When you guys ship Toast to Aussie Land, make sure all the Methanol is out of all the fuel system. Sitting that long the Methanol will absorb water. Also, fog the motor the last time you run it.

@@chapotheteg5544 it's spraying oil in to the engine to stop the methanol from corroding the cylinder walls. The fuel they use is very corrosive and when the car is not run for a few weeks (toast will be on the boat for at least 6 weeks) it will start "eating" the metal.

Hey Cleetus, if you have time before testing, I would make sure to reinforce the rear wheel tubs and add protection with the fuel cell in the rear gap like that. Alot of top guys at summernats use heavy steel tubs for tire blowouts and flames from the wheels. Also might want to pickup a few sets of steel wheels and cheap tires to pack with the car. Check out the hoonigan vid where they bring the car in for a build breakdown, youll see some safety stuff there.

The steering shaft is nearly in a direct line between the steering box and the steering wheel. A straight on front impact, ie a wall in the burnout box, could shove the steering wheel into the driver’s chest. For safety reasons, you may want to replace the solid section between the two u-joints with a slip shaft. The one I used on my 3rd gen Trans Am is made by Borgeson (Motion Race Works didn’t have this on their site). www.borgeson.com/xcart/product.php?productid=994&cat=4&page=1 One side is a 3/4in DD which slides into a 1in DD. Cutting off a stub from the 3/4” DD and welding it in the 1inch side, will let you use both of the existing 3/4” DD steering joints already in the car.

One thing I really appreciate about this Chanel is they show you the struggle and hard times. I use a outboard trim pump from a Merc outboard to power my hoist. I just hook up 12volts and hit the switch up and down and it drops nice and slow.

@@BobWiersema depending on the pump and cylinder your lift has you might need to restrict the flow and you'll also have to have the cylinder worked on. We made restrictors in a friends machine shop in 5-10 min each and he welded and tapped the cylinder for the lines. It sounds complex but it's not if you understand basic hydraulics. I could've made adjustable dump valves instead of a restrictor, but it was more trouble than it was worth for me since I have 2 different restrictors to slow the flow down. Instead we made them small and just kept drilling it bigger until I liked the speed. The only downside is it's really slow without a load. But you just flip the switch and leave it...……...Oh and if you don't go adjustable put a real load on it to dial it in and lean towards the slow side.

In my dirt track days we would run some stuff called 40 below. Worked really good. On alcohol it wouldn’t really get warm so we ran it on small motors with VP116 or big inch small blocks with alcohol.

Helo Cleet just a tip for you with running ME(Methonal)on toast, i race my racecar on ME in South Africa 1.I would add a additive with your ME, ME is known to shorten your livespan of the engine due it being a very “dry” Fuel , i would recommend Castorene(fuchs) or if you need urgent normal castor oil 2.Make sure your fuel filter works with ME i have had it where the ME eats the inside of the fuel fliter 3.Oil changes more often ME is very thin and it will go past the rings it will then turn your oil milky 4.Dont leave ME drums on the floor ME pulls water space it with a wood block or something Hope this comment helps

I went to Australia when I was in the military and I remember them be maniacal about inspecting our gear for dirt. I don’t know if it was that we were coming from Guam or if they are that way about everything that is brought there, you might check and make sure you get every speck of dirt out of Toast.

Just a heads up on the cam sync, make sure you take it apart and locktite all the screws. spent a month chase that issue on a friends race car. It was loose and causing all kinds of issues!

Smart move with the fuel - you 'may' need two pumps, though - you'll use a LOT of methanol! On that, methanol is a REALLY nasty fuel to use as it reacts with some many parts in a fuel system to mess them up - you need to check EVERYTHING! For example, it is VERY corrosive to aluminium (AKA aluminum) - especially if there is ANY water disolved in the fuel from the atmosphere, which is why what appears to be an alloy fuel tank will need to be replaced with a stainless steel one, or have some coating applied inside that is resistant to methanol. You need to check the pump, flexible hoses, fittings, regulator, injectors, etc, are also good for that fuel! It is a LOT of hassle, but will be worth it!
