There seems to be some debate as to what Tobias personally believes, so I pulled from a bunch of different interviews where he talks about his own personal relationship with "Satan," his views on organized religion, and belief.
i just saw ghost last night. so hard to imagine this is the guy that is up on the stage moving, dancing, and singing with such energy. his stage persona is amazing
I like that Tobias can be talking to a professional interviewer, child, or a random fan and seems to try hard to give thoughtful and honest answers to questions. It's hilarious that a guy that made a career behind false personas is much more genuine than the majority of faces you see in the media.
Not a fan of the Devil worship, but while I am a Christian, I enjoy Ghost's music (Prequelle and IMPERA) and do not believe I am damned for enjoying the art.
@@Cybeldina I'm slowly entertaining that idea. My toes are on the edge of the cliff. Logic brain is ready. Brainwashed brain not so sure. I've seen a legit ghost before (and I'm a skeptic) so I know there's something after death but I don't logically think I can believe in the heaven and hell concept anymore.
Satanism doesn't permit devil worship if you are adherant to the 5th Satanic Tenent. (Beliefs should conform to our best scientific understanding of the world. We should take care never to distort scientific facts to fit our beliefs.) If Satanists worship anything, they worship you. The best parts of you where the light of Lucifer shines on the world to give everyone grace and hope.
Tobias' relationship with the devil isn't about worshipping evil, it's about worshipping freedom, sure, as a Christian, I have my own reservations about his views, but God finds salvation for all. Again this man does not believe in evil and chaos, he just sees some sort of.. balance. That others don't see
Tobias is being deceived. And I don’t say that as a Bible thumper. He’s looking at people and their actions rather than the essence of the entities he thinks he knows. He is living art which is interesting to watch and listen to but it doesn’t always represent reality and what these entities actually are behind
@mandarinablue8438 he is but you have to take him on his word and assume he believes what he says. Luciferians believe exactly what he said. They believe the devil is actually a friend or mentor and God is the one that oppresses us. Love his music and I know a lot is just art but he’s said the same things in many interviews. He admires the devil 😈
At 4:12 after that deep one sided chat, I like to imagine seeing the camera finally pan over to where he was facing, and to see a bewildered 3 year old sitting up on a dresser.
Bro Iv listened to ghost since 2017 and just figured out Tobias took the mask off. I always downloaded the albums blared them loud as I could and just never kept up with them. Back in 2016 they were at a festival in Va beach Va and played there hearts out for an hour. I could not believe how good they were. So glad they are finally getting there moment
You also have to remember that the devil is NOT the leader/controller of hell. Biblically god is. The devil is only another soul damned to eternal torment, for going against god's ideals.
Ive never been impressed when I hear him speak in character during shows. But Damn...on the DL he is a really articulate dude. I swear I mean this as a compliment.
That man onstage is a character accent and clothing wise but all that shit he says is real and he feels comfy saying what he says cuz he's in a mask and when ur in a mask u tell the truth
He's 100% right about people believing in things that they don't understand. That's where I am and part of why I dropped religion as a whole. Cause in reality, things are bigger than us so how can we claim to know things beyond us? We can't. That's why I stopped. Believe what you will, but he has a very very very good point. We. Do. Not. Know. Terrifying but true all the same. 24:10
@joshjacobson8573 why should someone like God get to decide who Eternally suffers and who doesn't...I'm gay and sleep with women...used to be Christian but I still would be going to hell either way...Tobias Is very smart and well spoken and this band is what made me decide to give up religion all together...honestly never been happier knowing I can do what I want and do things that make me happy without having to worry about if God approves...sorry not sorry😂😂😂
I know I sound like I'm preaching. I am of the Christian faith and I actually like some of Ghost's music. I'm not a hypocrite. Unfortunately many Christians are hypocrites. I don't believe that you have to get all dressed up in a suit and tie and sit there and be quiet. I honestly have little knowledge of Catholicism which seems to be Tobias Forge's subject matter. When I was a young boy and also a teenager as a Christian not a Catholic, I did not get a sense of sadness or being held in chains or whatever by the GOD and I left Church services feeling very elated within and had a very good outlook on life. I am now in my late 50s and I just feel that Tobias Forge is an extremely intelligent person and a very good musician and even though I am of the Christian faith, if anyone reads a modern translation of the Holy Bible and really thinks about who Jesus really was and IS, they would find that Jesus was exactly like Tobias Forge in the way that when Jesus was alive on this Earth he despised all the good doers in the synagogues. These people would go to these services in the synagogues or what have you and leave very happy but extremely filled with self pride and look