Todays FIAT Panda 4x4 Cross - we are still trying to work out how its so good off road !

Pete our 2021 FIAT Panda 4x4 cross has 15 inch steel wheels and Michelin Latitude Cross all season tyres.
Our Mitsubishi L200 is much more "analogue" - you choose the mode and it's obvious what will happen, not so the little Panda. Showing the Mitsubishi working, so easier, but we want to see the Panda thinking, that's proving very difficult !
The tyres and more challenging challenges, continue to ask the question, how is this little FIAT Panda so good ?
The new Michelin Latitude Cross tyres are expensive, but wow they are making more of a difference than we imagined - with growing confidence in our little mountain goat, we keep trying to see the systems in action.
So here we go again, sorry !!
We love off road - so join our adventures as we prepare our vehicles in the workshop and drive the tracks here in the stunning Algarve region of Portugal.
Dropping in the occasional "off piste" video when something tickles us, as we look at other vehicles, workshop products to give you tips and practical advice on maintaining your pride and joy !

Let's see if u get tonight's comment. 🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔 I think u deleted them from the last vlog on purpose as punishment for the wind ups I dish out ☺️☺️☺️☺️☺️☺️☺️ The logs weren't much of a test even for the hairdressers car...... I could smell the clutch ere in Blighty tho 🙊🙊🙊🙊🙊🙊🙊 POP for the L200...... Just like going up a curb. That gradient did look that high to make Murdoch's back wheels spin, even in rear wheel drive. I see your comments - but mine are so good, YT clearly dont want you over excited 🤣 Was not our finest episode Alan, but with Nath's head permanently stuck under an ML's bonnet, we need to put out everything we do, even the 💩! That whole area was obliterated by last weekend trial bike meet - Mrs. M. and I were out with the dog and wandered back that way (have Panda will stick to the dirt) to find 100+ campervans with their bikes, tents and motor bike crud in that exact spot - they must have played on the logs like us, but totally gone and shredded to nothing but mud and dust ! Massive machines, sounded great to me, Mrs. M. not so much 🤣 but they set a course all around the hills we muck about on, had a competition all weeknd - so we are planning to see if we can follow the course in our cars tomorrow as they taped it out. Yet another week gone !! Have a great weekend J&N

I did - very tasty stuff - I had already ordered ours, so when we get round to fitting you can tell me what you think - they look chunky and are a weight !! Need some desperately for Pete - took it off today, has a large dent / bend so that will get bashed back into place this weekend - was checking under as the exhaust has taken a whack and split a weld, so the hairdresser needs to visit poor old Pete !!

Out having fun again guys! Cars looked like they made fairly easy work of that challenge, as ever I’m mighty I’m impressed with Pete the standard city car Nothing worse than the smell dog 💩 in a car, I guess not helped by the smell off a slipping clutch, nice Thanks for sharing guys Ace 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿🤟

Evening Ace Luckily the whiff got to me before I got to Pete - so the boot was in the stream !! Not really a challenge as it turned out - but cleaning mine, for its first service is proving to be a serious challenge - we spent 3 hours with the pressure washer and there is still bits of tree, stones and gunk all under it - as Nath has now deserted me for the weekend, I will be under it with a scrubbing brush tomorrow - then a plastidip respray of the plastic fake skid plates and a hammerite of the engine one (once I have hammered it back into shape , its not looking so good ! ) Shame no one makes aftermarket skidplates, I can only find ones for the 169 model - my metalwork skills are non existent !! Hi Jon I’ve only seen skid plates for the older model, I’ve changed the bolts for stainless, but not got around removing the sump guard to rub it down and smoothrite paint it, it currently looks a bit rough, but not as bad as what you’d expect with Fiats Old Reputation 🤣, maybe an opportunity for Nath and Yourself to fabricate and sell some? What I have seen online for these cars are being sold on websites that look so dated Looking at this video, the tyres although fantastic Road Winter tyres, they look like your weak link for going more hardcore, But then as you’re actually using the car on road, do you want to compromise the road behaviour and noise or keep swapping wheels? Will you be happy with finding the limits of a totally standard car? Or do you put more extreme tyres on ( ouch more cost! ) and see what it can do? I have to admit I like my Cross as it is with all season tyres Have a great weekend, look forward to your next instalment Ace 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

Evening Ace Someone else suggested mud slinging tyres - like the idea and might get the moths out the wallet !! When I eventually get round to flogging the JEEP - I am planning on a "old smoker" daily driver, have a massive want for and old Grand Cherokee or Merc TE ... 80's vintage - then Pete can have shitty road use mud slingers !! like it !! Today (tomorrow I will have changed my mind) but a 300TE estate auto - rusty but clear coat over, does tickle my fancy - another car for Mrs. M. to hate 😂

Morning Just had the first cup of Java😋 You can’t beat a quality old car, cheap as chips, galactic miles and still feel like new, my other half has a new Mercedes I love it, such a nice car ( A Class 180 D AMG ) , I was a V.A.G man & not a Mercedes’ or BMW not really a fan, just to confuse you take a look at A6 Avant, A8 , VW Phaeton or a Tourag all AWD all done in the 3.0 V6 I do think mildly modifying Pete with Tyres, slight lift and maybe longer shocks would make it very capable off road, and maybe there would be some fairly keen interest from the Newer Panda 4x4 owners, not sure if there is a mass of people, but there’s currently a lot more info out there about modifying the older models, the 15” Tyres I’ve seen that look very capable off road with a larger open tread pattern look like they may cause slight clearance issues under the arches but I guess it would be fit and then see what happens 😂 I found a Japanese Panda on Pinterest with some Nankang Mudstar tyres, they are done in a 15”, they look impressive, watched some fairly positive reviews about the tyres on You Tube too, I don’t think there is availability in the uk though Good Luck with the journey Ace 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

Morning Ace. Rare day a home for me - so only pod coffee 😭 Been very lucky in work life to have a fair access to cars (not needing to part with my hard earned) as many clients were Manufacturers & would normally under my pressure let me have a go or lend me one !! We have a Tcross now, but I have had a GTi & GTD (Passat VR6 was a laugh) so liked (past tense) a VW - had some Audi's, a Touareg in a cocktail dress (Cayenne) but these were all loaners or sacked staff cars I grabbed for a few weeks to try them (the list is almost endless when I think back - very lucky !) I would describe a 2015 GTD as almost the perfect car - everything you need in a quality fast package. With my own hard earned - in the UK I tended to contract hire, normally a BMW or Merc - I owned (well me and Lloyds bank) a few, when contract hire was daft cash - last UK car was an M140i, mental, if ever a car needed 4WD that was it ! VW's here are not super common here (Phaetons are almost a rare bargain) but I do have a bit of an old Merc thing, also sold to leave Blighty was my 1987 SEL Merc, and miss it badly ! Fantastic day here - not to ruin your Sunday lunch, but the speedo's are on and I am off outside to get some rays !! 😎

If you really want to test the "stock" Limits, just try the Fedima F/OR in you Panda. The difference in the grip will be huge!

Ha ha - Mrs. M. (or "lucky" as all her friends call her🥳) tells me I will turn into Quasimodo as I spend all my time looking so I do not stand in anything ! Lucky it was gone (in the stream) before Pete suffered any whiff !!
