It hasn't been long since I found your channel, but I appreciate the no frills and the "just the facts" approach. Of course the input from Forest and Wessie is essential.
We’ve been using Pioneer Pet Smart Cat litter after watching your review of different litters. It’s been life changing. It’s expensive but because you don’t have to throw it away, it’s actually a lot cheaper over time. And we don’t have to wash the litter boxes very often because everything clumps very fast and never stick to the litter tray. The odor control is phenomenal also. Thanks Mallory!
I just switched to the pine litter. It was a bit of a process but it's so wonderful to not have grit on the bathroom floor. I love that I can breathe and I am not filling my lungs with dust.
This litter peaked my interest and I would have tried a bag or two ...but I’m not a fan of subscription products, especially ones that are not customer service friendly ..so this company won’t be getting my business. Thanks for a great review.
Thanks for the wonderful review! I would love to try Tofu litter, but I don’t think my cat would take kindly to pelleted style litters. I did notice that the links are not working either. Another thing is that the cat on the bag is the same photo as on Dr. Elsey’s Premium Cat Litter. 😸
I wish tofu cat litter went more mainstream into retail stores so it can be easily acquired instead of a subscription service. You can find different brands of tofu cat litter on Amazon. I do like Tofukitty. Out of all the cat litters I've tried, tofu litter is definitely my favorite. Does great in containing odors, very easy to clean off, hardly any dust, low tracking, and is flushable. I was very skeptical about litters that say it is flushable and septic safe, but I decided to see how a small clump goes down the toilet. It definitely disintegrates and liquifies when flushed. TIP: Wait for the clumps to settle in the toilet water for a minute before you flush to give the clumps a chance to soften.
In Canada, Pidan brand tofu litter is available for sale at our local cat shelter. $14.99 CDN for a 14 lb bag. It is dust free, made of food grade natural soy pulp, has good water absorption, excellent odor control and flushable. Of course flushing the product down the toilet would depend on your plumbing and sewer system.

I got about 40 packs of these on a promo 2 years ago and didnt find them that great compared to the silicon type in terms of odour control. I also didnt like the green tea scented one. The yellow tofu litter smells a lot better, almost malty in comparison. Wouldnt be surprised if dogs would chow down on it! I guess one advantage is that the tofu litter is flushable, the clumps disintegrate in water.
Yeah but people want to get away from silicon/crystal type litters too because while they smell better and look prettier, the environmental impact really isn't much different from clay litters. Strip-mined, non-biodegradable materials. So dig it up here, pile it up over there...after processing with a ton of fuel. But in a plastic bag...and adding poop!😺
Not that I'm some sort of tree-hugging hippie, (ty Cartman, I always hear ur sweet voice guiding me lol), (tho I do love trees and hippies), I can just see where they're all coming from. I'm just looking for a litter alternative but looking at a litter box full of clay litter next to me. We're all just trying to survive with our furry friends.
I’m in the market for a tofu litter (for environmental reasons), but was so excited to try the TofuKitty litter. But they are closed on 4/30/2021.. Could you please review some more tofu litter options? It seems like a difficult market to grow in the States, but I’d really love to find one with steady inventory and reputation.
Hi Thank you so much! 😻😻 Just found your channel. I was watching the amount of litter that is used with each scooping as you filmed. I find it hard to wrap my head around 1 10# bag per cat per month. I use stainless pains. Honestly change them out for a clean pan almost everyday. I used to have a house and more pans out. Now in RV and 3 cats to one pan. No problem. I keep the pan very clean snd clean often through the day. I now use Tidy Cat unscented scoop-able. It takes about 160 lbs per month for 3 cat’s. Two cats are probably 15-18 lbs. the other maybe 10-12. They pee a lot. At $15 / 40 lbs that’s $60 per month. It appears to be lighter in weight. I’m retired with bad back. That would help but I find it hard to believe. I have purchased other “light-weight” litters. Still used a lot. How much would I need to get if this litter? Thank you again. I’ve subscribed to your channel 😻😻😻 🐈 Fay Kelley
Hi Fay, since your cats are pretty large and pee a lot, I'd say that you'll probably need 4-6 bags per month. The other factor to consider is the size of your litter box. If your box is big (larger than the 12" x 16" box Pretty Litter bags are intended to fill), you're going to go through Pretty Litter faster. Again, all things considered, I'd predict that you might need between 4 and 6 bags per month for your cats.
I just found your channel and wanted to know if you have tried the “Ökocat“ clumping cat litter? I do like it but it gets spread by the cats quite a bit. I prefer no clay litters, to be more environmentally conscious, but am looking for something that has the same qualities but won’t stick to the cat paws. It’s also quite expensive.
