My tribute / cover of the epic 1977 masterpiece 'To The Unknown Man' by Vangelis, partly using the Arturia CS80V and other synths from Arturia V Collection 5. I only have one hand so I had to multitrack the keyboards quite a bit.
🤔 This isn't all that great! 🎙 It is Absolutely 💯% Brilliantly Stunning, & a digital video 'Masterpiece', to say the least. 🎹 As a long-time proper synth nerd, Vangelis was one of my first influences into the "Electronic Synthesis Music" [ESM], I now own my own studio, which is decked out with synthesizers from a Korg Trinity to a Roland MC-307, Novation Ultranova to a Yamaha MX-61/Motif-61, & a ton of soft synths [VSTi/DXi/AU]. 🎧 I found myself listening to your rendition of this piece from Vangelis five individual times. Each time I listened to it, the musical patches used in this piece, is almost like transcending into an alternate universe of sorts. 🎙 Listen to this piece with the best headphones you own, & close your eyes while listening, & just think about something relaxing. All the best to You, Your Family & Friends, & here's to a fantastic summer ahead (at least it is here in Vancouver/Toronto 🇨🇦). Heavy Respect, Stephen W. | DJ MIKAL☆MAXX
Thanks Stephen that means such a lot. I put everything I know into performing this piece, during a time when my mum was dying from Alzheimer's (RIP Mum). I have been forever moved by people who have a strong attachment to the original version of this piece telling me I have done it justice. If I can be at all big headed for just one moment, I feel there is only one cover version of this piece more authentic than mine on RU-vid and that's by a guy who has a studio packed with all vintage gear including a CS80. Definitely worth a look.
Still coming back to this video, again and again, yet it still AMAZES me each time. It is such a powerful piece and you truly captured Vangelis' best work to perfection: I am yet to see and hear a better rendition: I am sure Vangelis would be impressed as well 😊 I hope it helped you cope with difficult times; Your version is certainly helping me and giving me hope! I first heard the Spiral album when I was approximately 10 years old, when my mom bought it. She didn't like it and gave it to me. Hearing you play my favourite piece gives me exactly the same feeling as the Maestro did over 40 years ago. The fact that you have made this using one hand makes it even more amazing ❤
Excellent work, sir! Maybe the best cover on YT. You are a paradigm for music lovers. Respect.10/10 likes. I won't hesitate to subscribe. With all my heart, sir.
Bit late to the show, but this was a great rendition of my one of my favourite artists ('Spiral' was my first album) I am sure Vangelis, may he rest in peace) would have enjoyed this near perfect rendition!
Thank you. I am quite surprised and honoured really that this video is still receiving views and the occasional comment at six years old. I am very grateful.
@@jonvincentmusic Well deserved as you truly did a fantastic job. Especially nice is the fact that you also managed to nail the percussion to perfection!
Just watched this during a beautiful Beijing morning! Amazing job. By the way, I know you recorded this some time ago - but have you checked out Cherry Audio's GX-80? Incredible sounding virtual CS80/GX1. Great reverbs, too. Recommended!
Absolutely amazing cover!! I think Evangelos would be honoured that you have done such a brilliant job of this composition. Kudos to you Jon Vincent!! More please.
For me it was also part of my teenage...this music sends me to another place, another time, incridible chords and melody! And you played with your heart and soul, thanks!
Fantastic cover - thanks for sharing - it could not have been easy working through everything you mentioned to summon the courage to do this. Excellent work - a very fine cover indeed! :)
God damn it, this is almost better than the original!!!!! Whatever demons you may have encountered in your teens, they are well conquered now, if the music is anything to go by.
Hola Jon por dios este temazooo oo te lleva al espacio y te hace recorrer el mundo y el sol y lla luna ke talento gracias me gustaría escucharlo en remix ❤❤❤❤❤❤😎😍🙋 blanca Roldan desde argentina
A very faithful cover! Well done! I recently released my own cover version / reinterpretation of 'To the Unknown Man' also! You can listen/watch the video here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-5WxzWXifTms.html
did you ask Vangelis for a permission to make a cover version of his music ? If not, are you persuaded by his lawyers ? Or ist it unnecessary to aks for permission ?
Thanks for your comment. To answer your question about copyright, I didn't ask anyone. Technically the publisher of the original work could ask myself and other cover artists to take down our covers, but in reality it doesn't happen. Cover artists on RU-vid cannot monetize their covers of commercial music. If we could, that's where it starts getting sketchy, and the publishers would almost certainly want a cut of our royalties. But because we don't get paid for posting covers, generally the original publishers are ok with it, though they would still be within their rights to ask for a particular cover to be taken down.
