I'm trying teach myself solidworks at home and this is gold, it's also brilliant for other cad/cam software, because I'm also using Cam and design software for work and some of these techniques transfer or explain how the other software works ie the imported geometry.... Thanks so much
Great video full of great tips and tricks! Looking forward to the next one. Thank you for taking the time to put it together. How tall is too tall Toby?
instead of first creating a sketch and then creating the extrude or cut, why don't just first pick a plane, then pick the extrude or cut command. it will bring you to sketch but then immediately bring you right to extrude/cut parameters. saves clicks.
good question -the answer "Because you don't always extrude or cut extrude from a sketch". Sometimes it's layout geometry, sometimes it's a path or guide curve. So using the workflow "1. Select a plane 2. Begin a sketch 3. Orient your view" is going to be a more universal solution.
@@TooTallToby I get what you're saying. we all have our own way of doing things and I know you're teaching because you always need a sketch but you may not always extrude/cut from that sketch. but from an efficiency standpoint, I almost always know if I'm cutting/extruding a feature when I initiate the sketch so it saves time to just jump right into Extrude/Cut first. even if I decide I want to just make a reference sketch, just escape out of the feature after the sketch is complete and you're at the extrude/cut parameters and you have your sketch only. beauty of SW, there are 17 different ways to get the same result!
Sorry, I didn't want to harm you, I know perfectly well that this parts and drawings are for learning only purpose, but I think that you should go with more care because there are inexperienced people who could find that this way of work is correct and this is not true. Your videos are all great.
Hey Steve thanks SO MUCH for the value for value! Glad you're enjoying the tips and tricks!! You're support goes a long way towards helping the channel! Take care man!