down upon those that needed help and we're hungry and they would show off how rich they were and how stinking snotty they were towards those that were in need and very unhappy with their lives and starving. These were the people of the "Church" of that time and Jesus despised those people and spread a message of being free from those people. Just as Tobias Forge feels that there are those that are in the Christian faith are exactly the same way. I myself would have no problem going to a Church service wearing a Ghost t-shirt! No BS! There are so many people that have been misled and have allowed themselves to twist within their own minds what Christianity truly is and really it only takes just yourself and a modern translation of the Holy Bible and meditation and prayer sitting in your room in silence and trying to draw out all of the good in the world instead of looking at bands like Ghost and other bands throughout the time that were scorned for being satanists. I actually like Tobias Forge and I would love nothing more than to sit down and just chat with him about anything. Doesn't have to be about music or doesn't have to be about the Church or whatever. I like to go to a ball game with Tobias Forge and just have a good time. Deep inside I believe Tobias Forge is a genuinely good person but he's also a Showman. He is a unique person and I really don't think he's all that complex. He like many that came from the Catholic Church such as comedian George Carlin who is my favorite comedian, also came from being brought up in a Catholic Church, hated organized religion so much but as a follower of the Christian faith, I see an inner true God in these people. Try to compare Tobias Forge with Charles Manson. Now there was a sick, evil MF! Just as an example. I don't believe that Tobias Forge would have approved of the life of Charles Manson or Anton LaVey the supposed author of the satanic bible. Even though these are all real people, they just choose to put on a show. Just like the rock band Kiss who was so "demonic" back in the day. The original members of that band were just four Jewish guys from New York who had an idea to shock people. Shake up the system a little bit and have fun. That's all that Ghost is about. Shaking up the system and more or less play music on stage in a theatrical set of a movie. And once again the music is just the soundtrack.
While I disagree with Tobias' views on Satan/the Devil as he relates to Christianity, Jewdaism, etc. I can understand where he is coming from to a degree. I am a Christian and one glaring issue that people seem to have with Christianity is with Christians who are not very likeable people. It is no secret to me that many people consider Christians to be hypocrites, and it is often said that Christians in restaurants on Sunday are the hardest to deal with. Ironic right? Well it is true, but not all Christians are that way, and I would venture to say most of them aren't. Christians are hypocrites because we aren't perfect, and that's why we need a God to save us. That's why God came down to earth in the form of a man named Jesus, to live a perfect, sinless life, and one day be injustly killed on a cross to take the punishment due for all of our sins so that we won't have to. I also understand how Tobias said that there are not really any bad things that happened "in the name of the devil", but there are bad things that have happened in the name of God. For example, the Crusades, maybe even Islamic terrorist attacks... Point being, he is right on this. However, we live in a world full of sin and evil that does not happen in the name of God, those evils often happen for some other reason and that is because of Satan/the Devil. (Btw any evil committed in the name of God is not just and not from God.) Since the fall, God has allowed the devil to reign over the earth, God is still involved don't get me wrong, but by allowing Satan to have control over the earth makes a way for people to choose... to choose a righteous path or a wicked one. The righteous path would be choosing to believe that Jesus Christ died to save you from your sins and then living according to his word, the wicked path would be to go your own separate way. My point is, every bad and evil thing that happens in this world is in some way because of sin, for example, wars. I also found Tobias' point about how the pop culture devil represents freedom and rebellion, whereas the three "hebrew" religions represent control. This is an idea I can understand, because I sin just like everyone else. Because of that, we all have a natural inclination to sin and rebel, because "freedom!" and "I can do whatever I want" but so often when I sin, I am not happy in the end, and there are unforeseen things that I have lost. Ironically, I feel as though I am trapped in my sinful ways, wanting so bad to be free. That is why, in Christianity, God's word tells us to stay away from such sinful things and when I do, when I choose to stop seeking quick fixes and pleasure, and live God's way, I am happier than ever. I know this is a very long comment, but I hope I was able to provide some insight, given that I have a differing opinion from Tobias (this comment is on the first 4 mins.) I love a lot of Ghost songs, and it is plain to see that Tobias and the rest of the band have a truly unique talent for making music. Ghost's sound is so unique compared to any other bands I have listened to and I really enjoyed their latest album. Anyway, that's all I have to say. If you read all of this, I'd love to hear your opinions too! God bless.
