Todd looks sharper every time i watch this. Need more videos. What he did in amateur boxing should not be forgotten.

One of the saddest stories I have ever witnessed in my life. I mean, when we were in the amateurs, Todd, was, in a word, BRILLIANT! I was never close with him. We'd go from Cleveland to Akron in the amateur days to train with mr. Hickman. Mr. Hickman was a WONDERFUL human being. FULL of optimism. He had a rottweiller named Dog. His movie hero was John Wayne and he said he had a dog named Dog. Todd is the one who taught me how to throw up without sticking fingers down throat to make weight. You could always sense something. It just didn't seem things were right. Like there was a lot of tension with the Hickman family. I stayed with mr & mrs. Hickman when I first turned pro for a short while. It was a little less than a year after Todd died. Mrs. Hickman said me being there was hard. I totally understood. Anyhow, instead of being mentioned with, at the VERY LEAST, world champions, if not great ones, Todd is little known outside his era in the amateurs. Todd Hickman is a GREAT lesson for kids. Mrs. Hickman committing suicide was another twist in the tragedy. One of the greatest amateurs ever. 2 pro fights. Shot dead in the head in parents driveway over a crack deal in October of 1989. Charlie Brown? Hope life is treating you well. Sharmba, Ian, I hope and pray you have found peace

I use to fight with Derrick, he could have been one of the greats had he had trained harder and stayed out the streets.

Todd was Like The LeBron James of boxing he had hands as fast as Sugar Ray Leonard stanima like a mountain lion and as tough as a honey badger I had met Todd in the 6th grade when we became friends and I had seen the talent then we boxed in the bathroom and he had hit me 6 times before I could get a punch off I thought I was boxing a lighting rod that could strike at any given instant of time RIP my friend

Todd shoulda, woulda, coulda, been a multi world champion who made tons of money. Instead, he turned pro, had 2 fights, and got shot in the head over a crack deal in his parents driveway in Oct, 1989.

I agree. I spent a lot of time with the Hickman's when I was a kid. We used to come from Cleveland and spar. I worked with Todd, I remember a kid, Franky Washington(his dad was a real nice guy), I used to work with Joe Walker, those are some names off the top of my head. We're goin' back between 1980 and around 85. I saw mr. Hickman at a pro fight show at the IX center in Cleveland not long before Todd was killed. Anyhow, not trying to argue anything at all. Bottom line is, people could be comparing Mayweather, jr. today, to Toddd Hickman of the generation before. Instead, only die hard boxing fans with 45 plus years on them have any recollection of Todd. Why? Stupid, retarded, shit, period. I talked to a guy from our region not long ago who I hadn't heard from in over 20 years. He had a good career, beat a couple world champions, won a couple national titles. Me? One national title pro career was a bust. Point is, as I'm talkin' to this guy, we talk about Todd, Sanderline Wlliams, different guys we came up with and as we're talkin 'he goes,"ya know, boxing destroyed our lives." I couldn't agree more. I'm thankful and grateful to have spent 27 years in the fight game. Strictly because it taught me how to deal with every kind of maggot on the planet, how to get to their level, it taught me 98.9%of the world is ball-less and if you crack a loudmouthed, thug, bitch, with a couple quick left hooks and a right hand he will admit he is your bitch. Other than that, boxing is a necessary evil on planet earth. If I had it to do over I would have quit fighting at 15 like I considered. Instead, I waited till I was 25 and well, by then, as you said yourself,"he was still caught up in the streets." Peace to you and yours, my friend
