This is probably my favorite fight in the anime. For me, there's a whole bunch of great future fights in manga, but alot of them just don't hit as hard in the anime for me. The anime adaptation of this one is just absolutely perfect.
The animation quality is all thanks to the legendary animator Yutaka Nakamura. I do not know what anime you have already reacted to, but there is a good chance you have reacted to some of his other works. One Punch Man (S1) and Mob Psycho 100 are very few examples I can remember right now.
As a side note: When an episode title is "[Character Name] : Origin", it means the point at which they realize not just why they truly want to be a hero, but also what path they want to take. Izuku knew from the start, which is why S1E1 is titled "Izuku: Origin".
The music is the cherry on top of an already incredible episode. "You Say Run" is one of my favorite tracks in ANY anime. It so perfectly sums up Deku's hero philosophy.
The fact that Midoriya is so passionate about taking a power that was never his to begin with and is willing to do anything to shape it into his own, makes this fight and moment so intense! The fact that he encourages Todoroki to use his true power not half and own it as his own, its his ice, his fire, not his moms and not his fathers, but Todoroki's. This is the absolute epitome of saving someone who is lost or struggling and picking them back up and encouraging them to be better. The Midoriya and Shoto bro ark has finally begun!
As much as this episode is about Shoto breaking his chains, Deku becoming his first friend, it also is the beginning of Bakugo's many, many, MANY layers starting to develop.
One of my favourite episodes this season. I don't visit it often because I don't want it to ever lose its magic lol. It's called Todoroki shouto origin, but also harkens back to Deku's origins. Watch out for those origin episodes! They're all great. About Bakugo, very fair. I don't think anybody expects you to love him right now, it's just nice that you're interested and trying to figure out his weird lil brain. This goes for most characters in the series. Even if you don't like them, try not to write them off. Horikoshi is good at character work, so he does interesting things with them.
In terms of animated scenes alone, I think this has to be one of the most high tension scene that never ceases to excite me, no matter how many times I watch it, especially with that music hyping it up even more. Goddamn how can something be so perfect.
mom was put into a mental hospital. The kind of mental hospital where rich people go, and the doctors don't comment on the obvious signs of abuse. After throwing the boiling water on Shoto's face his mom (Rei) used her quirk to put ice on the burn. NOTE: DO NOT PUT ICE ON A BURN it increases the odds of tissue damage and scaring.
She wasn't just "put" into a mental hospital, she went voluntarily out of shame for what she did to her child. Involuntary commitment in Japan requires some pretty high level approval and likely would have trumpeted the truth of events to the public. Despite his callous attitude when telling Shoto where she was it wasn't himself he was protecting so much as Rei. She could have done 10+ years in prison for what she did to Shoto and he kept that quiet, allowing the public to assume he had caused the scar in a training accident. Also this is a one-sided version of events, the memories of a 6 year old recalled through a decade long grudge. Endeavor striking his wife is certainly inexcusable but he isn't the one who threw boiling water in Shoto's face and his training seems about like the superhero equivalent of what parents who put their kids into elite level gymnastics are doing.
“What is he gonna do? Break his entire body?” Ma’am, meet Izuku Midoriya. He’s a lunatic. His default strategy is “can’t kill me if I kill myself first.” Still an all-time top 5 episode for me, though that race gets close. Deku standing up with at least a dozen shattered bones, telling Shoto he hasn’t landed a single blow on him, and doing the “COME AT ME BRO!” is such a great fucking moment. Easy to miss some details even on rewatch. Todoroki really has no hands to speak of. He has an insanely powerful Quirk and knows how to use it, but as soon as he meets an opponent who can tank it, the man cannot box to save his life. Not a character criticism, mind you, I just had a false memory of him being presented as a god in Season 2 when he’s really always been more of a glass cannon. You also see how All Might inspired everyone, not just Deku, and how Todoroki really took “I am here” to heart in a very different context that was just as meaningful. God, this show is so good.
Yeah they don't really make Todoroki's weaknesses super clear to purposefully make him seem an impossible force to overcome. Even up until now they fully reveal one of his weaknesses only for him to suppress it. They do present him as a god, but he's always been more of a glass cannon and they leave evidence like that so you can tell otherwise if you have a keen eye or on a rewatch.
your wholesome reaction is what i look foward to watching everyday! I'm very stressed rn and watching your videos on mha has done wonders to my mental health❤ thank you so much
J'avais vraiment hâte que tu arrive à cette épisode ! Je voulais voir ta réaction. J'ai aimé voir Midoriya pousser Shoto à débloquer son potentiel. Et cette musique !!!
