to the Prophet and expand the number of children born into the covenant.

I mean if you really think about it. We are to all take upon the name of Christ. This is essentially a polygamous practice of multiple people marrying one person to take their name upon them. Is that abominable? Isaiah stated and then repeated in 2 Nephi. 1 And in that day seven women shall take hold of one man, saying, We will eat our own bread, and wear our own apparel: only let us be called by thy name, to take away our reproach. 2 In that day shall the branch of the Lord be beautiful and glorious, and the fruit of the earth shall be excellent and comely for them that are escaped of Israel. Isaiah views this as Beautiful and glorious. Not abominable and wicked. I think we have a lot to learn from polygamy and a lot to be grateful for by not having to be the ones commanded to practice it. It is not right for Michelle to be so devoted to this idea that polygamy is so vile and to spread it.

Let's look at it. Michelle is speaking out against a man who was called not by Joseph but by the three witnesses to be an apostle which apostles were not what they are today, they were basically traveling missionaries. With regards to Michelle's ridiculous claim that plural marriage only ever causes drama and heartache: By the same logic, Lehi and Sariah's marriage was abominable, because just look at how their two eldest sons turned out. Same deal for Adam and Eve. Even the best families had drama, and yet they turned out alright. If there is drama on your family, take heart. God exalted some who came from, and were parties to such "drama".
