In todays video we are going to be talking about basic toilet repair. We have an American Standard VorMax toilet that has been running for a while. We have also had issues with the valve not working correctly. I did the math and we are wasting about 500 gallons of our water each month just on this one toilet alone. So we really needed to fix it.
We not only replaced the gaskets for the VorMax toilet, but we also replaced the fill valve and adjusted the flappers a bit as well. It was a simple process that any diy’er could do. Below are links to all the products we used and some tools that would be helpful!

I'm glad I found this video. Instead of replacing the entire set I'm just going to replace my flappers and keep the kit put up for now 👍

@@LaceyFamilyFarm I already ordered the kit from Lowes, so like I said I'll keep it for back up. My thing is that those flappers are so limber. You can barely touch one and it will bend. Seems like a money racket to me 🤔

My first Vormax worked so well I got 3 more for our lake cottage, upstairs, and back yard cottage. Been 4 years or so and they still work like new. Oh, had to fix the lake cottage one by putting a red and white fishing float on one of the flappers so it would stay up longer.

My first thought was two flappers means twice the amount of problems..

It could. From my understanding this toilet has been here for about 10 years though and this was the first issue

I have the identical toilet and over the past week, I noticed it developed a slow leak and was running intermittently (so-called "ghost flush"). I tried washing the silicon seals on the flapper with soap and water and it helped a bit (does not leak as quickly). I figured, being silicon, it should not really degrade like rubber did on the old toilet I had before I replaced it with this one (the tank eventually cracked on the old toilet), so did not think it should actually be replaced. Oh well, might as well replace the damn thing and see if it works. There is a very nice video on the American Standard site that shows exactly how to replace the flapper on these VorMax toilets.

the fill valve might not be bad...you had already shut the water off..

Yeah it actually was bad, I had to replace that after the fact as well. How did you know? Ha ha

A small plastic bucket, used coffee canister, or trash can comes in handy for catching that water that comes out when you pull that water fill valve.

The little tube doesn’t fill the tank it rinses the toilet, and water isn’t coming in when you pressed on float is because you just turned off the water.

I have same toilet. My problem is it doesnt flush like it did when new I have to hold flush lever down until its all flushed. When new you pushed the lever down and let it go with a nice swirling flush. Called company they said something about priming? Any ideas? Thanks

@@LaceyFamilyFarm I have the parts from American Standard but instructions are ridiculous , have only one toilet scared to not have it working lol if I mess up ..and I am mechanically inclined .its got a 10 yr warranty trying to get whole thing replaced

Yea. If I’m you still have it under warranty then do that for sure. That is easiest. These toilets are not the easiest to work on. It’s not like they used to be. I did find that if you are replacing everything in the tank, it’s not toooo bad. If you need any more help, shoot me an email at laceyfamilyfarms@gmail.com and I would be happy to help however I can

Thank the EPA. Luckily they finally got checked. We had great toilets. Now they try to engineer around a lack of water. I tell people as long as they flush well, hang on to the old toilets.

Informative video, but I don’t know how your toilet even works without the float on the rim valve. You’re allowing the valve to close prematurely and not allowing sufficient water to the rim.
@LaceyFamilyFarm
@LaceyFamilyFarm 2 года назад
I guess I’m confused by your question. The float is on the stand that the filler valve is on. I’m sorry I am not a plumber so I’m a little confused
@mikerodriguez8574
@mikerodriguez8574 Год назад
He is asking about the black sponge you took off. It’s designed to keep the flapper open until the water level drops enough to close. Without the floater it closes prematurely.

that final flush lasted less than 2.5 seconds , there is no way that would even clear a bowl of urine let alone anything else . just call a spade a spade , these toilets are junk
@LaceyFamilyFarm

We haven’t had any issues since we replaced the parts in the toilet. None at all. It’s a fast flush, but because of the two flappers there’s more water in that short flush than normal.
