I love how on the information bar in the Riku fight it says, "Defeat the mystery man!" Yet the health bar says "Riku."

you know what's even more heartbreaking, Nico? Xion's name sounds similar to a flower called Shion (edit: also known as Aster tataricus). In the Japanese language of flowers, it means "I won't forget you."

It did just occur to me that when Roxas fights Axel in KH2 and Roxas pulls out 2 keyblades, Axel is legitimately surprised as he had never seen Roxas use 2 keyblades, ever. I always thought it was strange that Axel seemed so surprised at the fact he had 2, since KH2 builds up the fact that they were friends, it's just a small thing, but it demonstrates a certain amount of foresight and planning on the writer's part.

I don't know why, but I real love Axel's line "Everybody thinks they're right..." it's just a line I always remember and it sends chills down my spine.

in the Kingdom Hearts II intro the shell she gives to Roxas that represents her is seen being washed away by the ocean, so no, they did plan her at least a little.

Ok, so i cant take that ice cream line Roxas says seriously any more. The first time my brother played this game and saw that line, and then Xion crystallized he said "you're the ice cream now." That ruined the whole thing

I don't comment much here, but here's some useful information: Quote from an interview with Nomura: _-Xion’s appearance changes depending on the relationship of the person looking at her. It seems that when that relationship changes, she changes._ *Nomura:* The figure Roxas sees is the same as what the player sees, but for example, when Xigbar and Saix see her, her figure is different. At first some people thought it was unnatural she would be wearing a hood and then not in the same scene, but I think you come to understand it as you advance through the game. *People connected with a certain person see Xion as ‘Xion’.* In the case of Xemnas, since he is connected to various people, he basically sees ‘Xion’, however sometimes he sees ‘him’. Who ‘he’ is, I want you to confirm it on your own. Xigbar also sees ‘him’. Also, Xion was planned ahead of time. Another quote: _-- How did you come up with Xion, who became such a key person in the storyline?_ *Nomura:* We showed how Roxas left Organization XIII in KH2. At the same time as we were polishing off the KH2 project, we had assumed to a certain extent what Roxas' movements were during the time period when Days happens, and thought that *"Roxas definitely left the Organization because of the influence of someone close to him." And, we thought that "someone" should be a girl his own age.* Flowing from that, we began to construct the storyline, beginning with Xion's existence. Hope it helped :)

Rewatching this LP after KH3 really makes me appreciate how much thought went into Xigbar's characterization years ahead of the big reveal. They really nailed him as a casual, relatively impartial observer.

They did subtly mention Xion In KH2, at least in the Final Mix version: After that bossfight against Roxas in The World that Never Was, there is that cutscene of Axel and Roxas talking on the clocktower, remember? At some point, Roxas said something like this: "Maybe We all actually do have hearts. You, me... maybe even *her*" At that point, you naturally assumed he was referring to Namine, but most likely he was referring to Xion. Anyway: Whenever Xigbar said that Xion, looked like "him" he was NOT, I repeat, *NOT* referring to either Sora OR Roxas. Thats very important. Now. Birth By Sleep is the HARDEST. LONGEST. and MOST COMPLEX game in the series. But it answers pretty much ALL THE QUESTIONS you have right now. Story-wise, it's probably the most important game in the series. An important thing to know is the unique concept: As you probably remember, in Chain of memories you got to replay the entire game with Riku after you beat it with Sora. Well in BBS, you get to choose from 3 characters that all have their unique role in the story, and you won't understand ANY of it until you've beaten the game with all 3 of them. Personally, I would recommend you to start with the character you play with at the intro sequence of the game, as their story reveals the, in my eyes, most important parts of the story to know early on. But that's entirely up to you. All characters are equally important to the story. And btw, I do NOT recommend you to complete the game 100%. Because for that, you have to do EVERYTHING with EVERY character, and 90% of the optional stuff is the exact same for all 3 characters. You would even have to defeat the secret bosses 3 times. And this game has the hardest secret bosses in the series. You can 100% one of the characters, there is absolutely no need for all of it. I suppose I cant stop you though if you really want to pull through that. Anyway, its gonna be a while apparently. Good luck once you get to that.

No. i = Xion - x. Also, i is the representation of the root of -1 in math, and is used in equations dealing with "imaginary" numbers, since there is no root of a negative number. It's saying Xion is an imaginary number in the numbered Organization.

Still the most heartwrenching line for me: "Go on, you just keep running! But I'll always be there to bring you back!" He's the last of the trio to fade, and he's also the only one that will actually be able to remember all of this through his entire history through the rest of the series (other than Xion, of course).

I absolutely love the end screen for the game I mean Axel, Roxas, and Xion all enjoying ice cream together as well as Roxas falling out of his Organization XIII coat while wearing his KH II attire.

