Maybe Codemasters should have kept and updated the side-view mirrors from the PS1 era for better situational awareness beyond the 3rd's cockpit limited panning left/right look buttons . The red arrow for traffic positional awareness helps some, though.
This game on Hard mode and Pro-handling is absolute suicide haha, but it's very fun. This game is a lesson of how a simcade should be,with a lot of content and a single player campaign.
Well there is plenty of that pain to be seen throughout the rest of the series😂 I totally agree, it's great fun! Lots of good features and ideas that could be utilized nowadays, I think this format for a game combined with modern technology for graphics and physics would be incredible!
When on hard mode and pro handling, I'd say a force-feedback steering wheel is a requisite. That's where I really am enjoying it online currently on my PS2 using a Logitech wheel and pedals from later in the era. Have definitely found that setting correct volume levels of sound effects/engine, etc. helps to hear the tires when they lose traction to afford a far better awareness of what's going on when coupled with a decent enough force-feedback wheel with dead zone and range set appropriately.
Hey James! It's a great game isn't it? I am currently using the logitech G29 and it works perfectly, you probably need to set the degrees of rotation to around 360 and the handling does take some getting used to, but I'm getting there. It also runs perfectly on windows 10. I hope you enjoy the rest of the series!
Yay thanks for this! I was looking for decent playthrough of this game on the wheel for years! :-D It seems like the brake-lock and understeer issue is more to do with the wheel, maybe it's not set-up properly or is not compatible?
Am using wheels and pedals online via a PS2 currently here. Haven't done all of the offline content yet though much of it. Have decent enough detail / fidelity and strength (set to "High") in the feedback on my era wheel and pedals. It is what it is but I still enjoy it. 👍
@@leaf427 , That handicap level makes me wonder if it's variable dependent upon controller versus wheel and pedal use. I know that if you set the AI difficulty above 100% that there is much more bumping and rubbing let alone it doesn't know how to not dive into you when you are clearly leading into the corner, etc.
@@That_Handle Yeah. CPU cars rather avoid crashing into player cutting the corner. That make sense because of limited visibility on TV screen. But on the other side CPU recompensate cheating on laps times. E. g. On longer races (when PITstops were mandatory) I saved some HUGE time PITing once instead of twice.(I dont remember exactly mechanism in which I saved this precious seconds, I played 10 years ago, but I suspect that second PiT was just going through without servicing my car.) What is important : After last PiT I had 5 sec. lead over next car and what does CPU? CPU magically improves times of my oponent by 2 sec. on last 3 laps !!! Out of nowhere!!! We both know what 2 sec. in racing sports means - imposible!!! Pure cheating. And I played on pad on standard settings and difficulty as far as I remember.
I love this game, but i have a problem. I can't save car setup. Game stays active but it does not react to Esc button and only way to close it, is from task manager. Any ideas how to fix it?
I still had a version through Steam from back in the day, and it ran flawlessly from the get-go for me! Sorry I can't be more helpful, hopefully someone else in the comments can assist :)
Hey! No it's actually through steam unfortunately. I have had the game on my account for years so even though it now appears to be unavailable to get hold of, it's in my library.