That title is right, this episode was peak! After so many seasons, this is still one of my favorites to rewatch. Everything was perfect, Todoroki’s tragic backstory, how you could feel the emotions, and how it all came together with him finally using his full power and even beating Midoriya.
GODD one of the best episodes of the early seasons. Todoroki is the best man. And Deku showing his sheer determination and motivating everybody else is so good. being Your reaction was great lmao I remember I was screaming also
This episode....... man I can never get used to it, the emotions, the action, the tactics, the animation, it just has everything, one of my favorite episodes of anime.
Growing up watching Dragonball and it's myriad extensions Z, GT etc....the fight between these two is WAY COOLER than anything in those shows, imo. The evolution of anime has been amazing. If your patreons can see this, have her watch Akira.
Bold statement about Endeavor, lets see how you'll feel about that in a few seasons 🤣 Deku vs Shoto is definitely also one of my favorite fights of the entire show aninationwise and thats only the tip of the iceberg 🔥
Gods I tear up at that musical swell every time. this episode is so good. Also, I get that there are a lot of sub/dub purists ou tthere, but this show and this episode especially is just better in english, imo. The performance is so fucking good
Love how even in the middle of the fight, Shoto takes the time to use his ice to make a cast around Deku's broken arm. They're both trying to save each other.
Bakugo has massive main character syndrome. Him and Deku's different personalities are pretty well summed up in how they see almight. For Bakugo he is the strongest and for Deku he is the one who always saves the day. They're both right but those are two very different things.
Actually you can put it in another way . All might for Bakugo is " Win to save " , and for deku , its " Save to Win" Bakugo thinks , if he defeats his opponent without any casuality and injury , you automatically saved the people in the chaos . Deku thinks , if there is a chaos , he has to save people and get them evacuated first , then its victory for him , even if the villain beats him in 1 on 1 fight. Thats why Bakugo wants an indisputable victory everytime , if he didnt get one , then for him , it means he couldnt save everyone . It means there would be casualties.
I know old comment, but I like the dub version slightly more for this entire moment because Todoroki's awakening goes this way: "It's your power, not his" - Deku they both power up and Todoroki says: "I see that now, thank you." (With the thank you starting to blend into the action very subtly)
It's interesting, I fluctuate between which version I prefer. The first one fits Deku more I think because in the sub he tends to be more insecure and end things with questions, and I think that fits the start of his arc better. It also allows for todoroki to be the one to answer that question himself, since Deku wouldn't know the circumstances to be answering that assertively. But the dub does feel and sound more powerful, and it directly addresses endeavor more. English dubs do tend to make the the characters more assertive like how goku got changed to be a little more aggressive to villains about protecting earth back in the day, so I can see why they took Deku in that angle here, it fits the story better than it did in dbz.
Dailouges in DUB are far better than the SUB version in this show . They really do justice to the show . Most people who claims that this anime is one of their favourite are actually dub watchers for a reason
@@Youalrightboi lmfao hell no, there are multiple big moments where the dub team just changes the dailogue and its awful, main one that comes to mind is endeavor seeing deflated all might for the first time, im fine with the voices but taking liberties with the writing when you're not the writer blows my mind
*Abusive father and favoritism of certain sibling *Scar from a parent in exact spot of their face *Dysfunctional families *fire ability *cold and distance till they warm up to the MC and group *hate their fathers but adored their mothers *separated but then reunited with their mom's *father's forces their moms into arranged marriages I never realize how much Zuko and Todoroki are damn similar😮😮
This is my favorite battle, I'm watching the anime again thanks to you, I love your reactions 👍🏻. I recommend (to watch in the future): Doctor Stone and Black Clover, they are good animes. Or maybe the Avatar show The Last Airbender and its sequel Avatar The Legend of Korra 😁🙏🏻💯
I think it's only right that I let you know that Bakugo's last fight was the last time he call her pink cheeks from that episode on he called her by her name just shows that he respects her now It's interesting if you pay attention to the episodes you realize who he gained respect for throughout the seasons It was a very nice touch to the english dub
I still don't like him. I understand him and his purpose in the story, and I respect what he brings to his work, but that's not the same as liking him.
