And the dog technically makes an appearance in Deltarune. In the library, if you try to enter the computer room, it says that a dog is making a game, and that you could enter when the dog was finished.
I love how the interviewer just doesn't know to handle Toby's energy. He looks like he's tripping balls and wasn't ready for this turn of events. Toby is an absolute legend.
@@forgottenanimatin2955 yeah me too i heard about the guy i thought he was this cool chilled inspiering guy when i wanted to know what undertail was about and he's a just Dork
It's hilarious to see people on social media acting like Toby Fox is some kind of mysterious indie game developer who has never shown his face before meanwhile Toby Fox just shows up to the interview
I don't understand how people call him social awkward. He's ballsy, pure and simple. Making others feel awkward isn't the same as being awkward. In fact, it's the opposite.
@Efe mert the "myth" says he and the creator of smash are friends and he beat him after making a bet: if toby beat him, an Undertale charachter of toby's choice would be in smash
even if you think it’s cringe, you gotta admit, literally nobody could have made Undertale. Like out of all people there’s no way it could be anyone other than THIS guy.
I'm quite honestly shocked that the guy who came up on stage is actually Toby. He seems comfortable, confident, and has good comedic delivery. Since then he's almost completely vanished and has been replaced by dog, on-screen narration, and Text-to-Speech.
This is actually amazing footage; how cool to see THE Toby Fox being his hilarious self before he became so adored for it! Also, the way that Dan the Host was in both this AND the Fangamer stream for Deltarune Chapter 2, supporting him over 6 years and probably more... that is dedication!!!
I was at Camp Fangamer and hung out around Toby Fox while playing Smash Bros in the game room. He seemed chill and relaxed and I got the impression he had an easygoing, likeable charisma. I didn't even know what Undertale was at the time, but as soon as he walked in the room his presence was noticeable. He seemed very intelligent, confident, and well-liked, and he definitely stood out in a positive way. I just wanted to share that I saw Toby being very non-cringy when he was off-stage. Probably more in his natural element.
Out of curiosity - what year was this, and what exactly *is* camp fangamer? From what I can see it seems to be an expo of sorts, but I can't really find any info.
Im so jealussss!!!!!! I would've asked him abaut the next chapter of deltarune. He will probably tell nothing. So ill ask again! And again! 😂 And ill promise I won't tell anyone. And I won't tell. Toby If you are reading this (and you are probably not) pleaseeeeeee
I saw Toby Fox at a grocery store in Los Angeles yesterday. I told him how cool it was to meet him in person, but I didn’t want to be a douche and bother him and ask him for photos or anything. He said, “Oh, like you’re doing now?” I was taken aback, and all I could say was “Huh?” but he kept cutting me off and going “huh? huh? huh?” and closing his hand shut in front of my face. I walked away and continued with my shopping, and I heard him chuckle as I walked off. When I came to pay for my stuff up front I saw him trying to walk out the doors with like fifteen Milky Ways in his hands without paying. The girl at the counter was very nice about it and professional, and was like “Sir, you need to pay for those first.” At first he kept pretending to be tired and not hear her, but eventually turned back around and brought them to the counter. When she took one of the bars and started scanning it multiple times, he stopped her and told her to scan them each individually “to prevent any electrical infetterence,” and then turned around and winked at me. I don’t even think that’s a word. After she scanned each bar and put them in a bag and started to say the price, he kept interrupting her by yawning really loudly.
Wonderful! And he loves chocolate too, like his characters, it's so cute! This person is just on another level. It's good that there are still such people! They should be happy!
I now see why I love Undertale's writing and spirit so much after watching this part and the second part, because Toby's humor is essentially my humor. He creates his own awkward situations, and *makes* Dan *have* to play along. Like, he's getting a lot of enjoyment from just screwing with everybody and make them play a role in his silly back and forth. Jesus, he's my hero. Toby too.
This is the first time I see a video with Toby Fox...I literally started crying when he entered the scene lol... I didn’t expect him to be like this, but I love him even more... He just makes me feel more confident. If Toby Fox can be cringe in public, I can be too, I guess XD “Just clap for me, you little freaks”
I am revisiting this after hearing Tobys voice in ''We Baby Bears'' as Jared and it's in my eyes basically like a nervous annoying dog and that makes my day. This is still the best interview I've ever seen.