Right on it's amazing to me people miss the point that God gave the world to satan it says that clearly in The Bible. And God gives us free will and if he didn't then we wouldn't need a savior. I don't claim to know it all and i don't believe it right to judge anyone because that's God's job. But it's flat wrong to say that God is the reason for everything wrong that happens in the world. This tobias just sounds to me like that's what he's saying idk. Anyway i read your comment👍
@@kevinh.6587 Nice work lol But yeah, it is like you said, we should not judge anyone because that's God's job. The important thing is that we can see and understand where Tobias is coming from and unfortunately, his experiences with Christians in his life have shaped the opinions he has. However he seems to be a pretty open minded man, and it is never to late for God to save anyone 🙏
I don't know if it's my autism, or if I'm actually stupid. But I'm a bit confused by the message you're trying to spread here. I doubt you'll respond to this, but some help would be great. Sincerely, another Christian.
The Devil is a metaphor of the evil that men commit…..the Devil is basically what ppl have identified as the root of evil. It’s actually a cool gimmick (you could say that Ghost are taking the point of view of the Devil) Their music is good.
There are only two types of belief ..self belief and disbelief .the rest is hearsay ....be a knower. He sounds more like a Luciferian. Big love to Tobias for such a great idea and the subject matter of Ghost ..be sure of your actions. thanks for the film.
Tobias speech summary is If by listening to Ghost's lyrics a single person feels better and is saved from a bad path or is saved from suicide, that would be a job that almost no one can do. And if it was necessary to use a controversial theatrical figure to make you a better person, then so be it. The end justifies the means and some people can say Ghost band was sent by God directly bypassing common churches, that can be a deep and powerful reasoning and worldview
Alot worse choices in life than this man n his beliefs n ghost. Metal band can have a nun on a shirt with legs spread n c**t on it but he cant put on a show dressed as a pope. Chill out people n relax.. this type of music n film n belief as been around forever
He said he don't understand why Christians goes to church and still be very awful. You see , church is especially for awful people to become better 😊. You don't believe in God because there is no proof, i understand that. I always question to myself, what would i reply when a friend who doesn't believe in God ask me such questions. However, now I think , I have the answer, i.e. You just know he exist! If he was something that can be seen and prove just like that , evryone, majority would be a Christian. You just need to have a faith , even just the size of the mustard seed will do. You are free to hate me. Lastly, be careful of the songs you listen and movies you watch. Be aware of what you are feeding to yourselves and what are influencing you. Devil doesn't hide anymore. God Bless You All🙏
referring to the first part of this comment, i believe he means those who go to church for long periods of time and are still horrible people. i get your sentiment, and as far as christianity says, that's true, but i think you've misinterpreted. take for example, andrea yates, i believe her name was. woman who was extremely religious, had horrible postpartum depression, and drowned her kids. now, we're not looking at andrea, but instead her husband. he was so devoted to his faith that he refused to let his wife get treatment, and had another baby with her against medical advice. this is just one example of people who have been in the church for years and are horrific, whether they were regardless, or if they church taught them that. there's another case where a woman ripped the arm off her newborn baby 'because god commanded her to'. and of course there's less serious things, people who have been in the church their whole lives and are still assholes and abusers.
