We are starting to deal with trantrums now. My daughter is almost 18 months. I didn't expect this so soon. She's in early intervention for gross motor delay, but our PT warned us that she might start showing these behaviors earlier bc she's really ahead in speech and pretend play. The first time was at the grocery store when she was mad that I told her she had to ride in the cart bc my back was hurting too much to carry her. OMG she let out this LOUD scream and looked up at me with this look of pure hatred in her eyes lol. My husnamd wanted me to pick her up but I just told him no.....we are going to finish out shopping and I told her I could pick her up once we got to the register. She cried the whole time until I picked her up. I gave her a hug and told her she was growing up to be a big girl and that mommy can't always hold her. We all made it out in 1 peice.

Proud of you for holding your boundary, I know it can sometimes be tough to do so especially when the tantrum is in public!

Useful info! Can you please make a video about young toddlers that bite and hit having NEVER been bitten or hit by anyone or witnessed that behavior. Thank you Doc!

Yes I cover this in my toddler tantrum course but will add it as a possible topic for future RU-vid videos. It is so common for toddlers to react physically when they don't know how to express their emotions. Helping them name their emotions but holding boundaries "You're feeling mad. It's ok to be mad but it's not ok to bite. If you bite me again I have to move away to be safe" and hold the boundary. Also talking about better ways to express those feelings can be helpful after the fact. Hope that helps!
