Going to non-tourist areas of Japan is like going to Rochester, NY. I recommend going to first and second tier tourist areas on weekdays, then looking for third tier spots on the weekends. In Tokyo, there are some really cool shops that are just off in the middle of nowhere, just for the rich locals. Then just hang out in the weird parks, and tiny strange galleries (that exist so that a local can show off his/her hobby art). There are some tiny shops/galleiries in tokyo that are so unique, its worth a trip to tokyo just for that stop. When friends from abroad turn me down and go to sky tree or sensoji...if thats your plan you dont need my recommendations anymore.

Depends if there are good restaurants there? Japan’s countryside is not like upstate NY. There’s 1000 years of history and a lot of culture, hot springs etc.

Haha! I just started exercise walking a few months ago and I noticed the ladies style is either the skirts or the baggier pants and long shirts with jackets that cover the behind! Or like us older gals , you just wear your regular clothes.. showing tight butts really isn’t a thing here. I have seen a few though..I tied a shirt or jacket around my butt for a long time till I found mens shirts cover the booty better. 😂 The thing I have noticed is there are definite clothes for seasons.. In Australia I wore my capri cropped pants all year but noticed here, when fall hits , just about everyone has the long pants. I felt so under dressed a few times and had to buy more long pants!! Haha the river canals are awesome for exercising around Chuo city! Some lovely spots !

I was enjoying the sunny (although hot) weather until today. Luckily we went to Disneyland yesterday although it was quite hot until later in the afternoon. Today I still managed to visit Akihabara despite the rain. Now off to Osaka tomorrow. Really enjoyed Tokyo and would like to come back one day.

When I was in college in the states, both on the East Coast and West Coast, people DON’T use umbrellas during rainy days. They either walk in the rain, or wear rain jackets. But I did use umbrella in the states and people just stared at me as if I am weird.

I used to walk in the rain with umbrella in my hand! I liked the feeling. Classmates made fun of me, but I still liked it - had a hot drink when studying and felt cozy. Some people, just like the rain.

Yeah it’s weird. Umbrellas are viewed as feminine for some reason here in the US

Oh, I didn't know the see through umbrella was so you could still see and walk ! Haha! I already lost one to the wind! I didn't know the proper use in extreme wind!! But I love those! See, you can always learn something! Thanks John

I didn’t know either when I came here - then I saw a guy riding his bicycle with it like a shield 🛡️ in medieval jousting! He could see through it and he stayed dry! You can also cover more of your body, get under it more as you can see through the top. That’s what many Japanese have told me about these clear umbrellas. Now, I believe its illegal to ride a bicycle with an umbrella is hand (in the city where there’s a lot of traffic) … I don’t think it’s enforced in rural areas with no traffic.

Weather people in Japan are not too great I’m learning. It said it was going to rain my entire trip to my in-laws in Okinawa but it’s rained like twice and the weather thing on tv changes every couple of hours 🫤 I did learn that Tokyo humid is nothing and I currently miss Tokyo weather and cold 😂

I love the culture and it's true that some tourists don't respect anything. Sadly it'll happen there or in whatever country they visit. But the media is blowing it out of proportion (as always). If you get millions of tourists, you will always get some like that. But what's the percentage of those against the well behaved ones? Let's not pretend Japanese do everything right. The "sushi terrorists" were almost all Japanese as far as I know. It's also weirdly common that they don't get up from reserved seats when an elderly or disabled person boards the train-subway.

after the rainy season, but before the cold, what is the best time to visit Japan in 2024? I was thinking the September 22!
@onlyinjapanGO
@onlyinjapanGO Месяц назад
September 5th to October 15th is my favorite time, except when the typhoons hit! 🌀 def leave an extra day open to return as flights have a higher chance of being delayed as a storm passes but it’s impossible to predict until 96 hours out.

Is Aomori cold and dry like Hokkaido during this season? June and July seems to be a low peak season, making prices cheaper, and worth considering as a travel season depending on the part of Japan.

Love your travel and tourism videos of Japan. Your talks on Japanese political, tourism and social issues, not so much. Wish you would concentrate on Japan travel and food. We’ve been to Japan more times than I can count and always looking for more areas and places to see. Japan is not just not Tokyo and the tourism and political issues.

There are sure to be some but it’s something that’s in Japanese only (typically). Reach out to JNTO in your country and ask. They usually have a local phone number. I’ve no idea unless I google it myself.

Any of the hotels around Tokyo Disneyland. The Sheraton has always been a family favorite. Going a little from the center can yield bigger rooms like in Ryogoku.