From these interviews i want to like him...well spoken and intelligent.. But as far as ghost music is concerned i dont like how it has become more pop than metal...i wish they would have stayed more on the path that there 1rst cd was on with songs like Elizabeth... Still a great band tho simply for the fact that they have fantastic musicianship and offer something diff for fans of music
and now I remember you got to check out Harley Poe anyone that reads this corpse grinding man or any of the live stuff on punk with a camera or fist full of vinyl
Agreed. Christians that I have met are an awful set of people. Bible Bashing and preaching whilst breaking every rule. No religion is good religion. I have my own individual beliefs. All positive and pure. Love your Band 🙂
When religion is used to control people and all that other crap it’s basically a scheme made by men. I believe in god/christ and i have faith in what i believe and i applaud you for sticking with what you believe in and having a great mindset God bless you!!
He is… such a calm person and seems so nice to be around. And he is extremely talented when it comes to melodies, lyrics and conveying messages in his songs. Not to forget that he’s so good at playing his characters that you sometimes can’t wrap your head around the fact that it is literally him dancing and fooling around on stage and in the chapters. Like I can imagine Tobias being Copia but definitely not the other way round! 🤣
I’m catholic and love Ghost the music is great and everyone has their own beliefs. If you aren’t secure enough in your own religion then that’s your fault
Tobias' thoughts on Devil/God are very close to William Blake's universe concept where Devil represents creativity and freedom and God is a symbol of total control and stagnation. It's just awesome how Tobias combined such interesting religious, visual and music elements in one project! The thing with Papas' changing and Ghouls anonymity is very cool! Thanks for the video, it helps to understand the Ghost concept much better!
There was a late 18th and early 19th century movement of Romantic Satanism, more of a literary movement then religions one. A secular Satanism of sorts, influenced by Milton's fictional portrayal of Satan but more as a symbol or projection of idealized rebellious, consciously hedonistic, anti-establishment hero that is fighting tyranny, religious oppression, that inspires change, creativity and radical actions. So, basically, it's more of a conscious literary, social critique and creative creation then a some sort of metaphysical belief in some sort of energy, being, person etc...
How is God symbol of total control when all throughout the bible talks how God gives us all freedom of freewill to choose. God so loved the world that he died on the cross and rose on the third day so anyone that believes can have eternal life. Even when God was hanging on the cross bleeding and suffering he said "forgive them (talking about those that crucified him) for they know not what they do.
@@SKRooU2 "You have freedom and free will, but if you don't get on your knees, you'll burn in hell :)" - sky daddy 69 Anyone who thinks that is freedom is truly indoctrinated. People who actually think for themselves know that is a narcissistic tactic.
Amen. Same. Just because the songs are made with the devil in mind, it’s who listens to it who makes the music what they want to mean. I don’t listen with the devil in mind but take the beauty to it.
@@glamorouslynothere4785 honestly it makes me so sad to hear people who aren’t religious or Christian to hear their meetings with harsh Christian’s. The homophobic, racist ones. I like how they take the time to explain to that kid what they are about in a way that he seemed to really listen and understand. My daughter is 8 and picked to go see Ghost rather than Alan walker or Demi lovato \m/
Some of the comments from Christians here are genuinely frightening, but I love that you took the time to put this together since it's such a topic of debate among new fans especially. Tobias is just a wonderful guy, so intelligent, articulate, and charming. I'd love to have a chat with him about so many things.
I’ve been reading the comments for the past 15 min and I have not come across any of these frightening comments from Christians you’re talking about lol and I’m not defending them I’m not even religious but don’t lie 😂🤣
My mother wasn't religious at all, but my grandmother was, but not oppressively so. We still had to go to church on Sundays, and I never minded it. In fact I enjoyed it, and one of the big reasons was the choir and the music. Plus it was nice to think about things other than the mundane for an hour or so. And social. The beliefs of the world was something I sought out and always find interesting. I adore Ghost!
at this point it's ridiculous to see people saying that ghost isn't satanist. what tobias said in this interview is what satanism is, and me, as a satanist, have the same feelings about it.
Isn't it obvious that Ghost is a Satanist band? the lyrics "HAIL SATAN, ARCHANGELO" aren't enough of a proof? Which is exactly why I love Ghost. No hiding, no bits and buts, straight up HAIL SATAN
I knew people that wouldnt let their kids watch the Adams Family or the Munsters. What kind of hell are you in that you would make your kids miss such amazing shows?