AND NICO IMPORTANT They didn't mention xion but she had a very very very small cameo in namines room in kh2 cause if I remember she is in between Roxas and axel but I remember being flabbergasted when you didn't ask "WHO IS THAT BETWEEN THEM?"

I got to say, I love the scene where Roxas fights Saix. It brings so much more meaning to when he says "only you could have made it this far Roxas" in KH2. Still don't get why that fight was excluded from the HD cutscenes. Also, now that you have your 3DS capture card I am placing my hopes and bets on Devil Survivor Overclocked. I love almost every SMT game and would love to see you play more than Persona. That being said, a LP of Persona Q would be awesome as well. That game is fantastic and made me fall in love with the Etrian Odyssey series.

30:00 ehhhh yes and no Roxas technically did take Xions keyblade back but not in the way you think you see if i remember correctly... (because i honestly can't remember if this was fan theory or actual canon) Roxas always had the power to use 2 keyblades but he never got to do it because of Xion who was designed to take Roxas' power. Roxas never used 2 keyblades before meeting her because he simply did not know how to because he was like 3 weeks old. So when Xion died Roxas got ALL of his power back from Xion meaning he could now Dual Wield.

29:20 I would just like to comment on this before I continue the video (awesome so far btw), Roxas did NOT take Xion's Keyblade. This is one of the most common misconceptions of the series. Xion's Keyblade was fake; "a sham". Xion's death helped awaken Roxas' power to dual wield. Why does he have this power? I won't answer that yet. Basically, both Sora and Roxas have the power to dual wield but need something to awaken it. For Roxas, it was Xion's death. For Sora, it was the drive forms.

There isn't a clear mention of Xion in KH 2, but there is a drawing in Naminé's room with Roxas and Axel facing two people in hoods. One of them looks like Saix, but the other one doesn't look like anyone else, so people just assume it's supposed to be Xion. After all, Nomura did say in an interview that, ever since KH 2, he had thought about the concept of a girl around Roxas's age befriending him before KH 2 and being one of the reasons he left the Organization.

It's a good thing the fourth wall exists. We have to remember Xion for Roxas and Axel, guys. As long as we keep her alive in our memories, she won't fade away. **sob**

The writers did in fact plan for Xion to show up when making Kingdom Hearts 2 and I can prove it through a major easter egg they left behind for a character that should've been forgotten. If you recall when Sora's memories are being restored in the KH2 prologue, Roxas (who is in the Twilight Town Matrix at that time) sees Sora's memories as they are returned to him though 'dreams'. If you recall in those dreams, any mention or mental image of Kairi seen in those memories are cut out or distorted until Roxas falls off the clock tower, resulting in him having a telepathic conversation with Kairi the moment both Roxas and Sora remember her. This is because the memories Xion carried in 358/2 were the memories Sora has of Kairi, memories that Roxas does not have and cannot give back to Sora. While subtle, the writers and game designers wouldn't have had any reason to cut out Sora's memories of Kairi from Roxas' dream sequences unless they were trying to reference Xion, who held Sora's memories of Kairi. I honestly do believe this is the best nod they could make to her considering nobody can remember who she was.

The scenes where it shows xion slowly being forgotten makes me wanna cry and well as her death😢😢

You only miss something when it's gone. People often complain about how drawn out this game is, but that's the idea. It creates a routine for Roxas and his friends, then shatters it with tragedy. That's why the ending is so emotional.

I stayed up until 4:00 am for this. I am so hyped.

Vector to the Heavens (the song that plays when you fight Xion) is probably one of the best tracks Yoko Shimomura has ever made in my opinion. It's just so good.

There was a reference to Xion in KH2; In Namine's drawings you can see her with Roxas and Axel.

Fun facts about the Xion battle: - Those three devices were put in areas where the worlds' Keyholes were. - The four forms specialize in Sonic Blade, Ragnarok, Ars Arcanum, and Trinity Limit (respectively). - Xion was clad in a special armor - the next KH game Nico plays gives an idea about them.

it was no plot device, it was something of pure genius, in every little conversation we get hints of something entirely unknown already in the series. I mean, xions existence is perpetuated to the purpose of castle oblivion. If you think about it there seemed to be no point for the organization to want to do that, xion is the result.

while, compared to the other entries, 358/2 days has a pretty bland gameplay, i think that it is the most artistic one,the ritualism ,doing the same things day after day , let you feel real empathy with the characters and the events,and roxas is actually an interesting protagonist that start as a zombie an gradually became more human

I know you're well past this game now but to clarify a bit for you numerous characters saw a different face when looking at Xion. Roxas, Axel and Riku see her as the normal Xion that resembles Kairi: Xigbar sees her that one time as Ventus: Xemnas and Roxas before the final battle both saw her as Sora: Saix, and maybe the rest of the organization saw her with her hood up.

