Tokyo Sea Life Park - 2023
One of the most famous aquariums in Japan, where you can see playful penguins and tons of tuna, an underwater living world that we don't have here.
Tokyo Sea Life Park
it was completed in 1989 as a project to mark the 100th anniversary of the Ueno Zoo in 1882. It houses over 600 species of aquatic animals from all over the world. With its distinctive glass dome, 30.7 meters high and seemingly floating above the surrounding Tokyo Bay, it is a landmark for all lovers of the aquatic world. Visitors can enjoy and discover about 600 species of fish and seabirds, as well as a number of innovations rarely found anywhere else. These include a tidal pool, where visitors can touch sea creatures, and one of the largest penguin habitats in Japan.
Tuna - seafarers
The glass dome at Tokyo Sea Life Park was designed by internationally renowned architect Yoshio Taniguchi. The unmistakable structure stands out from a distance, at a height of 30.7 meters above the ground.
Upon entering, visitors can view the park's exhibition exhibit - a 2,200-ton donut-shaped tank, which houses a large school of tuna. But what will really blow your mind is how fast they swim around it in an incredible display of water power. The visually impressive structure replicates the open ocean environment and also contains schools of sardines and hammerhead sharks.
Penguin ecology
The outer area is home to four species of penguins, including Humboldts, Southern Rockies, King Penguins and Fairy Penguins, which can be observed on land and swimming through the water. The site, which includes a wave pool and large rocky mountains, also has other seabirds, such as puffins. Cliffs include nesting holes for breeding.
Tokyo Bay Ecosystem
A trip to this aquarium will be fascinating for any visitor who wants to learn more about the creatures that inhabit the waters of Tokyo Bay. Countless marine life from the subtropical Ogasawara Islands, the Izu Islands and the tidal areas of Tokyo Bay are on display. The bright interior, bathed in natural sunlight, is a great place for visitors to observe the fish up close or to watch the aquarium keepers at work.
Other points of interest
Freshwater creatures that once inhabited the Tokyo area are displayed throughout the park in environments similar to their natural habitats.
Visitors to the Freshwater Life Pavilion can see crucian carp and crucian carp swimming in the "Pond and Wetlands" aquarium, and in the "Mountain Streams" pool you can see trout swimming against strong currents. The aquarium complex is also home to jumping jacks, Japanese lobsters, stingrays, purple sea urchins and plenty of jellyfish.
There are guided tours that explain the creatures based on specific themes, while marine life experts bring the park to life. During staff presentations, breeders describe how the exhibited forms of marine life behave, explain the ecosystem around them and share exciting anecdotes.
