Custom keyboards can be intimidating. But planning well and taking the risk can be so worth it. The TOFU 65 from KDB Fans is my first custom build an I could not be happier. I can't wait to build more in the future.

Dz60rgb v2, alu plate, dark green tofu, zealios v2 67g, orig cherry pcb mounted stabs (might change for screw ins). Everything is here except the foam from mkultra and 205g0 from 1up. I was trying to get a DZ65 but it was sold out after two hours of being notified and I couldn't wait any longer and I went for dz60 T-T.

Just finished my gf's Acrylic Tofu 65 with the DZ65rgb, brass plate, Zilents V2 62g, and EnjoyPBT grey keycaps. I'm still working on my Grey Tofu 65 with DZ65rgb and brass plate but waiting on my Holy Pandas and Kuro/Shiro keycaps.

Drop just put the Carina mechanical keyboard kit up. It's a hot swap but I don't mind. And just got some holy pandas to go along with it. Now I just need to find a keycap set to go with it 👍🏽

I am thinking about a Tofu65 with case foam and module foam, with a CNC aluminum plate and with a hotswap PCB.

Seems like a lot of us starting out try to research this quite a bit because things get expensive quickly. Also noticed how many people end up buying roughly the same things I did after going through hundreds of threads. I went with the Tofu 65, DZ65 RGB hot swap, brass plate, Zealios V2 67g (3204), and GMK stabs (205G0).

KBDFans is just such a great place to start with their kits. And it seems the wait for things to come in stock just isn't as long as group buys. Now that I've got my first custom board, I have a bit more patience to wait 6 months for a case to become available, lol

@@DetroitTech Was worried I would have to join group buys to get anything but luckily if you follow their discord they give updates on when things will come back in stock and when group buys start. Unfortunately, ePBT keycaps seem to be very hot items for the good sets so I wasn't able to get those and the keyboard was expensive enough.

Better be ready to pay a lot for them if you can find anyone selling them. Last I saw someone selling them, the base kit was $200 by itself.

Is youtube your main job or is it just a side passion? I am honestly surprised your channel is not at least 100x larger than it is in sub and view count. Keep up the good work, i'm sure the numbers will blow up soon enough!

I wanted to buy the black tofu but they were out of stock so I ordered the silver until I saw this video. That burgundy looks pretty slick and unique so I cancelled and ordered that instead.

Hi I want to build a tofu 65 with acrylic case so baaaaad. but opn seeing on site of a store selling a dz65 rgb v3, it says that it is compatible with tofu65 alum cases but not with acrylic ones? When I asked KBD fans yesterday they told me it is "now" compatible with acrylic case.. I am just quite scared to buy it cause I might end up buying the wrong one.. Did they update something on the pcb or the case? T_T cause I really want the acrylic case.. I might end up just buying the tofu60 if this happend T_T pls helppppp

Hey man great video but I have a question do you have to solder it or can you just have it there and just switch out the switch when you want?

This PCB is not hot swappable so you have to solder it. There are got swappable boards out there, just not this one.

Unfortunately, I have no idea. I've had it for a few years. I think I searched for 3440x1440 wallpapers and went on one of those sites. Maybe reddit... Sorry, it's just been so long

I thought the Tofu 65 was hotswappable? Did you have to solder?

There may be a hot swappable board available but I wanted to solder for this board.

Hey Detroit Tech, have a couple quick questions for you. First, do you know the size of the right-shift on this PCB/Plate? Is it 1.75u? And second, are the modifier keys to the left and right of the spacebar normal sized?

Looks like left shift is 2u. Modifiers in the right side are 1u.

I'm currently waiting on Durock stabs from China and holy pandas from Drop. For a case, I was able to grab a kb67 mkii in e-white in the last big drop. I also picked up 205g0, how difficult did you find using it was? From what I researched, most say it's not the easiest lube for a first timer, such as myself.

I definitely overlubed a couple switches and underlubed a couple switches but overall it wasn't too bad. I think the key with 205g0 is to just make sure to not overlube. Err on the side of too little. Even the ones that don't have enough lube feel really great.

@@DetroitTech apply very thinly. You can always apply more if you underlube. If you overlube, it's a pain in the a** and fixing it takes longer than lubing several switches (still doable though).

They're a PBT set off kbdfans but I don't see it on there anymore. I got them for only about $30! I think they were just getting rid of the last bit of inventory.