Honestly I find this game to be really great. I would love to have a teenage dream drop distance style, though preferably with more voice acting, a couple more scenes, some new/changed missions, and a whole lot of new panels and changes to them to make them more useful/streamlined. Really this game feels like a REALLY rough gem, but secretly a diamond just needing to be uncovered. It has a lot of good features, but ultimately it's held back by to many of them. But if/when they remake it, I hope they'll keep multiplayer and the panels if nothing else. Best features.

While I know Birth by Sleep may sound tempting to play, don't forget about Edgeworth, we need our daily doses of Edgeworth after all. I'm also glad you played this game too while incorporating the HD cutscenes in your videos as well, really well done Nico!

Honestly, i can understand whypeople want nico to chill with Kingdom Hearts, but, look how fast he's blazing through the games. He already got the longest one, KH2 , out of the way. He'll finish BBS and Re:Coded fast, only 2 more, and will likely beat them before December, when 2 .8 comes out, as that's the version nico says he'll play for KH3D and BBS 0.2. You guys will get your KH break in another month or two until december, so, it's not too much longer guys. :)

There are two reasons why reactors do not often cut and break up their episodes: the first is that it takes too much effort. The second is that their viewers prefer seeing full reactions. Straight up, if you post the reaction via Google Drive, you'll be safe from Content ID. Trust me. If you WANT to be SUPER safe, then you can cut the audio and the alter the video in addition to this. My recommendation would be too post short episode reviews with a link too your reaction in the description. Whether you choose too alter the video or not, just make sure that the subtitles are fully visible at all times. This is the easiest way for the viewer to follow along. Also, could be a good idea not too put "Reaction" in the title of the RU-vid video you post. Also, don't use thumbnails capped from the show. Custom thumbnails are safer too use.

Don't worry Nico, Xion isn't just a plot device.(For the most part) We see mention of her in the next games. So look forward to that. She should be in KH3 too. Also, she gets a minor mention in KH2 Final Mix on the cutscene after the Roxas battle, when he is with Axel on the clocktower. Check it out again and you will see what I mean.

For the DR3 reaction, I love your suggestion. Just add a timestamp in the video. Do one video each episode. Don't add ANYTHING about the episode itself (the video, sound, etc.). Your reaction is enough. You can give your thoughs about the episode after you watch it but I suggest not to spoil anything about it just to be on the safe side. You also suggest that you sneak the reaction series right between your 2 LP series. I don't think the video would be an episode long. (5-15 mins.) BTW, my guess about your next LP is either Persona Q or Fire Emblem Awakening :P. I suggest you play 'Rhythm Heaven Megamix'. It's an unorthodox rhythm game and I think you will gonna enjoy it. :)

I think the best way to do DR3 would be to record your reactions (offscreen with the sound from DR3 and maybe a screenshot of the moment). Cut the footage down to around 4/5 mins of the best moments, then do a mini review afterwards. This way you can pause and go off one tangents and get copyright strikes

I've been absolutely loving the Kingdom Hearts series, Nico. But I think it is time for a break. Just for one LP at least. 4 games in a row is a bit much imo. I'm not sure what you could play instead but maybe something on the 3DS capture card? Feel free to disregard this next part if you wish cause I know you've mentioned Persona Q before and that you're burnt out on the P4 characters, which is fair, but I'd still like to request PQ for an LP. I just think it'd be a good refresher for Persona 5 which comes out next year (plus the game shakes things up a little bit in terms of mechanics and does add new characters, plus the music is ballin' as fuck) and if you don't do it before P5 I don't think you ever will XD which I think would be a dang shame. Another alternative could be a Professor Layton game? I'm not entirely sure on the order of the games but once those are done then the Professor Layton and Phoenix Wright crossover would become open to explore. Just my 2 cents, it's not like I wouldn't watch Birth by Sleep if you did go straight into it, I'd most likely still enjoy the fuck out of it like usual XD just feel that after 4 games in a row it deserves a little bit of a rest.

These LPs are the first exposure to the KH series I've had, and it really wouldn't have been the same without you, Nico. :D

There's a really simple trick I've seen many people use to avoid copyright and it's to alter the sound of the episode (for example higher the pitch) and put some kind of filter on it during the editing, so that way you can watch the episode normally and pause it as much as you want without getting into any trouble

Oh Nico, you've single-handedly made Donald my favorite character in the games for your playthroughs. That's amazing. And I'm so glad and proud of you for actually combining the HD and the original. That's amazing and not something I would have expected from a playthrough at all. Only fitting that you take a break now. Even without uploading a playthrough, 358 Days is one KH game that wears you out. It's literally an org.13 job simulator, so vacation is needed. Come back soon with it though, we gotta finish these games before KH2.8 comes back.

In terms of what I think should be done next, I kind of agree with others about taking a bit of a break, but I don't know if it has to be that long. If anything, finish ZTD, then start a new series alongside BBS. Just because I thought it was neat to see 358/2 and ZTD started together like that~.