I am a Christian, read the bible every day. I absolutely love the band Ghost and their music. No conflict here. Forge is a very smart and thoughtful person. Refreshing to hear his views.
In name only? If there is no conflict, then reading the bible is all you do. I'd the bible doesn't conflict with antichristian lyrics that are antithetical to the gospel itself, I would seriously look inward and ask why.
@@joshhigdon4951 well in the Bible god states that music exists to help bring you closer to him and strengthen your connection with him however there are many songs out there aside from metal that have nothing to do with god and almost give the complete opposite impression
@@joshhigdon4951 I don’t think it matters what I’m trying to say is that we need to stop acting like this band is the spawn of Satan and that we need to avoid it at all costs because think of all the other music that has to do with being rebellious and what not they don’t get any criticism it’s just ghost if that was the case then we shouldn’t be celebrating Halloween because it’s pretty much the same concept with spooky ghostly things and stuff that the devil would find pleasing
I find it very difficult to believe that Tobias is a Freemason, especially giving his stance on organized religion. I'm not saying that he isn't, it's just at odds with his philosophies.
As someone who is not religious I don’t exactly agree with him but I like his music still and people can have their own viewpoints, I know I have felt and seen evil things and I have seen and felt what some would call Holy/ Good things I think most people who were raised right can know what’s right and what’s wrong like that gut feeling, Yes a lot of religious people use their religion as a weapon and try to put you down for not believing the same thing as them but that is not all of them and I have had good experiences and bad experiences with religious people but mostly good I think he is jaded because obviously his experience was bad but doesn’t mean religious organizations as a whole are or that they don’t offer peace, Guidance and can teach morality but again that can go both ways
why should someone like God get to decide who Eternally suffers and who doesn't...I'm gay and sleep with women...used to be Christian but I still would be going to hell either way...Tobias Is very smart and well spoken and this band is what made me decide to give up religion all together...honestly never been happier knowing I can do what I want and do things that make me happy without having to worry about if God approves...sorry not sorry😂😂😂 LOVE GHOST🤟🤟🤟🖤🖤🖤🖤
If y'all are able to believe in god and jesus, is he not allowed to believe in the devil? Or is he wrong just because his beliefs are different than yours?
You are correct, he has free will, endowed by our Creator. Some are just sad WHY he believes what does. But he was turned off to Christ because of acts of man that don't represent what God/Christ is about, not because of acts of God.
There’s no difference in the biblical devil and the pop cultural devil. This dude may be a good entertainer and a talented individual but he’s lost as a goose in regards to eternal salvation. When I listen to his words I hear lack of control. He talks about “freedom” in place of self control. He calls religious people “shitty.” He calls himself a “satanist.” He has a deep-rooted hatred for Christianity, specifically. Believe me, he knows what he’s doing but hey … it’s his soul. Free will, right? 🤷🏻♂️
But I will just say one thing: if there is a bigger ultimate power, it's neither good nor bad or evil; otherwise, we would suffer every second. And a perfect being who is behind all of this can't be in between. I think the answer is way more complex, maybe something beyond our understanding. So, we should be in an agnostic position and less focused on someone waiting to welcome and comfort you after you die. As far as I can understand, atheism is not an arrogant, egoistic position that someone might think an atheist says all the time, 'Unless you give me evidence, I will say, Fuck God and religion.'' Instead, it's a logical and rational way to evaluate our surroundings and allow some irrational threshold of things we can do, like music, painting, adventure, etc. Maybe you have your own definition of atheism, or maybe mine is not perfect, but I am always open to rational thinking and changing my view. I think that's what makes people immune from irrational fools that you see most of the time in religion, like 9/11.
I feel like he’s just very intellectual and actually makes sense. He speaks truth. Think about it.. in the name of religion, so much blood has been shed and so many issues raised. That’s what he’s saying. He’s talking about religion as a whole.