This dude is literally my idol, my hero and the man I look up to as an aspiring game developer and I'm happy to see that he's just as dorky as anyone else if not more. Hopefully I can live up to his success
Lol, all these people saying he is not good at socializing, smh. He just having fun in the best way possible. This is just great. Toby Fox truly is a great indie developer. People in the comments clearly cant have fun or were never true toby fox fans in the first place.
Derek Spradling yeah it was painful to whatch i always thought he would be a cool mature chill dude and instead he's a social akward dork guy no doubt he still made a good game with the help of fans friends and family. Now i feel like doing the genocide's path in undertail.for curiosity. So wish me luck ^_
Darth Nebula yeah he’s OK in my book. But yeah this was “a bad time. “ Good luck with the genocide run. I’m not doing it myself, because I have already spoiled it for myself, also I don’t think my skills at the whole bullet hell are good enough for The genocide run.
Darth Nebula also, I won’t spoil anything, but here is some advice. Save the following items. Butterscotch pie All the snowman pieces The noodles Save those for the very end
absolute favourite moments: 0:21 the way Toby absolutely GROOVES onto the stage as an immediate first appearance 0:59 i didn't know there was a group of people performing that, so when it cut to a whole band there and revealed that they just did that live, it sent me and my sides into orbit 1:16 the first time the dog shows itself,, 2:10 "I've been getting hair in unexpected places..." "It's like Puberty 1.5." 2:51 THERE HE IS!! THERE HE IS!!!! 3:25 dan they love me!! they really love me!!!! :) 4:19 - 4:46 this entire moment. the crying cutout Toby had prepared, Dan's awkwardness, the "Why Dan? Whyyyy?? I'm so cold Dan... I'm so alone..." it's great 4:59 "I'll start with the story! _LONG AGO...."_ 5:49 _"CAN THEY ESCAPE THE UNDERGROUND? CAN THEY ESCAPE THE WORLD OF MONSTERS?_ can they give me a pat on the head!?!??? X3" 6:23 the guy in the back peeking in for a second then immediately leaving 6:26 "They should start with the demo!" "LIKE YOU DIDN'T!!! >:(" 0:00-10:00 Dan in general just being unable to handle Toby's energy 7:05 - 7:19 "iiiit's hopeleeeeess!!!" 7:21 "BUT Undertale does have a table! In the game room! The arcade room! Where there's lots of other games but.. mine too!!" 7:34 "Yeah! You can't play it but I'll tell you to!" 7:53 he groovin!! he movin!!! 9:17 "With laughter, friendship and *DETERMINATION, YOU CAN PREVAAAIIIL!!* Yay!!!!" 9:56 "Just clap for me you little freaks!"
Idk if this is a reference or not,but when Toby said “I’m so alone,Dan..”, I think he is referencing on the Asriel final form battle, where at the end,Asriel says “I’m so alone,[Name]...”. But hey, that’s my theory.
@buildblok85 ☕ 'I'm so alone, [name]. I'm so afraid, [name].' literally almost like a direct quote. When I first heard Toby say that, this was also my first thought. I mean, it's overly specific. Or at least you can detect similarities in vocabulary style (same person writing).
I love this man so much. He seems so socially awkward but he’s so socially intelligent at the same time that he just comes off as a weird comedian guy. Also his voice changing reminds me of spamton.
wonder what it was like to be in the audience for this thinking "what the fuck" then seeing undertale become a HUGE hit a few months later and then being even more like "what. the FUCK"
It's really sad to think we might never get to see something like this again, toby did this interview only because he had to, and yet he did it in such a amazing toby-foxy way.
I guess even the most popular of idols aren't good at everything, at Toby's case, he seems to not be good when it comes to socialising at events or just interviews. I feel like he would be the guy that works better in a causal setting with less people. Kinda humanises him even more for me, people will always be better at something, even to the people they look up to.
Lugmillord just saying that is normal if he is nervous i have the same problem... it is natural thing that happens in your brain and you cannot affect it byself
How can i say this... if i was in a room with 10 other guys, one of them being Toby(but without knowing who he is), and they asked me who created undertale i would have know that Toby was the guy. He LOOKS like a guy who would have created undertale. I cant explain it too well, it just... is.
