Just stumbled upon your video. Great transcription! (did one myself but never finished it, never got the second half right...) Listening to the parts starting 2:30 and 4:33 kinda confirms my own experience so far with TSS that the looped sustains are kinda the weakpoint of the library although I think that putting focus on automating CC1, CC11 and the vibrato can remedy that a bit (especially automating vibrato starting non vib, not sure if you did that). Also for mixing TSS with other libraries I think it helps to blend TSS together with another string library (e.g. Synchron Strings works pretty well I think) which also helps for improving the sustains and experimenting with reverb settings. I think the mix would also benefit from making the harp/piano a bit less dominant and maybe a bit faster tempo but aside from that cool arrangment!
Exactly. Looped sustains are the weak points. Its boardmix give the best sound but I am unable to use it with the whole VSL due to different natural dry/wet ratio. I am thinking MIR pro could fix it completely but VSL's price tag is always a pain.
@@Vangakuz Agreed, board mix has the best sound and for me this mix is the very reason to use TSS and not another chamber string library because of the unique sound of Sound City. If you use an convolution reverb wouldn't you kinda loose that Japanese sound you got TSS for? But sure, the dry/wet ratio isn't easy to handle I guess. For now I personally don't use an convo reverb on TSS and Synchron and only go for an algorithmic reverb for the reverb tail. And also agreed on VSL price tag but if you you plan to get more VSL you could currently get their vouchers and save 25% extra (which I did today and got the new woodwinds and harp)
@@AdulescensFMusic I am a fan of VSL, get full lib of all Synchron String bundle, Brass, Woodwind, Perc 1/2. I tested TSS with EW Space II. Doing so loose some Japanese sound, not too much, but the core sound of TSS is still there for sure. TSS is new and I am doing experiment with it everyday.
@@Vangakuz I "only" got the standard edition from Synchron stuff. Is there a noticable difference between standard and full if you put reverb on it anyway? Which room did you use for TSS in Spaces? Yeah, a lot of great libraries have come out lately, I'm also experimenting every day and it's a lot of fun.
@@AdulescensFMusic Personally if I use convo. reverb, I wouldn't notice the difference or barely. I just feel like it would be more natural to mix by full 10 mics inside Synchron Player to get the most natural sound/reverb first and then apply EW Spaces II if needed. For this one, the preset is Decca Classic with some twists to fit TSS. No conv. reverb in this.
Great arrangement! If I'd have to give some feedback on it, I'd say you should probably have used spiccato on the strings for the most part instead of staccato, at least that's how I feel the sound from the original piece. Also it sounds really dry, perhaps adding a bit more reverb on the strings would make it sound better, but perhaps that was intentional as well to show the full original sound of the strings at most? And last, you can adjust the dynamics on the strings at 2:30 with some automation to make them sound less straightforward and more realistic. With all of these, you can definitely make TSS sound a lot better. Nevertheless, thank you for showcasing this amazing library, specially through a game soundtrack I personally love.
Thank you so much. Been a long time since I had such a constructive feedback. Maybe I was too rush for this. It is definitely going to be better when live on Spotify and others.
Pretty legit transcription, but the balances are bad for me. Kick is too loud and string are weak speaking of their space. In original piece they sound as a huge orchestra and here is like chamber sound. Definitely needs mixing to sound better
