Factz!!!! I love the nfs franchise, but man this game really was the first real street racing game to me. For the time it came out, I didn't really care for the cosmetic modifications, but the gameplay was by far the best!!!!
They need to bring this back. Have updated graphics, cars and mods. The best part of this game was the requirement for each racer was different and this was before the internet was as big as it is now. I remember having to race a certain time of night with certain numbers on your plates if you wanted to race the hidden racers.
i also think that extreme racer drift 2 should be on the list also. not because it derive from the animation called initial d, but because the racing system itself.
Probably the greatest Japanese street racing game of all time. The music, the cars, the options, the opponents, the intensity, the ATMOSPHERE. I've never seen anything that comes close to TXR's atmosphere.
Yup, amazing game, i picked it up for almost nothing 2020 christmas, and it just amazed me entirely. In 2020 i got my ps4 (i'm always far behind trends) and played ton of newer/new games on it, but that ps2 gem ended being my favourite game that I've learned about in 2020 :p Gran Turismo 2 is my all time favourite game, but hell TXR:Z is in my top 10 for sure :p
there's an actual rumor going on the net about genki racing project reinstating a tweet about them remodeling a project for the upcoming TXR series game under the Grand tourismo projects in the next future. go search it up under Tokyo extreme racer franchise game for ps4. you'll find a forums talk in the gtforums about a similar unannounced game in the making. it may linked to a future TXR series game and perhaps a comeback of GRP"genki racing project".
I miss playing this game. Still have my copy but it's packed away with my other PS2 games and hardware. I think this was the first racing game I ever really put a significant amount of time in. I don't remember what made me pick this up but glad I did.
@@critlv972 Nice, I'll look for it right away. I have a TXR2 rom for the Dreamcast. TXR2 is said to be the same game as Zero, just with a different UI. But having played both, I find that hard to believe.
Not only that but you need a car that was capable of reaching 263mph with a good tune so you can extend the gears enough and quick acceleration like either the RX-7, Porsche 930, or the Datsun Z!
wow memories who remembers trying to catch the car and see nothing but the tailights and especially the highway some cars were who really fast I would say I would try to block them that was my specialty haha lol like I said wow memories
I almost want to pull it out of mothballs and replay it. Anyone know if the top speed of the game was around 260 mph. I remember I always went for the Nissan 300zx Twin Turbo (not sure of the game number for it) and could top out around that speed when all parts were made availiable.
Fun Fact, it's a tribute to the MS-06S Zaku II from Mobile Suit Gundam used by Char Aznable. The driver apparently thought it was too much and bought another R34 and simplified what he wanted to do as a tribute, this time styling it after the MS-14 Gelgoog, which Char also piloted in Mobile Suit Gundam.
I still have the game but not the system, someone needs to make an updated version of the game and if it is done right I bet they would not be able to keep it on the shelf

Man this game looks dope, wonder if I should start playing this :D
I don't know, maybe the people who made the game were part-time exhumers? It's still better than the name "Optimum Stone Head", though. I've actually got that as a B.A.D name!
I once got Blitz Gravedigger as a name, whatever the hell that means. Either way, I fucking LOVED this game. I'd probably be playing it right now if my PS2's laser didn't break. :D
There was a way where you could shoot past as you challenged them, that way you could block them. This game had ridiculous rubber banding, but at least the AI's would crash every once in a while for an easy win - even the "boss" cars would.
LOL I loved this game yo...My license plate read "GETSMKD" lol. Makes me want to get a playstation and get this again. But if there's a game like this called Import Tuner Challege on the xbox 360 than I'm gonna have to check that out too...This one was still the shit tho.I liked when your just cruising minding your own business and an asshole comes up behind you and flashes his high beams too and the race is on! Haha racers never die (; Cali Life
I had a friend tune the cars n i raced em... decimated all, but he was always pissed when we would race his cars PvP n lose... told me i wouldnt win if he didnt tune the cars... told him i had to get ahold of the chariot he tuned... not my fault i worked with what i have. Lol good times, regardless. Miss this game.
i have full unlock all those car in my ps2 memory save game and it was over 15 year the game i put in someway at store i had spent too long time for this game maybe over 2 year on and off play
Best racing games came out on ps2. I just don't play them anymore because nothing good has come out. TXR, NFS UNDERGROUND 2, NFS HOT PURSUIT 2 WAS THE BEST. Awesome soundtrack and tracks.
I have to admit, Tokyo Xtreme made that game easy for me. It was like I had been on those roads before so I knew what was next. Just watched the movie, Wangan Midnight. That was a good movie.
Now that was a game! Some time back I played and made it all the way to the end. Those straightaway sections were the most fun at over 200 mph. Wow! Talk about memories. lol. Does anyone here know what was the name of the arcade game that raced these same sections?
It would! Theirs a sequel on 360 called Import Tuner Challenge. But its xbox exclusive. I got it and its pretty much the same game with some map/customization changes.
Nice! This is an amazing game! I also play the original version on the Dreamcast! I wish I could do recording and stuff of this game, but my recording software glitches alot, but I digress, thank god you found another copy of it!
Ohhhh I know of Wangan Midnight, and just recently got a PS3, i'll be ordering it soon, but I just bought Initial D Extreme Stage so it's gonna be a while.
I seem to remember if you timed it right you could flash your lights as you passed to start the race in front. Other than that I liked to swap exits at the last possible second make the ai take the wrong road for an easy win
Nice. wish I had the 360 right now. Nice R34 but if I were u I would the R32 I forget which but it the one in the beginning of the game. It only around 16,000 dollars It not a bad car but it kinda bad on entering corners when u brake. But if u get over 2000 odo miles new engines become available and it can got up to 1079 HP but that only if turn the turbo up. It can go over to 240 mph. but that only if u get the correct transmission settings.
