Wow. So glad I “just stumbled” onto this clip 7 years after it was made! Don’t ask “What does that verse mean to me?” Ask “What did the writer intend it to mean and how does that Truth impact my life?” Radically different questions, leading to radically different results!!! THANK YOU!
Mark 13v10 "And the gospel must first be preached to all the nations" this has still to be done GooglePlus.. Jesus also says in v13 "And you will be hated by all for my names sake. But he who endures to the end shall be saved. its looking like you hated me for His name sake.. v14 also says "so when you see the abomination of desolation spoken of by Daniel the prophet standing where it ought not let the reader understand then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains. GooglePLus the abomination spoken prophet Daniel is still to come to pass.. so im very sorry to let you know that you are wrong :-( but keep reading the Bible as the truth will sat you free my friend :-)
GooglePLus are you reading the Bible upside down or something like that ? Mark 13 v 30 is talking about the Generation of people living during the end times that will witness the end events leading to the return of Christ.. this is still to happen. The sun has not become as sackcloth or the moon has not give up its light.. There has been no abomination of desolation standing in the temple as the third temple has yet to be built!!! And the great tribulation has not started yet you really need to go back and read the Bible my friend I hope the Lord Jesus Christ opens your eyes.. God bless you in Jesus name GooglePLus ;-)
The only thing that could block out the sun and the moon is a nuclear explosion or a comet that will cause a catastrophic event I hope this helps you understand.
This is a misunderstanding of Derrida and deconstructionism. Deconstruction is not that someone can freely interpret text or art independantly but rather what the relationship between the reader and the writer consists of and what biases and social constructs are built into those relationships. By breaking down to analyze these biases, Derrida thinks we get closer to true meaning. This also applies to your call to biblical hermeneutics. Proper understanding of the authors intention can be made more clear once underlying biases are revealed.
I agree with Todd as far as interpreting the text. But sometimes when people ask the question, "what does this mean to you" they are talking about application. The text has one meaning, one intent to convey. But out of these there could be a myriad of applications for our modern lives.
Excellent points! When somebody writes something, they have an intended idea to communicate. Deconstructionism reminds me of when Satan said, "surely you won't die." He's shifted the simple command of God to put the emphasis on self love. God knows best, He always has. All have gone astray and we continue to pay the price.
This guy is always so critical and finding more problems that overshadows the Promises of God. Bible says to edify, exhort and comfort. Nothing wrong with correction but how about we build and then we can correct from there.
Yes!!! The author's original intent -- There can be more than one application of Scripture but only one interpretation (what it was originally written to mean)
The Word says that the helper,Holy Spirit will guide us in all truths,His laws and ways are written on our hearts when we ask Christ into our hearts, recognizing not one of us on our own can ,(without Christ)deserve any mercy from God,we are sinners.
Also applies to a lot of modern so called "translations" of the Bible. Instead of trying to find the English word that most literally matches the Hebrew or Greek word, they use the "thought for thought" approach. This is nothing more than the publishers opinion of what God MEANT rather than exactly what God SAID. I've even seen modern western idioms used and I thought to myself, "Hmm, what are the chances that "I'm at the end of my rope" is actually in the text ?"
I hear that Todd, People are so eager to gobble up propaganda and the latest trend at the expense of their souls. I am so glad God has healed my heart! (YAY) and mind. Their curt rehearsed retorts don't hurt me now. I just pray for each person that tries to push my buttons.
And one of my personal favorites, when you step in with insight on what the author actually said and meant in context with consistent systematic hermeneutics, they respond with, "that's just your interpretation". Lol it's not just deconstructionism, it's "make it say anything else other than that to dismiss my rebellious lifestyle-ism".
Well done, and I would add the role government of schooling' in this method of deconstructionism as well. That is the tool the Fascist in Germany won with the major support of the people.
Todd Friel is actually a christien. he isn't refuting Christianity but simply saying we need to understand Christianity and what the scriptures are actually saying. There are many Christians and atheists that misinterpret God's Word. The full picture is important as opposed to puzzle pieces.
It might be useful for me to reflect on what I think it means, but yes, what's important is what God intended by it. Respecting the human author's intentions is also important in discovering meaning.
A big problem with agnosticism is people not knowing what it is that takes us up or down when our bodies are gone. It's the "manner of spirit ye are of' as in John 9:51-6 "...it came to pass, when the time was come that he should be received up, he stedfastly set his face to go to Jerusalem, & sent messengers before his face. They entered into a village of the Samaritans to make ready for him & they did not receive him, because his face was as though he would go to Jerusalem. When his disciples James & John saw this, they said, 'Lord, wilt thou that we command fire to come down from heaven & consume them, even as Elias did?' Jesus turned & rebuked them saying, 'Ye know not what manner of spirit ye are of!...the Son of man is not come to destroy men's lives, but to save them!' And they went to another village..."
Is there really anything like a bad bible study. At least these bible studies are looking at the word of God. Do you not have enough faith in the word for it to do its job? Instead of criticizing you should be encouraging.
God has lots of layers going when He talks to us personally, & unless you're "of a reprobate mind", then His "word returns not void" unto Him. I've been to some very nice Bible Studies where they really were encouraging people to share about the different good things we can all get from one verse. I guess what you're saying is that God is not subject to our trends & we should have sincere hearts & good motives when we get together to strengthen one another & it's only in the Truth that we can succeed. (:D
***** In other words you've decided hope has no meaning. Riddle me this: do you know what the word, "hope" means, & do you remember what it feels like to have some?...
