The lifehack is to be a friend like this to someone and they'll be a friend like this to you. Of course you have to find a worthy friend but the more you put into a friendship the more you get back!
You just know that a gift like that will be treasured for life. I was once gifted a hand forged matched set. Sword and dagger in late 12th early 13th century style. Wide blade with a double fuller (based of an extant find), with a nice broad crossguard and sort of diamond shaped pommel. The perfect length and choppyness for me (I've always favoured front heavy swords). And the dagger is a phenomenal fast fighting knife with a blade longer than you would think at first glance. Every sword I owned before and since that got a nickname. That sword was just 'my sword'. Or 'the F Type' (the pommel type) if I needed to describe it to someone who didn't know its importance to me. I've been out of reenactment/HEMA for a few years, and that relationship is long gone. But I still adore that sword, and keep it close. Moral of the story: Ladies and gents, give the people you want to be happy custom swords. :P