Marking 2 years since Vangelis' passing by listening to both the original and cover versions of 3 Vangelis tracks ('To The Unknown Man', 'Chariot of Fire', and 'I'll Find My Way Home'). Plus the Karaoke versions of the third one.
I love this tune, and I love that Vangelis dedicated it to all those who will never be known, who died forgotten, and that makes him a supreme legend. Very well played too!
Jon, listened to the track with real interest and I must unreservedly congratulate you. Particularly because the essence and spirit of the music is totally there. Very impressive what you've achieved given you personal circumstances. An example to us all. But the 'final product' is as refined and moving as the 'Master' himself had in mind when he composed the music originally. You have well and truly 'nailed' it. Just subscribed to your channel looking for other 'jewels'. Well done!
All my respect to this recording and the story behind it. A huge tribute to a huge piece of music. Brilliant work, Jon. Congratulations. I hope you keep recording more covers in the future. New subscriber here. Greetings from Spain.
You have my utmost respect, from one musician to another. A sound execution of Evangelos's work and If I where him, id be absolutely honoured by your cover. Let your physical disability never become a obstacle to produce great music like this. Salut.
ein Meisterstück seines gleichen. dem Orginal nix aus zu Setzen alle Achtung danke. a masterpiece of its kind. nothing wrong with the original all respect thanks.
@@jonvincentmusic okay, interesting. I don't have a CS80, but I have a Tyros 4. It should have such an option. Thanks for your reply! I do have my own channel with some JMJ songs and some dIRE sTRAITS. Feel free to noze around.
WOW - this is just WOW - off the scale - one of the best IF not the best rendition of this classic - listening on high end audio, 8 aside BA IEM - Philippines
Excellent performance and excellent instruments. I’m currently working on my own version of the classic I’ll Find My Way home (multi track). This is also a fantastic Vangellis tune I ot to learn. Please check me out here on RU-vid as I’ve created a handful of multi track demos including Kraftwerk, Gary Numan and other covers with new ones in the pipeline.
Absolutely brilliant !! This track is precious for me too... And i think you ve done a very good job !! Your ears caught the essence of this masterpiece :-) ( love the glissando parts of the cs80v ) :-). Spiral is far my favourite album . Beautiful man.....sincerely
I stumbled upon this looking for a way to recreate the settings for "To the unknown Man" on Arturia Cs-80V3. Obviosly I didn't get what I came for, but Wow! Brilliant. Like you, this song has powerful memories for me and to see this was brilliant. Thank you for taking the time to show just what can be done and how so much can be achieved despite obstacles in people's paths. Thank you Jon. Tony
Well, I'm definitely not Evangelos, but I've just stumbled upon your work. I'm literally soaked in tears. That alone speaks for itself and should be enough. As a lifetime fan of Vangelis, both THIS particular track and "La petite fille de la mer" hit something hard in the depths of my innerself every single time I hear it. That being said, and in case my own opinion counts for something to you, then THANK YOU. THANK YOU SO MUCH. Your arrangement -single handedly- captured the very essence of the song and brought even a fan as myself to tears. My sincere compliments from Argentina. I hope to hear so much more from you.
That's really kind X4V13R, thank you so much. I haven't done much more work since posting this video last year because my mom died suddenly which pretty much destroyed me. I need to pick my hobbies back up again. Kindest regards, Jon
Sorry about your loss. I mean it. I can only just hope that doesn't put you away from doing what you obviously love to do. I'll bet you don't get many people to tell you -"hey- I wish I could do what you can do" quite often, do you? =) Having my both hands never really got me any inch closer to achieve something as your performance. You truly have talents waiting to be released. In time, give them a chance to be freed by your hand. You can do amazing things indeed. My regards.
Thank you again for your very kind comments. Because you seem to be a lifelong Vangelis fan please check out my cover of Chariots of Fire I recorded in 2015: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-14kLSQiR4IQ.html
Gives you a big and long hug. From one Vangelis fan to another. Well done sir for this cover, and thank YOU for being a message of hope. Your life and this song, come together as one in this very video. 🥰👏💪🤍
I have listened and loved vangelis all my life. I've listened to many artists who cover vangelis such as kebu, Albert etc . They are good but this is such a good rendition of to the unknown man, credit where it's due. 👍
I have the vinyl album Spiral in the loft. Your superb version takes me back to my teenage years and makes me want to get it on the turntable again. Thank you!!
Jon Vincent.. take a bow man.. brilliant recreation, as close to the original as possible and cleaner.. God bless you my friend.. I will now look forward to more stuff coming from you..