I like this litter a lot it’s the best with smell that I’ve tried so far but it gets everywhere and I’m over it it get in my best and everything trying to find something new tofu litter seems good but there aren’t a lot of reviews
Liked the idea of a Tofu litter but dislike subscription services so I ended up going with Michu. Not perfect but nothing is. Started with the clay she came with and hated it. Way to dusty and bad for the environment. Tried this and liked it but also tried the litter available on Jackson Galaxy's website, but it tracked way to much so went back to Michu. It does track but not as bad, the pellets don't hurt if you step on them and they're easy to pick up and toss back in the box or in the trash. I had considered SmartCat but there was one scary review on Amazon about it causing a blockage. My cat is an adult and not prone to eating litter but I didn't want to take a chance. Michu is water soluble and flushable (though I don't recommend flushing it) so I feel it's a bit safer and thus gives me piece of mind.
Sadly, TofuKitty is shuttering it’s business. I hope I can find a comparable litter. I’ve use rufus&coco WeeKitty before I found Tofu Kitty and it’s similar, but still produces a lot of dust!
Love the review! I really wish good cat litter was more budget friendly and easier to purchase. Maybe my cat's poops and pee just stink (lol) but even with his current litter, it can gather a smell after about a week or so.
Thanks, Hunter! We'll consider Okocat for a future video review. In the meantime, here's our written review of the brand: allaboutcats.com/healthy-pet-okocat-cat-litter-review
I was happy to see your review, I've been wondering about this stuff. Most of the tofu litter seem on the high side of pricing. Did you notice any bugs in the bags, that is one of the main reasons I shy away from the "natural" type litters. I used to use WBCL until I would find ants, bugs, etc. mixed in with the litter and also the amount of dust. During the summer was, for me, always the worst. I'm not a fan of subscription plans either. I was intrigued by the size of the pellets, are they soft? Currently I'm using Smartcat but don't like the grittiness of it. Once I can get kitty's usual litter The Good Earth I will switch back. Thank you for the review.
Hi Betty. I certainly didn't notice any bugs, but I live in an area that doesn't have a lot of them, especially in the winter. I imagine that you might have an issue with bugs getting into the tofu litter during summertime just as you might with corn-based litter. The pellets aren't exactly soft, but they are on the softer side compared to some other litter products.
Another good honest video! I'm thinking of getting a electric heating pad for my 17 year old, there are so many on the market and on Amazon. Would you have any suggestions?
Im loving your videos, Im a RVT and I think you are doing a great job. I wanted to request a video reviewing low cal/carb wet/dry diets for our large and in charge fatty's. Thanks for being awesome!!
@@AllAboutCatsYT Thanks I would love to see what pet store brands are good, as my fatty is getting older and I want to have options. Have a great day and weekend!!!
Yeah I used drelsley litter and a stainless box. Disaster! Not with the plastic box only the metal one… I’m looking for non cementing on the metal one….will give a tofu litter a try
Their website seems to be shut down and they haven't posted anything on facebook since january. Do you happen to have another brand you would recommend?
Hey there. Yes, TofuKitty is gone! I must have been one of the last people to order from them. Fortunately, there are a number of comparable products. Here's one option that looks decent: www.amazon.com/KAMYS-ZOO-AM-TOFU-Flushable/dp/B084X41RBZ/
Just in case you had not noticed, I left a comment on your review of the Cat Genie asking if you could review generic brand washable cat litter. I left links to some of the products.
Hi Timothy! I do remember that comment and apologize for the lack of response. We will consider doing a video on that in the future; it's a very interesting topic and I'd like to experiment with it. Thanks!
Curious… how many people actually care about customer service with their kitty litter? I’m in my 50’s- I’ve had cats my whole life and customer service has not been an issue… do you mean because it’s a subscription you need to speak with them?
Loved the video! All your review videos have been really helpful. I'm wondering if you know... will TofuKitty work well with the LitterRobot? Does it clump well enough?
Hi Sam, I haven't tested TofuKitty in the Litter Robot, but I think that it would be an iffy match. The TofuKitty tends to break apart and leave crumbs that would probably return to the litter bed. I'd prefer using it with a harder-clumping litter.
@@AllAboutCatsYT thank you so much for replying. Again i just want to say how much i appreciate your videos. Such a high quality of review video. Have you happened to come across a sustainable cat littler that clumps well enough? I'm trying to avoid the clay and silica based ones due to their environmental impact.