I can't figure out what I said to get the mee person so upset...was it to mention the fact that someone can become reprobate? That is common sense also. If you can walk towards Perfect Goodness with a humble heart, you can also walk away in pride & become hardened. These concepts aren't rocket science, & little children look at the stars & wonder "Where did I come from?" & "Why am I here?" We awaken in a world we begin to realize has problems, & our response can be "What can I do to Help?"...why not? (:D
meerak7973 You seem troubled...what happened to your comment...and my apology, lol? God is the Creator & when He brings new creativity to our paradigm, we see it as a miracle. Miracles happened in PLENTY in the hours during & after God Was Crucified! There was a full eclipse of the moon (in which it appears blood red, I viewed one myself, rising over the sea this latest Passover, which was on April 3, the actual anniversary of Good Friday. It was an amazing sight!...Jesus is returning SOON!!! :) On that original day, there was also darkness for three full hours, & an earthquake that tore the veil of the Holy of Holies in the Temple! It opened graves & the people in them walked again in the same power that was resurrecting the Son of God!!!...my belief is that they still walk among us, but are either wise enough not to make it publicly known, or simply aren't believed, should they confide it to anyone. God can transport you anywhere, make you live as long as He wishes, in health or suffering: He Is Sovereign! You can fight Him or make peace with Him, but He won't let you hurt others just to further your own comfort! So I have answered your "generation" issue...the people that were raised "Lazarus style" at the crucifixion are still around & will no doubt be pointed out & acknowledged by Christ, Himself, when He returns in clouds, the same way He ascended out of the sight of men when He rose from the dead! There are lots of believers commenting on this Christian video...why have you picked on me to take offense? Have I touched a nerve? Are you convicted of your sinfulness unto repentance & Salvation?...
meerak7973 Fanatics who agree with you are beheading Christian children now, which shows that the predicted End Times are looming. You must change your mind about Jesus or face The Beast!!!...who will say he agrees with you, but he doesn't LIKE you...or any other Human Being...
TrainsAreFun True believers who have personally met Yahushua, as I have, know Him for our King, & that He is so compassionate that He compares to the rest of Humanity as a lamb in nature. He is meek to us because He loves us & doesn't want to hurt us. That is what God is like. :)
I love this dude but this video isn't the best thing he's done. I agree we should respect the truth of the word, and not try to morph it to our times or whims. But, he doesn't mention how you can read the same passage over again and each time the Holy Spirit may reveal something new to you, which is the Holy Spirit's job.
This is one of the most over simplistic and ignorant understandings of what deconstructionism means, it is not just one thing, one part of deconstruction may be simply looking at the historical context in which a certain text arose, there is a lot more to say on this but I encourage people to do some research.
Good point. I do like some of the modern art though. It seems similar to God's work in the cosmos as seen through the Hubble space telescope. It has a kind of attractive randomness. But I get what you're saying.
Well, this is all true but i think it also means that there are simply some parts of the bible where we dont know what it really means or what God intended by it. we just think we know... or we're guessing. We run into just as many problems and bad bible studies with people that are so sure of what certain passages mean when no one really knows.
Utter piffle. This man doesn't have the first clue what he's talking about. Maybe deconstruction is rubbish. Maybe not. Whichever. You won't find out if you don't try to understand it.
This is pure nonsense, and the production is so cheap I am really left to wonder whether we are actually watching the result of a form of fraud. Where did the money go?
there is plenty evidence for god. every person can come to know God through the revelation of Jesus Christ. if you come to know Jesus Christ then you will know God. the book of john in the new testament is the engine room of coming to know who Jesus Christ is. it's most simple no need to complicate the matter.
"Don't think for yourselves, do exactly what I tell you". Err, no. Thankfully the day is coming when religion will be afforded the same place in history as believing the world is flat and that the sun spins round the earth.
in 1968 president mao burned all the Christian seminaries and kicked out all missionaries from China and said religion will never haunt China again. it's 2016, mao is dead and buried and the church of Jesus Christ in China is the fastest, strongest and most explosive church in the globe. keep dreaming about christianity dying out. rulers and kings come and go but the king of kings and Lord of Lords Jesus Christ reigns forever.
+lionofthetribe1 A couple of things. First of all, Islam is by far the fastest growing religion. It's projected that by 2050 there will be more Muslims than Christians in the world. Islam is also fiction, but this stat is just a point of reference. Secondly, in 1994, 94% of Americans identified themselves as belonging to some religion. By 2014, it was down to 84%. Young people + internet = the dying out of Christianity. The internet is Raid for religion.
My dear friend im sorry you don't know what Jesus Christ taught nor who he is and claimed to be. It's why u say what you do as you certainly have not a clue. Keep living in America the epi centre of your world. America has nothing to do with christianity living and breathing. Perhaps buy a plane ticket and visit the rest of the world as there is life outside America incase you have not realised.
+lionofthetribe1 I've been to many European countries. It hasn't made any impact on my beliefs in the least. I haven't seen anything that could possibly draw me to religion, thanks anyway.
