I think the 2003 version might be the saddest because of the fact Tobio had an argument with his father. Which was tragically the last time the two of them spoke right before his death.
Honestly, I feel like that's one of the worst ones. He's trapped behind a barrier with a dangerous robot, afraid, while his dad tries to comfort him. Then Tenma has to watch his son get vaporized right in front of him. It's horrifying when you think about it, even though it was probably done that way because it was a less realistic death than a car accident.
The North American version of AstroBoy 1980 edited out the hospital death scene, amongst other scenes from the first two episodes including Astro's first encounter with Atlas.
I was so confused because I saw someone reviewing the 2003 version of Astro Boy, and I was like "Didn’t he have a pet dog? He had a toy car, not a bike??" But it's because I watched the 1980s version, which is different 😂 The poor boy had terrible luck with trucks, didn't he?