@@samhuf - I'm in the same boat, and I found one that might work. I searched high & low but the PETKIT Pura Max is one of the few self-cleaning litter boxes that allows eco-friendly litter like Tofu Litter! I love using pine pellets - I have two kinds, the natural ones and the reusable/washable ceramic ones - and despite them being amazing for non-tracking & odor control, it's still a chore to clean out litter. The only thing that's kept me from buying a Litter Robot or Leo's Loo Too is their requirement for clay litter. I can't stand the tracking from clay, I also get anxious about all the dust on my kitties respiratory tract (and mine), plus the constant sticking to bottom & sides of litter pan, but above all I just can't abide by the environmentally-damaging aspect of clay litter. So I'm relieved that there's a machine out there that takes an eco-friendly litter. Sadly, I think Tofu Kitty went out of biz, but there's other competitors out there who make soy litter. I'd check Chewy or Petco for other options. I'm just anxiously waiting for my paycheck to get the Pura Max. In the meantime, I've been looking at their other products bc they link them all on one app that you can track your pet's feeding, drinking, pooping, and sleep schedule, since they've got wifi electronic feeders & water fountains. The reviews look promising, which honestly is a relief bc after the whole scam behind iKuddle Litter Box and Petato's Footloose Litter Box, I've been extremely cautious with self-cleaning litter box companies. So far PETKIT seems as reputable as Litter Robot, try to look into them and see if they're a good alternative for you. Hope this helps👍
I really wish I could afford this I have 4 cats and 4 litter boxes to fill. I usually buy a 40 lb bag of clumping clay litter from chewy for $20 a month .
I have two cats and It's expensive to have to buy more than two bags of this type of litter for 31 days. Some of good quality cat litters are just way too small and expensive for multiple cat owners.
Hi Mallory! Will you be interested in trying the Pet Kit tofu litters in the future? I don't think there is anything on the market at the moment for tofu litter + activated carbon, therefore I am very interested to see how it performs with smell absorbtion. They also just released their new PETKIT 5-In-1 Active Carbon Mixed Tofu Litter which seems quite interesting as it already has deodorising pellets along with activated carbon mixed into the litter to help with smell.
Hello, I was subscribed to TofuKitty but I received email that they were going out of business so subscription was automatically cancelled and scheduled deliveries stopped, this was over a year ago. How are you getting this litter? I notice your video is 10 months old How is this possible? Many thanks
Hey there. I think I must have ordered one of the last bags-even while I was making this review, their site had become inaccessible to a degree, and I found out shortly thereafter that it's no longer available.
thank you for this! It's very cool that the litter is made from a by-product. I also don't like to use a subscription service though. Does anyone recommend another tofu litter brand that you can buy in the store or on Chewy? or is this brand especially good compared to others?
Hey there! I've only ever used TofuKitty and PetNF so I can't comment on the others, but you can get a tofu litter from Frisco (Chewy's house brand): www.chewy.com/frisco-tofu-clumping-cat-litter/dp/258625
Hy Mallory I remember that you did a review on Wildernesscat 🐾and do you still aplowd on that Chanel 😉and how often you need to clean yours cats litter box I clean it twice a week and when I change out the cat litter
Hi Glorija! You remembered that video-how cool! I've shifted focus away from Wildernesscat for quite a while and am not sure when we'll upload something there next. As for cleaning out the box, I think that once a month is reasonable, but once every two weeks is even better. It sounds like you have a good system!
@@AllAboutCatsYT yes I watch it a cuple of Times and I I have great sistem for cleaning the litter box♥️and can what litter you recomend for seniors beacuse my cat snezz a lot when she goes to do her bussnes🙊
Does any type of tofu litter attract bugs or mold? It's made from soybean correct? I've heard that some tofu litter can cause the growth of mold and or attract bugs. Has anyone ever had this problem? Or even their cats eating it? I want to switch to more of an eco friendly litter, but not if these things will happen.
my kitten doesn't like it, he smelled and to pee somewhere else. Since he is in the toilet training, I have to and use the regular mud litter, and open the training hole slowing, and captured the exceed litter by sealing my toilet with plastics bags. I also mix the tofu litter and mud litter slowly transition that.
Do you think that the Petkit Pura X Automatic litter box is something that you would review? it looks similar to the the Litter Robot, but it's slightly less pricey
@@AllAboutCatsYT btw I am currently trying out a combo of Sustainably Yours topped with the Weruva, and it's working great! The urine and feces clump & dry instantly with the SY but the Hinoki Wood helps with the odor control & litter getting everywhere.
Hi! Can you do a test on the catit pea husk litter? I think it sounds very similar to tofu litter and is available in a lot of countries without subscription
Hi there. Of the different products I've used, I've found that Dr. Elsey's Ultra is fairly low-scatter and low-tracking. You can learn more in our video on the best cat litter you can buy: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-k6EoklcDsYE.html
Hi there. Unfortunately, I don't have personal experience with whether or not it attracts bugs, but I think that your intuition is accurate-like other plant-based litter, you may likely see bugs infesting the bag. It's important to keep it sealed and dry. Thanks!
