Thanks for the vid - for all us "unable-to-do-it-yourselfers" - I cleaned the flap, it still whacked back down, so I rolled the chain up another couple of times and it works (I guess the chain was too slack, adding weight to the flap)
We would like you to test our overflow extension tubes and do a video. Manufacture to qualify for a water saver toilet, shortened the overflow tube so they could qualify for saying they have a water saver toilet. Flushing more water one time saves more water.
That replacement flapper is a "universal" one. The trimmed part is where they cut off the part which is used if you don't have those ears on the drain pipe. I haven't read the instructions personally, but it is my understanding that you are supposed to cut that whole back half off when using the modern pegs.
Had to cut a little off the back of the flapper where it rubbed but now it works like a charm!!! No more holding the handle down until if flushes!! Thank you!!!
it actually ended up being something different but your video helped me figure it out by simply showing how things worked. actually fixed my other toilet which was somewhat clogged by watching a video (can't remember whose video) on closet augers. was able to rent one from local tool rental shop for $10. able to fix both in about 10 minutes. thanks for posting these great videos!!! helping us consumers DIY without spending a fortune in plumbing fees!
Thank you! Works like a charm now. We just bought a new stopper today and cleaned the inside, so the slime/goo was not the problem. I had to cut out the entire ring that surrounded the tube as it was just way to snug even after I trimmed it.
replaced the old flapper as it was half gone, ended up having to trim the heck out of the new aftermarket one as it was getting hung up like you showed. Thanks I probably would have went and bought another one

This worked like a charm! I recently had our well upgraded and there was a lot of goop in the tank. Cleaned it all up, fiddled with the length of the chain slightly and voila! Thanks for the advice!
Very helpful! I thought it was the chain being too short, but making it more taught did not solve the issue. My flapper allows water in and trapped it, but allows you to squirt it out. After I drained the water it worked as it is intended. Thank you!
I’m having the same problem, the flapper goes back too soon and I have to hold the handle down. I will clean the flapper just like you did, I hope it works out.
Fine. But what if the flapper is brand new and it continues to stop the water flow as soon as you let go of the handle? That's what's happening to me. I shorten the chain, I make it longer and still the problem
you just need to cut off the extra ring on back of flapper beyond the rabit ears they call it. some toilets need the ears some need the ring that slides down the overflow tube.
I had this same problem turns out on the flapper itself there’s a turn knob on the new ones that says 0-6 min-max. I turned it from 1 up to 5 and now it flushes no problem.
Thank you so very much & how do you keep your tank so white? My tank doesn't have porcelain on the inside & is kind of yellowish brown. I've put bleach in it & nothing whiten it up. It worked for now. It is flushing & I don't have to hold the handle down. May need a new flapper cuz I think a small amount of water is still leaking into the bowl.
The inside of my tank looked horrible and was probably never cleaned and nothing worked until I used IronOut. I probably used about a cup of the powder two times and let it sit over night each time and when you flush it the tank looks almost like new.
Another solution (that worked for me) is that the water pressure coming in to the toilet may be too low. Because there isn't enough water moving fast enough, the flapper doesn't get as buoyant. The years of use are the signs this flapper has done its job and the EASIEST and BEST thing is to replace it. Its given its service worth and some. Just buy a new one, they dont cost that much.

Hmmm interesting, never thought that was the problem, I just made the chain shorter, and modded the handle instead, I knew it was not the handle...come to think about it, replacing the PUMP always comes but never think about the flapper.
Got to have slack in chain, no weight on chain, so flapper will stay up, also high water line, will allow flapper to stay up when flush, this means you won’t have to hold flush handle down till flushes, may have to get different handle also, now I have years of experience of installing toilets , these new ones from factory are designed to save water in countries where water has to be saved ever flush , this is reason they present problems of this sort -1.holding handle down during complete flush --2. Low water line --3. Chain from flapper to handle to tight not allowing flapper to stay up long enough- - 4. Raise water line to high as can without running after tank is filled, - 5. okay now people, you may have to become your own plumber on all this 12-30-20