@@miahan8988 owe . then why do you hate him ? you dont owe any hate to him either. Its about the character . we disliked him earlier because of his choices in his life . We love him now , because of the same reason . The choices of a man makes him who he is .
17:30 - Worry not. Bakugo's arc is very well handled and very satisfying. It's also very interesting given his character. You have a lot to look forward to.
Best anime 'high five'! I believe Shoto's (and his family) arc is the best MHA has to offer. Bakugo is a 'love or hate' character. Never grew on me, personally.
Imo this is still a top 2 fight in the entire show, although my 1 might be a bit controversial (I won't spoil it though). Without spoilers, the todoroki family storyline is my favorite B plot throughout the entire show. This also might be controversial, but it contains the best character writing in the show.
10:30 in DEFENSE of Rei (Shoto's mother), after suffering Endeavor's ab*se (no idea which words YT flags 😅), whatever kind it may have been, for soooo long and (you heard about the siblings and saw them playing in one flashback, so no spoilers here 😅) having to continue bearing children for him [*** I got a bit dereailed ***] (which by itself is obviously no easy task, props to all the moms out there, especially the ones, who choose to repeat that whole ordeal 😅😅 [childless, 22 year old woman speaking here, I don't have personal experience, feel free to correct me 😅🤣] ) ***Okay, I'll just repeat my sentence without all the brackets, so it's easier to read (sry, I have autism and ADHD) 😅😅🤣 In DEFENSE of Rei Todoroki, after suffering (whatever kind of) ab*se by Endeavor for SOO many years and pretty much being forced to have more children until one comes out "perfect" in Endeavor's eyes (there is a whole lot more backstory, but that would be extremely spoilery 😅😅🙃🤣), you can totally understand that her mind is just broken, no matter how much she tried to stay strong. (You might wonder why she wouldn't just leave, but that will be revealed in due time 😅🙃) THAT morning, when a young Shoto went (tiredly) into the kitchen, where his mother was talking to her own mother about her worries in the relationship and family.... there is an important thing to take note of (that makes even more sense after Season 6 or 7 😅😂)... while Rei was talking about the "horrible eyes" (as we at one point [whenever] get to see, for example when another child didn't turn out the way he wanted to and he just haaaaad to try the next time, the way Endeavor looks at Rei (who has grey eyes) with his bright teal/blue eyes, it's just absolutely horrifying. Now, Shoto did "finally" get the desired combination, but he also has heterochromia (hope I didn't write that wrong), one eye grey, one eye blue.... When he was coming through the door and the kettle was boiling, ALL Rei could see was the side with the blue eye, which is why he looked SO much like Endeavor to her in that moment... (Not excusing what she did, but she was driven to that point by Endeavor and (smth they don't really show in the Anime) the SECOND she realized what she did, she tried her best to cool Shoto's burns with her ice quirk) Sorry, I could write pages on this, I love the Todoroki family 😅😅🤣 Hope I managed to scoot around the spoilers 😅😅
Endeavor is such an interesting character because of how the authored uses him to deconstruct his own story. Right now is the golden age of heroes, his only true adversary is another hero, Almight, for the glory and prestige of being number one. But when the real danger comes and villains become a real threat to society and the heroes trying to protect society might actually lose.... Every character has to digest that and push forward including the bastard Endeavor because the people really need him like they didn't before.
I'm still pissed at this ending. In boxing or ufc, if the ref interferes then the match it called off. They got in the way and still called the match for shoto
10:37 is one of the few times where I actually happen to prefer the dub over the sub. NOT that the sub isn't fantastic here, heavens no. I just personally think the English take here hits me harder! "It's YOURS! Your quirk, not his!" like nah bro, stop, I'm already crying Been loving all these reactions! Glad you're continuing to enjoy the show 😊
I love the way the title card waits until Todoroki is finally ready to begin his hero journey for real! Such a good episode! Only thing I wished the subtitles did better was to clarify that Endeaver sent his wife to a Psych Hospital, he didnt beat her until she needed to be hospitalized. Hes an awful dude but he is still the Number 2 hero, he cant get away with anything too bad.
I tried to be as vague as possible, because I hate spoiling stuff for people, but still looove teason stuff a bit 😅😅🙃🙃 20:05 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 the way you guessed the correct season 🤣🤣🤣🤣 But DON'T worry, there won't be a typical "redemption" arc, it's a bit different, BUT now that the Manga has ended, for some damn reason Endeavor is in the Top 10-20 most popular characters and while his growth is great, I can never fully forgive him for his past