I feel that. Even as a Christian, I’ve been hurt a lot from the church and other Christian friends and family members. I saw a post that said “I’m sorry the church hurt you, that was humanity, not Jesus”. And yes I understand that humans are fallible and imperfect, but when people claim a deities name yet do not reflect any attributions of that said deity and do what they please at the expense of others feelings or well-being, it’s difficult to be enticed toward that religion or group of people who believe what they believe in… and also gives that said religion or group a bad reputation. Even for me, I am struggling with my own beliefs and questioning my faith. But it’s great to hear others stories and perspectives, especially when it’s different from your own upbringing. It gives you a new outlook on things. I do like his viewpoint and beliefs, and I love how genuine and open he is about them.
@@amyellage4764 the issue is religion. That’s what destroys the whole thing and makes Christians (like myself) look bad. Religion is bad. It’s faith that’s the good part in all of it. Most people unfortunately let religion get in the way and let the man made rules take over. Makes me sad that a lot of people have bad experiences because of that.
This pretty much spells put exactly why Ghost/Tobias' lyrics make absolutey zero theological sense, and also inadvertently why he is so casually blasphemous. As someone who loves the music of Ghost, I've always been incredibly disappointed with the laziness of the lyrics. Pretending "the devil" is simply misunderstood is intellectually dishonest at best, and abysmally immoral at worst. The louder your voice becomes the more responsibility you automatically and justifiably assume to the people around you. As an aside, there is no singular figure or entity in the old or new Testaments that encapsulates what is commonly associated with "Satan" or the "Devil" in popular western culture. That is to say, secular culturr has unsurprisingly completely misunderstood the Bible due to lack of reading and critical thinking, and of course not consulting people who dedicate their lives to its study and preservation of history. Anyway, at the end of the day there is no justification imaginable for writing a lovely little pop song and then in the chorus inserting the most blasphemous disgusting thing possible, aka insinuating Mary the mother of Christ is masturbating with a crucifix, the symbol of her son's/God's death and ultimate sacrifice. Its not cute, its not the same as AC/DC singing about casual sex, its straight up disgusting and abhorrent on every conceivable level. And in a secular sense what is even worse is how unnecessary it is in the song. Somehow Tobias missed the part in the Black Metal scene where all the "cool kids" grew up and started worshipping God's creation (aka nature worship) instead of actively worshipping evil.
You just said that the Old Testament does not have a single entity called Satan, which is true. hasatan is not even evil - it is simply an adversary. Yet, you say Ghost worships evil? Make up your mind! Ghost is adversarial, true - adversarial to the fundamentalist, controlling, versions of religion. Yet, there is no indication of evil, no 'worship of evil'. There is rock, there is theatre, there is fun, and there are huge sold-out stadium concerts that seem to indicate that their version of pop-culture Satan is still pretty cool, and there is no need to grow up at all. But there is one other thing that you totally missed, that I think is of primary importance in response to your diatribe: neither Tobias nor his fans give a single flying fuk about your opinion on whether Ghost is evil or not, other than to be sad for you being caught up in a preoccupation with some fantasy evil when the world has some real human- made evil in it.
friendly wake up reminder: Satan doesn't care if you worship him, his job is to turn you away from GOD. You worshipping anything other than GOD is a win for him. You can worhip these decievers, celebrities, man made religions heck you can worship yourself! guess what it makes no difference you'll end up downstairs with him.
I so hope Tobias is right in what he says about these apocalyptic times. Everything seems so bleak. Writing this just after trump’s assassination attempt and the trump train is running straight to the White House. Very very scary prospect. I hope he is right to be optimistic ❤
@@octaviosander8898 I was afraid to tell my mom about me liking ghost but when I told her she was like Oh I know that band cool. And my dad even said that he liked their music too 😭so happy
Ghost isn't a really bad band whatsoever as far as their music and sound goes. Tobias Forge is of course the main Force to the whole thing but THE GOD is a creator. The devil can only imitate. GOD represents good. Satan, the devil, whatever you want to call it, represents bad and negativity So I believe Tobias Forge and so many others that have come and gone in the musical Spotlight and movies, books and whatever that would say they are part of a satanic cult or put on dark concerts as anti-Catholicism is is just a show. The music is the soundtrack. That's it.
It sucks. I love god and am a catholic, but just because you have a bad childhood with Christian’s, I don’t think it’s ok to mock Christianity, but I ask god to forgive this man, and pray that he finds god. I do have to admit though, his music is good.
